Chapter 121 Distrust
The next morning, Ruan Yao woke up amidst waves of soreness and discomfort.
The light streaming through the curtains was bright. She moved and felt as if her body had been disassembled and reassembled, with a ache emanating from every bone.
Thankfully, today is Saturday.
As she was thinking this, she propped herself up on her arms and tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through her lower back that made her gasp.
The seat next to me was empty, but it still retained some warmth.
A faint sound came from downstairs.
Ruan Yao, supporting her lower back, put on a silk robe and slowly walked downstairs.
Huo Yanzhi was wearing an apron and standing in the open kitchen.
He had changed into comfortable loungewear, his hair was still slightly damp, and he smelled fresh after his shower, showing no signs of being drunk the night before.
Warm milk, freshly toasted bread, and a beautiful sunny-side-up egg were already laid out on the table.
Hearing footsteps, he turned around, his eyes revealing clear weariness and self-reproach.
"Awake?" He walked over and naturally put his arm around her waist. "Did I disturb you?"
"No." Ruan Yao shook her head, leaned against him, and complained softly, "My back is so sore..."
Huo Yanzhi paused for a moment.
"I'm sorry." His voice was low and full of apology. "I drank too much last night, did I hurt you?"
He helped Ruan Yao sit down at the dining table, then went around behind her and gently massaged her sore waist through her thin nightgown.
His actions were completely different from his roughness last night; his palms were warm, his strength was moderate, and he was trying to please her with a careful and ingratiating manner.
The familiar apology, exactly the same as last time.
An impeccable attitude and a sincere apology.
Ruan Yao groaned comfortably as he pressed her down, and the awkwardness in her heart had long since vanished.
She turned her head, looked up at him, and said with a hint of reproach, "Your alcohol tolerance is too low. It's only been twice, and you're already this drunk every time."
"It was my fault," Huo Yanzhi admitted readily. "It won't happen again."
Ruan Yao seemed to have thought of something, and her eyes lit up.
"Wait for me!"
She ran upstairs and quickly ran back down, carrying a small bag of colorful things.
Ruan Yao presented the package to Huo Yanzhi as if it were a treasure.
"Ta-da! Hangover candy!" She proudly raised her chin. "I bought these especially after last time. They come in several flavors. If you're out socializing, just eat one afterward, and you won't get so drunk."
As Ruan Yao spoke, she peeled a citrus fruit and popped it into his mouth; it tasted sweet and tangerine.
"You're always drinking so much, aren't you going to ruin your health? Getting drunk is so bad for your liver, what if you get into an accident while you're out drunk..."
The more she talked, the more worried she became, and she started planning to buy some liver-protecting supplements and make sure he ate them every day.
She was filled with worry for him and didn't mention at all how badly she had been tormented last night.
Huo Yanzhi held the bag of candy, his palms burning slightly.
Huo Yanzhi had the candy in his mouth, looking at the girl's face, which was furrowed with worry for his health, and the sweetness spread from the tip of his tongue to his heart.
A dark corner in my heart was completely filled by this warm light.
He bent down and pulled the girl into a tight, forceful embrace, resting his chin on the crook of her neck and taking a deep breath.
"Wife, you are so good."
Ruan Yao froze.
This long-lost title, which she had heard countless times in her past life but felt completely foreign in this one, suddenly and unexpectedly entered her ears.
Her heart skipped a beat, and her eyes inexplicably welled up with tears.
She hugged him back, pressing her cheek against his warm chest, listening to his steady and powerful heartbeat.
"Of course I'll be good to you." Her voice was thick with a nasal tone. "I'll always be good to you from now on."
Huo Yanzhi tightened his grip on her, and the storm of jealousy raging in his heart found a morbid peace in his complete acceptance and unconditional love.
And so, he kept her by his side.
lifetime.

In the afternoon, Ruan Yao went shopping with Jiang Tangtang as promised.
The moment the two met, Jiang Tangtang gave her a bear hug full of resentment, almost choking her to death.
"Ruan Yaoyao! You've finally shown up! Do you know how many times I've called you! I've practically bombarded your WeChat with calls! I thought you'd been kidnapped by President Huo and sold off to some deserted island!"
"Okay, okay, I was wrong," Ruan Yao pleaded with a smile. "It's my treat today, you can eat whatever you want, okay?"
"That's more like it." Jiang Tangtang finally let go of her, her gaze falling on her as she looked her up and down critically.
When she saw the familiar watch on Ruan Yao's wrist, she rolled her eyes.
"Seriously, Miss? You're still wearing that?" Jiang Tangtang pointed at the watch. "Isn't this just a high-end tracker? Didn't President Huo give you an explanation?"
“Yanzhi said it was for my safety,” Ruan Yao brought up Huo Yanzhi’s reasoning. “You know he always worries unnecessarily.”
After hearing this, Jiang Tangtang gave her a "you're kidding me" look and pouted, but seeing Ruan Yao's calm expression, she didn't say anything more.
The two had a great time shopping in the mall, and soon they were carrying lots of bags and packages.
Stepping into the VIP fitting room of a high-end women's clothing store, Ruan Yao took off her clothes and prepared to change into a slip dress she had just picked out.
"Yaoyao, help me with that..." Jiang Tangtang poked half her head out from next door, but stopped mid-sentence.
Her gaze lingered on Ruan Yao's smooth back and slender neck.
There, the area was covered with scattered red marks, some even tinged with purplish-blue, both ambiguous and glaring.
"Holy crap!" Jiang Tangtang's voice changed. "Huo Yanzhi... he has violent tendencies?"
"Oh dear!" Ruan Yao's face flushed bright red instantly, and she quickly covered it with her hands. "What nonsense are you talking about!"
She frantically tried to put on her clothes, but Jiang Tangtang held her down firmly.
"So what's going on?"
Ruan Yao's face flushed bright red instantly. She frantically tried to cover herself with her clothes, stammering, "No...it's not what you think! It's...he was drunk last night and lost control..."
After hearing this, Jiang Tangtang crossed her arms and looked her up and down, her speechless expression deepening.
She remembered the "poor signal" on Moonlight Island, and then connected it to the watch with a locator on her wrist.
Jiang Tangtang clicked her tongue and spoke half-jokingly and half-seriously.
She suddenly looked at her best friend speechlessly and spoke half-jokingly and half-seriously.
"Isn't your CEO Huo a little too possessive? Be careful, or he might treat you like a caged canary."
Ruan Yao explained in a barely audible voice, "He's not that kind of person."
Jiang Tangtang raised an eyebrow, then touched her chin with some confusion. "Then why did he install a GPS tracker on you? He doesn't seem to trust you very much."
Ruan Yao instinctively wanted to refute.
She knew in her heart that Huo Yanzhi simply loved her too much and was too afraid of losing her.
However, Jiang Tangtang's words, "I don't trust you," were like a tiny thorn that gently pierced her heart.
Why?
They are already husband and wife, and she loves him with all her passion, so why is he still so insecure?
Ruan Yao's defense weakened.
Her mind was filled with uncontrollable flashbacks of his almost frenzied plundering last night, and his obsessive questioning over and over again, right next to her ear.
She lowered her eyes and looked at the exquisitely crafted and valuable watch on her wrist.
The dial reflects a cold light under the lamp, like a magnificent shackle that can never be broken.
Does he... not trust her?
