Chapter 106 Huo Jing's Questioning

Chapter 106 Huo Jing's Questioning

Moonlight Island was the location of their honeymoon in their previous life, and Ruan Yao agreed almost without hesitation.

Her mind was uncontrollably filled with the memory of that terrible honeymoon from her past life.

The continuous torrential rain trapped them in the villa, leaving them nowhere to go.

Moonlight Island seemed to be incompatible with her; wherever she went, she would get injured unexpectedly, leaving her in a terrible mood.

Huo Yanzhi was so nervous that he called over almost every doctor on the island.

But at that time, she only felt alienation and wariness. She felt that his fuss was a kind of annoying surveillance, and she blamed all her bad luck on the man beside her.

But now, everything is different.

The suggestion that she once avoided at all costs has now become a tempting offer wrapped in honey.

nothing.

She thought.

They want to completely cover up those moldy, thorny old memories with brand new, sweet experiences.

In this life, she wants to create the most beautiful memories that belong only to her and her lover on Moonlight Island.

The night before their departure, the Huo family held a family dinner at their old residence, which served as a prelude to the young couple's trip.

The warm lighting on the long dining table cast a soft glow on everyone's faces.

"Eat more of this. You've lost weight lately because you've been busy with the project." Ye Mei lovingly placed a piece of Ruan Yao's favorite dish on her plate.

"I'm not thin, Mom. Yanzhi has almost fattened me up." Ruan Yao complained, but her eyes crinkled, and her little face was full of unconcealed happiness.

Sitting next to her, Huo Yanzhi naturally picked up a tissue and wiped away a bit of sauce that had accidentally gotten on her lips, his movements practiced and intimate.

Ruan Yao's cheeks flushed slightly, and she quietly nudged his calf with her toe under the table.

This scene brought smiles of satisfaction to the faces of the Huo family elders.

“Look at the two of them,” Ye Mei nudged her husband Huo Wenbo’s arm, her face full of a contented smile, “They’re so loving.”

Huo Wenbo nodded, a hint of gentleness appearing on his usually serious face.

Only Huo Jing, holding a glass of red wine, leaned back elegantly in her chair, seemingly enjoying the wine, but her peripheral vision was always calmly observing Huo Yanzhi across from her.

She looked at Ruan Yao's complete and unguarded trust in Huo Yanzhi, and then at Huo Yanzhi's imperfectly gentle mask, and her brows furrowed imperceptibly.

After the dinner, everyone chatted in small groups in the living room.

Huo Yanzhi was whispering something to Ruan Yao, which made the girl's eyes crinkle with laughter.

"Yanzhi, come to the study with me." Huo Jing walked over with a coffee cup in her hand. "There are a few things I'd like to confirm with you regarding the budget for Lexing Island next quarter."

Huo Yanzhi raised his head, patted Ruan Yao's hand reassuringly, and then stood up.

Ruan Yao considerately let go of his hand and smiled at him: "You go ahead, I'll chat with my mother and the others for a while."

"Okay, wait for me." Huo Yanzhi bent down, then turned around and followed Huo Jing upstairs to the second floor.

The heavy wooden door to the study slammed shut, shutting out all the warm and lively sounds downstairs.

Huo Jing didn't beat around the bush. She went behind the desk, turned on the tablet, and turned the screen towards Huo Yanzhi.

"Behind Tianhong Capital is an offshore fund controlled by you. This investment was authorized by you."

Her tone was not a question, but a statement.

On the screen is a clear equity penetration chart, with complex lines ultimately pointing to the assets under Huo Yanzhi's name.

Huo Yanzhi leaned against the bookshelf, his hands in his pockets, looking at her indifferently, neither admitting nor denying.

Huo Jing was not surprised by his reaction.

She crossed her arms and continued speaking.

"And then there's Lu Zeyuan. A young man whom Ruan Yao herself admitted was very capable, and he was 'promoted exceptionally' and assigned to a new company in Shanghai. This, too, must have been your doing?"

Huo Yanzhi finally reacted.

He raised his head, and the face that was always gentle in front of Ruan Yao now only showed a distant indifference.

"Auntie, you're interfering too much."

"Me, meddling too much?" Huo Jing seemed to laugh in exasperation. "Huo Yanzhi, I watched you grow up. I worry about you."

She took a step forward, her voice revealing a suppressed anger.

"Why are you 'helping' her in this way? The investment is fake, the new colleague was arranged by you, and you even control who works around her! What exactly are you doing?"

"Aunt, thank you for your concern." Huo Yanzhi's voice was devoid of any emotion. "But I will handle the matter between Yaoyao and me myself."

After saying that, he glanced at his watch. "It's getting late, Yaoyao must be sleepy. I need to take her home."

As he spoke, he turned to leave.

"Huo Yanzhi." Huo Jing called out to him from behind, her voice revealing a weariness and worry that she herself was unaware of.

Huo Yanzhi stopped walking, but did not turn around.

“I originally thought that Ruan Yao was your cure, someone who could pull you out of the shadows of the past.”

Huo Jing's voice echoed in the empty study.

“But now I realize I was wrong. Your behavior is more paranoid and dangerous than before. You're protecting her in a sealed glass dome that you built yourself, clipping all her wings that could reach the outside world. Do you think that's love?”

"Have you considered what the consequences would be if she discovered the truth, if she knew that her life was all part of a script you orchestrated? You have to consider her feelings."

"This kind of control that is kept in the dark is not love, it's a cage."

"It will destroy everything sooner or later, destroy her, and destroy yourself!"

Huo Yanzhi gripped the doorknob so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

A long silence fell over the study.

In the end, he didn't say a word, but simply opened the door and walked out.

The corridor lights poured down, illuminating the gloom on his face.

However, when he reached the stairwell and saw that figure, all the coldness and hostility on his face vanished in an instant.

Ruan Yao was chatting happily with Ye Mei when she saw him come down and immediately went to greet him.

"Are you done talking? What did your aunt say to you?" She naturally took his arm and looked up at him with concern.

"nothing."

Huo Yanzhi raised his hand and affectionately tidied the stray hairs on her forehead, perfectly concealing all the undercurrents beneath his deep eyes.

"We talked about company matters, which took up a little time."

He smiled and extended his hand to her, palm up.

"Yaoyao, let's go home."

He said softly.

"Ready to depart."

"Um!"

Ruan Yao was completely unaware of what had just happened upstairs. She happily placed her hand in his broad palm, letting him wrap and hold her fingers one by one.

Their fingers were intertwined.

Upstairs, Huo Jing stood at the door of the study, watching the intimate couple about to leave downstairs, a deep worry in her eyes.
