Chapter 53 Out of Control

Chapter 53 Out of Control

The door clicked shut.

Ruan Yao remained leaning against the wall, her back pressed against the cold surface.

The audacity that had arisen from the alcohol just now deflated instantly, like a punctured balloon.

Did she... go too far?

Did you scare him away?

Ruan Yao bit her lip in annoyance.

She just wanted him to admit it, to say something, but it seemed she had pushed him to the edge of a cliff.

Ruan Yao slowly moved back to the bedside, threw herself into the soft quilt, and covered her head with a pillow.

Just when she thought everything tonight would end in this farce, the door opened again.

Ruan Yao suddenly lifted her head from under the covers.

Huo Yanzhi returned, carrying a cup of warm honey water.

He had completely reined in his loss of control and returned to his polite, composed, and aloof demeanor.

It was as if the man who had just pinned her against the wall, his eyes swirling with a terrifying storm, was just a figment of her imagination.

He walked to the bedside and handed her the cup.

"Drinking some honey water will make you feel better."

Ruan Yao stared blankly at him, then at the glass of water, her mind going blank for a few seconds.

She didn't take the cup, but the slight disappointment she felt because of his departure was replaced by a more complex emotion.

It was both sour and bloated, with a hint of sweetness.

He was clearly driven away by her.

But he still couldn't rest easy about her.

With the alcohol emboldening her, Ruan Yao reached out her hand to him, her voice so soft it could melt your heart.

"My wrist hurts, I can't lift it."

She proudly displayed the red mark he had just scratched in front of her, like a little animal tattled.

Huo Yanzhi paused for a moment.

He said nothing, but simply sat down on the edge of the bed, holding a cup in one hand and supporting the back of her neck with the other, bringing the rim of the cup to her lips.

The warm honey water slid down her throat, dispelling some of the effects of the alcohol and soothing her stomach.

Ruan Yao sipped her drink slowly, but her gaze remained fixed on his face.

How did you know... I crave this when I'm drunk?

Huo Yanzhi's gaze slid across her face and landed on her lips, which were even fuller and redder from being moistened by the water.

The girl's lips were moist and full, slightly pouting as she drank water, pressed tightly against the rim of the glass.

With each swallow, her moist lips would gently open and close, glistening with moisture, like a silent invitation.

His Adam's apple swayed almost imperceptibly.

"Many people are like that."

After he finished speaking, his tone returned to normal.

"Go to sleep. I'll leave once you're asleep."

Ruan Yao sipped the water slowly, and the glass was soon empty.

After finishing her drink, she hugged the blanket and lay back down on the soft bed, covering herself with the blanket.

Huo Yanzhi stood up, placed the cup on the table, and then walked to the single sofa at the other end of the room and sat down.

That spot was far from the bed.

Ruan Yao was unhappy.

She pulled the blanket up to her chin, revealing only her wet eyes, and looked at him with dissatisfaction.

Why are you sitting so far away?

Huo Yanzhi looked at her without saying a word.

"I can't see you," she added, her voice nasal and sounding extremely aggrieved. "What if you sneak away while I'm still awake?"

The man remained silent for a moment, seemingly assessing the veracity of her words.

In the end, he stood up.

Ruan Yao's eyes lit up when she thought he would sit on the edge of the bed.

As a result, Huo Yanzhi simply moved a chair and placed it somewhere not too far from the bed, then sat down again.

Although there is still some distance, it is much better than before.

Ruan Yao chuckled to herself, not daring to make any more demands. She knew this was his biggest compromise.

She's actually not a very brave person.

In her past life, Huo Yanzhi was powerful, cold, and obsessive. She didn't even have the courage to speak loudly in front of him, and was always like a frightened bird.

But in this life, it was his repeated concessions and indulgences that spoiled her and made her arrogant, allowing her to repeatedly cross his bottom line.

Ruan Yao turned to face him and stared at Huo Yanzhi.

Huo Yanzhi stood right in front of her, his posture upright, like a silent sculpture.

The room was quiet, with only the soft sound of each other's breathing.

Ruan Yao looked at him, secretly making plans.

He said he would leave after she fell asleep.

Then she won't sleep.

She just kept watching him until dawn.

But my eyelids grew heavier and heavier. The honey water warmed my stomach, but it also brought on a deep sense of drowsiness.

Her consciousness was fading, but she forced herself to stay awake, unwilling to close her eyes.

