Chapter 8: She was there for Huo Jing.

Chapter 8: She was there for Huo Jing.

Ruan Sheng became even more curious, "Submit your resume? Which company?"

"Happy Star Island".

Ruan Sheng paused, his hand on the steering wheel, and turned his head to look at her with an extremely strange expression.

"Lexing Island? Isn't that a cultural and entertainment company under the Huo family? I remember the person in charge is Huo Jing, Huo Yanzhi's aunt."

He laughed teasingly, "Seriously? You're chasing after someone all the way to their aunt's house?"

Ruan Yao's cheeks flushed slightly. "I studied design in college, and that company has been expanding into the field of trendy art toys in the past two years, which I find very interesting."

She paused, then added, "I'm serious about wanting to work at Happy Island."

On one hand, she was indeed after Huo Yanzhi.

She and Huo Yanzhi have no interaction now, so she can only actively create interaction.

But on the other hand, she was there for Huo Jing.

Ruan Sheng neither agreed nor disagreed with her explanation. After thinking about it, he was not optimistic about the matter.

There is a general lack of optimism from all sides.

In recent years, Lexing Island has been growing rapidly, rising to the top three in this field in China. Although it seems lively, in reality, compared to the money-devouring beast that is Huo's family, Lexing Island is the least profitable.

That industry is murky and hasn't really taken off yet. You can't make much money even after working hard for a few years. Huo Jing's presence there is just a trial run in a blue ocean market. It's called the Huo family business, but it's actually quite peripheral.

Moreover, Huo Jing is a well-known iron lady in the industry, with a very tough hand.

The people under her command were either long-time employees or elites recruited from the industry. Her sister, a recent graduate, was simply not worthy of that female tyrant's attention.

I reckon my resume will be rejected by HR in the first round after I submit it.

Looking into his sister's clear eyes, Ruan Sheng ultimately refrained from uttering those hurtful words.

Well, I'm a recent graduate, so encountering setbacks in the workplace is inevitable.

The car quickly arrived at the Ruan family's company building.

Ruan Sheng unbuckled his seatbelt. "I have things to do upstairs. Are you sure you can manage on your own? Do you remember where my cousin's office is?"

“No need, I remember,” Ruan Yao said, placing her hand on the car door but not opening it immediately.

She seemed hesitant to speak.

"Brother, what do you think of... how is our cousin performing at the company?"

Upon hearing this, Ruan Sheng curled his lip, looking disgusted.

"He's all talk and no action, and loves to show off. But thankfully, his current position looks prestigious, but he doesn't have much real power, so he won't cause any major trouble."

He looked at his sister, somewhat curious, "Why are you suddenly concerned about this?"

Ruan Yao lowered her eyes and tightened her grip on the umbrella handle she was holding.

“I just feel that my cousin’s character isn’t very good.” She raised her head and looked directly into Ruan Sheng’s eyes. “I’m afraid he might do something… to harm our family in the future.”

Ruan Sheng's nonchalant expression softened somewhat.

He glanced around and lowered his voice, "It's fine to say this to your brother, but don't go and say it to Mom and Dad, especially Mom. She'll be heartbroken if she hears it."

“I know,” Ruan Yao replied softly.

"Alright, go ahead." Ruan Sheng waved to her.

Ruan Yao bid farewell to Ruan Sheng and walked alone towards Su Mingyuan's department.

The receptionist and the staff along the way all stopped and greeted her respectfully when they saw her.

"Hello, Miss Ruan."

Ruan Yao smiled and nodded in response, then walked familiarly toward the department where Su Mingyuan was located.

She remembered that Su Mingyuan's office was at the end of the corridor, in a corner of the marketing department.

A position with little real power, but easy and lucrative.

Before I even reached the door, I could hear a man's raised, impatient voice scolding me from inside.

"Lin Weiwei, is this the proposal you came up with? You actually dared to submit something like this?"

"Regarding the innovative aspects of the theme park collaboration, didn't I already give you some direction during the last meeting? Why didn't you use it? Why do you insist on using your own preconceived ideas?"

"You're a newbie, your basics aren't even solid, and you're always thinking about doing fancy stuff. I put you on this project to give you an opportunity, but you can't be this irresponsible!"

Ruan Yao stopped in her tracks, but did not knock on the door.

She pressed herself against the door, listening quietly.

In the office, a somewhat tired female voice rang out softly.

It's Lin Weiwei.

"Manager Su, the core innovation of this plan is based on the market research we conducted last week. The data shows that young consumers nowadays prefer traditional Chinese designs, so I boldly added ink painting elements..."

“Data, data, all you know is data!” Su Mingyuan’s voice interrupted her. “Data is inanimate, people are alive! Do you know how difficult that client is? If I hadn’t smoothed things over beforehand, you wouldn’t even have had a chance to meet him!”

"I'm being so strict with you because it's for your own good. I want you to hone your skills so that you can stand on your own in the future."

Su Mingyuan's voice softened, adopting the tone of a benefactor.

“Take this new project as an example. If I hadn’t turned the tide at the last minute, would the information you compiled have been enough to impress the client? All you did was the hard work of compiling information. The real core decisions still had to be made by me.”

Ruan Yao's fingers, hanging at her sides, slowly curled up.

This project.

She remembered.

In his past life, it was because of the success of this project that his father publicly praised Su Mingyuan for the first time at the board meeting, believing that he had finally grown up and was no longer the naive boy who only knew how to use clever tricks.

Because of the "success" of this project, Su Mingyuan was promoted to deputy manager of the project department, which gave him his first exposure to the company's core business and paved the way for him to later steal technology and sign guarantee contracts.

It turns out that his so-called achievements and growth were all stolen.

It was stolen from Lin Weiwei.

With a loud bang, the sound of a stack of documents being slammed onto the table came from inside.

"Alright, stop explaining. According to your new approach, you must work overtime tonight to finish revising it and hand it in to me."

The sound of a chair being pulled out came from inside the door, followed by a series of suppressed footsteps.

The door handle turns.

Just as the door was about to be pulled open from the inside, Ruan Yao raised her hand, a pure and innocent smile on her face, and gently pushed the door open before the person inside could.

The door was pushed open, revealing Lin Weiwei's face, which was filled with exhaustion and stubbornness.

She was holding a thick stack of documents in her arms, and when she saw Ruan Yao suddenly appear, she was clearly stunned.

Ruan Yao's gaze passed over her and fell on the man behind the desk who was about to explode in anger. Her voice was soft and sweet.

"cousin."

Su Mingyuan was about to fly into a rage because someone had barged in without knocking, but the moment he saw it was Ruan Yao, his impatience and anger instantly transformed into a delighted and ingratiating expression, much like a Sichuan opera face-changing act.

"Yaoyao?"

He quickly stood up from his office chair and strode around the desk.

"Oh my, what brings you here today? Why didn't you tell me you were coming? Your cousin could have come downstairs to pick you up."
