Chapter 117 Kneeling in Gratitude

"Could it be that they've attacked something big again?!"

The onlookers chattered amongst themselves, their eyes glued to the sack after sack of goods.

These people carried bag after bag, and everyone couldn't resist their curiosity and followed them to the production brigade.

"Quickly, put them all over here!" Village Chief Lü directed in the production brigade's courtyard. Someone curiously stepped forward and asked, "Village Chief, what are all these things?"

"I'll announce it over the loudspeaker later. You should all go back now, so as not to delay people from putting their things away!"

Village Chief Lü was extremely busy and only gave those people a few perfunctory replies.

Seeing this, everyone was even more curious, but they didn't dare to ask any more questions and could only stand at the door and wait anxiously.

Lin Chaosheng weighed and registered bag after bag at the cave entrance. The more he registered, the happier he became, because this was only 20% of the stolen goods and it already amounted to so much. What about the 80% and all the gold and silver treasures he had left in the warehouse...?

He was secretly overjoyed, but dared not show it, and could only speed up his movements to hide it.

Lin Shansheng was already exhausted, but seeing his brother working so hard, he dared not slack off.

But she couldn't hold on any longer and whispered in Lin Chaosheng's ear, "Brother, I really can't go on..."

Lin Chaosheng looked at Lin Shansheng, who was panting heavily, and said, "Then you should go and rest for a while. I'll take care of it."

He then merged the two weighing lines into one, and then worked like he was on steroids.

Lin Shansheng truly admired his brother from the bottom of his heart, but he was so dizzy from all those numbers that he sat there looking at Lin Chaosheng with a guilty expression.

Soon, Lin Chaosheng finished registering all the grain, and together with Lin Shansheng, they carried the scales down the mountain.

The crowd at the entrance of the production brigade was growing larger and larger. There were only a few people at first, but as they carried more and more things, everyone hurriedly ran to notify their relatives and friends to come and watch.

Every newcomer was so frightened that they couldn't speak, and then stood there dumbfounded watching the endless sacks that the other people were carrying.

Finally, after the last bag was placed on the ground, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, as if they were the ones who had carried all the things down.

After the village chief checked all the items, he went to the broadcasting room to announce: "Please send one person from each household to assemble at the entrance of the production brigade!"

Upon hearing the announcement, the impatient people waiting at the entrance rushed to the brigade's gate like a swarm of bees.

"What is it, village chief?"

"Is it another big bear?"

"It doesn't look like it to me. Could it be some gold or silver treasure?"

"Damn, gold and silver treasures? What the hell am I doing here?"

"Yeah, who cares about this stuff? I'm starving to death, why would I want gold and silver?"

"Maybe I should wait until my next life to get this thing."

Some people guessed it was gold and silver treasures, and everyone burst into laughter upon hearing this.

"Quiet down, quiet down, everyone!" Village Chief Lü immediately tried to maintain order after hearing everyone's random speculations and commotion.

The commotion in the crowd subsided somewhat, and everyone waited for Village Chief Lü to speak.

Seeing that not many people continued to complain, Village Chief Lü cleared his throat: "Isn't everyone curious about what's in the sack?"

He surveyed everyone's expectant gazes and continued, "This is full of all kinds of coarse and refined grains."

As soon as he finished speaking, everyone got excited, thinking that Village Chief Lü was joking with them.

"Coarse grains and refined grains? Village Chief Lü, you're not trying to fool us!"

"Yeah, how come there are coarse and refined grains in this cave?"

"If this really is a mix of coarse and refined grains, then everyone in our village will be able to eat their fill!"

Everyone became skeptical. They couldn't believe that there could be so much coarse and fine grain stored in the cave. It was more mythical than a myth!

Seeing that no one believed him, Village Chief Lü carried down a bag, opened it, and showed it to everyone. "Take a good look, is this gold and silver treasure or coarse and fine grains?"

Unconvinced, everyone crowded around, only to gasp in shock.

"Holy crap! It's a mix of whole grains and refined grains!"

"This white flour is fucking mouthwatering!"

"Holy crap, we're really saved!"

"From today onwards, no one in our village will starve to death, right?"

Everyone was talking at once, their faces filled with barely suppressed excitement and joy.

"We'll distribute the grain to each family in a little while. Everyone, please line up first. When your name is called, come to the front to get your grain." Village Chief Lü asked for the list and prepared to start calling out names.

"Village chief, how is this grain distributed?" someone asked.

"Yeah, yeah, how do we divide all this mess?"

When Village Chief Lü saw that everyone had questions, he calculated the total amount of grain and quickly explained, "We plan to distribute it per person. Fine sorghum will be two jin per person, and coarse grain will be five jin per person."

"The village chief is wise!" everyone shouted happily. Everyone got so much food, and now they no longer had to worry about going hungry!

So everyone quickly and neatly lined up, waiting quietly for Village Chief Lü to call their names.

Everyone who received the grain almost burst into tears. They held the grain and nearly kowtowed to Village Chief Lü to express their gratitude.

"Hey, don't thank me! Lin Chaosheng found all these things. If you want to thank someone, thank Lin Chaosheng!" Village Chief Lü hurriedly waved his hand and pointed to Lin Chaosheng standing to the side.

Lin Chaosheng had been standing quietly to the side, not wanting to attract attention. He just wanted to go home as soon as this matter was over to prevent anyone from bothering him. But as soon as Village Chief Lü said those words, everyone turned to look at Lin Chaosheng.

The old woman, who was about to kneel on the ground to kowtow and thank Village Chief Lü, suddenly turned around and walked to Lin Chaosheng, preparing to kneel down.

Lin Chaosheng rushed forward to support the old lady, saying, "No, no, no, ma'am, this is too much of a compliment!"

"Chaosheng, you are truly our savior," the old woman exclaimed, tears streaming down her face. "You went hunting in the mountains and shared the meat with us, and now you've found so much grain to share with everyone. I could never repay your kindness in several lifetimes!"

"Don't say that, Auntie. This is what I should do. We're all from the same village, and we should help each other out when we're in trouble. Besides, it's a year of famine, so it's only right that I do my part."

Lin Chaosheng comforted the old lady, and much of what he said was true. After all, in this day and age, accumulating good deeds is always useful.