Before she fell completely asleep, she reached out and, from a short distance, gently and tentatively hooked her hand onto the cuff of his suit jacket.

The fabric feels very realistic.

"Huo Yanzhi..." she mumbled indistinctly, "You're such a strange person..."

"Sometimes they're so nice to me, and other times they're so distant."

"You've confused me..."

After saying the last sentence, she finally succumbed to sleepiness and drifted off to sleep.

The fingers hooked around his sleeve didn't loosen; instead, they unconsciously tightened a little.

The room fell completely silent.

All that could be heard was the girl's soft, even breathing.

Huo Yanzhi sat by the bed for a long time, so long that he felt the heat in his body had completely subsided, leaving only a cold exhaustion.

He slowly turned around and looked at the bed.

Ruan Yao was already fast asleep.

She lay on her side, holding a pillow in her arms, her sleeping face peaceful and docile, her long eyelashes casting a quiet shadow under her eyes.

Their unguarded and innocent demeanor softens your heart, yet also makes you ruthless.

She was completely different from the little vixen he had just seen, with her dreamy eyes, bold and alluring.

Huo Yanzhi slowly, little by little, bent down.

He didn't turn on the lights; the only light coming into the room was the colorful neon lights of the city outside the window.

The light was dim, but it was enough for him to see every inch of her outline.

His gaze traced her peaceful sleeping face inch by inch.

From her smooth forehead to the tip of her delicate nose, and finally, his gaze settled on those luscious lips that made him lose control.

Reason told him that he should leave.

He had fulfilled his promise and stayed with her until she fell asleep.

He should leave this place immediately, as far away as possible from this girl who can so easily disturb his mind and make him unlike himself.

However, his feet felt like they were filled with lead, and he couldn't move an inch.

Huo Yanzhi's Adam's apple bobbed very slowly.

He reached out and gently stroked her cheek.

His fingertips slid from her long eyelashes to her glistening lips.

The sweet aroma of the "honey" from the previous cup still lingered on it.

I want to kiss her.

This idea spread like wildly growing vines.

I wanted to tear that annoying dress off her body, to possess her fiercely, and to hear her cry and beg for mercy beneath me.

In the darkness, in those deep black eyes, all the forcibly suppressed, dark, morbid, and obsessive possessiveness raged and surged like a ferocious beast breaking free of its cage.

He slowly, very slowly lowered his head and moved closer to those alluring red lips.

He pried open her lips and teeth, greedily sucking the sweetness between them, while his other hand ran through her hair, cupping the back of her head and deepening the kiss.

His palm, through the soft fabric of her dress, rested on her slender waist, feeling its softness and warmth.

Pain and desire tore at his body like two forces.

It was as if only in this way could he confirm that she truly existed, that she was alive and well in his world, in his arms.

"Slender and graceful..."

His hot breath, leaking from between his lips and teeth, sprayed onto her face, his voice hoarse beyond recognition.

Why do you want to change?

Why do you keep getting closer to me?

He was prepared to be strangers to her in this lifetime.

He was even prepared to watch her marry someone else from the shadows, remaining a stranger who would witness her happiness for the rest of her life.

But she was like a ball of fire, barging into his world without warning and disrupting all his plans.

He dared not believe it, nor did he dare to accept it.

He feared this was the beginning of yet another ill-fated relationship.

Huo Yanzhi rubbed her soft lips as if punishing her. Ruan Yao, still asleep, seemed to sense something, frowned uneasily, and let out a soft whimper.

Huo Yanzhi abruptly stopped.

He looked up.

Looking at her lips, which were becoming increasingly swollen from being kissed, his dark eyes surged with intense desire and painful struggle.

What did he do?

A strong sense of self-loathing and regret instantly overwhelmed him.

He lost control again.

He's always like this; whenever something involves her, he's easily swayed by all his emotions, turning into a madman who even he doesn't recognize.

In the past life, it was; in this life, it is still.

He simply couldn't control the inherent flaws in his nature.

Huo Yanzhi slowly straightened up, the madness and desire in his eyes being gradually suppressed back into the abyss.

He pulled the blanket up for her and put her little hand back in.

Then, he stood up, walked to the sofa, and picked up his suit jacket.

The man put his coat back on and straightened his shirt cuffs, as if the out-of-control beast from before was just an illusion.

After glancing at the person on the bed one last time, Huo Yanzhi turned around, opened the door without looking back, and walked out.
