Lin Chaosheng knocked on the village chief's door. "Village chief, are you home? I'm Lin Chaosheng."
When Village Chief Lü opened the door, he asked in surprise, "Oh, Chaosheng? What's that you? What happened?"
Lin Chaosheng quickly waved his hand, "No, no, I just came to discuss something with you."
"Oh, okay, come in and sit down so we can talk." Village Chief Lü quickly gestured to his wife to pour some water. "Wife, we have a guest! Quickly, pour us a glass of water!"
"No need, no need. I'll just say a few words and then I'll be leaving. I won't trouble you two any further." Lin Chaosheng pulled out a chair and sat down.
"You've come here..." Village Chief Lü asked doubtfully.
"Oh, I was thinking that I've hunted quite a lot of game recently, but with my own abilities, what I've caught is definitely not enough to share with all the villagers..." Lin Chaosheng paused, "Now that everyone is having such a hard time, I feel really bad that my family and I have enough to eat and drink."
"So what are your thoughts?" Village Chief Lü asked again.
Lin Chaosheng cleared his throat. "I was planning to ask you to gather the able-bodied young men in the village who are willing to hunt with me tomorrow. Although what I hunt alone isn't enough for everyone to share, if we have more people, we'll get more, right?"
Lin Chaosheng scratched his head and continued, "Then each household should hunt a little bit of game, and then share it with those who don't have able-bodied men in the family, so that no one has to go hungry every day."
Upon hearing this, Village Chief Lü stood up in shock. He looked Lin Chaosheng up and down, wondering if the person in front of him was really him.
"You...you really think so?" Village Chief Lü asked incredulously.
Lin Chaosheng nodded solemnly. Actually, he did this so that he could bring more people up the mountain to prevent Li Erniu from ambushing him with his men, as he couldn't defeat so many of them by himself.
Secondly, he had seen some villagers who were emaciated and pale from hunger every day, and he couldn't bear to see some of them suffer like this.
Village Chief Lü no longer doubted him and solemnly patted Lin Chaosheng on the shoulder, "Good, good, Chaosheng, you have really impressed me. Not only have you become more motivated, but you also have such a high level of ideological awareness!"
As Village Chief Lü spoke, his eyes reddened. "Over the years, I've been useless as the village chief. Every day I can only watch everyone go hungry. Adults can manage to survive a bit of hunger, but some children can't..."
Lin Chaosheng squeezed Village Chief Lü's arm. "Village Chief, please don't say that. My father was sick before, and you helped him a lot. I don't know how to thank you enough. You are such a good village chief!"
Village Chief Lü looked at Lin Chaosheng gratefully, "Alright, it's getting late, you should go back and rest so you'll have the energy to lead everyone hunting tomorrow."
He then put on his clothes, saying, "I'll go door-to-door to inform everyone in a bit."
On his way home, Lin Chaosheng felt a little lighter.
Before he even stepped into the house, a delicious aroma wafted over.
Liang Mei and Liang Fu started cooking together at some point.
Lin Chaosheng felt a pang of regret. He should have kept track of time. He had been gone for too long and had made Liang Mei get out of bed to do chores again.
So he quickly stepped forward, grabbed the spatula from Liang Mei, and asked Liang Fu to take her to her room to rest.
"Don't get up and work anymore, Xiaomei. You need to rest!" Lin Chaosheng said firmly.
Liang Mei smiled helplessly, nodded, and went back to her room to wait.
In the kitchen, Lin Chaosheng skillfully simmered fish soup while simultaneously heating oil in a wok to prepare spicy boiled fish.
The moment the spices were added to the pot, the whole house was filled with a spicy and savory aroma.
Liang Mei had been hungry all day, and when she smelled this aroma, her stomach rumbled loudly.
Upon hearing this, Liang Fu immediately burst into laughter, "Sister, are you hungry? I'll go help your husband so you can eat quickly!"
Liang Mei slapped Liang Fu's bottom in embarrassment and annoyance, "You're such a chatterbox!"
Liang Fu smiled and walked out of the room, then went to Lin Chaosheng's side to help him.
"Huh? Why did you come out? Go inside and wait, we'll be eating soon." Lin Chaosheng looked at Liang Fu strangely.
Liang Fu whispered in Lin Chaosheng's ear, "My sister is hungry, I'll come out quickly to help you speed things up."
Lin Chaosheng became anxious after hearing this and quickly ladled out a bowl of fish soup for Liang Fufang to let cool outside.
"Dinner's ready!" Lin Chaosheng scooped up a spoonful of hot oil and poured it over the spicy boiled fish.
Liang Mei and Liang Fu were already seated, waiting for the last dish.
The moment Lin Chaosheng brought out the boiled fish, Liang Mei and Liang Fu swallowed hard.
"Eat up! Try my cooking," Lin Chaosheng said, placing a few slices of fish on each of their plates.
As soon as Liang Meigang put the fish in his mouth, the spicy flavor of the boiled fish surged up.
"It's so delicious!" Liang Mei's eyes lit up immediately.
Lin Chaosheng felt very proud and quickly picked out a few more slices for Liang Mei, saying, "Eat more if you like it, I'll make it for you again next time!"
Liang Fu looked at the loving couple beside her and couldn't help but suppress a laugh.
The three of them were sweating profusely during the meal. Ever since Lin Chaosheng became a better person, every meal had become increasingly enjoyable.
After the three of them had finished eating, Lin Chaosheng began to clean up.
"Chaosheng, I'm a little sleepy after eating, so please take care of these." Liang Mei said apologetically.
"What's the big deal? Go to sleep." Lin Chaosheng laughed.
After packing his things, Lin Chaosheng went into the room.
The moonlight shone through the window onto Liang Mei's face, making her face appear exceptionally thin.
Lin Chaosheng gently stroked his wife's cheek, sighing inwardly at her petite frame.
"She's still too thin. Starting tomorrow, I'll hunt a lot of game every day to help Xiaomei get back in shape."
Lin Chaosheng muttered to himself, then casually put his arm around his wife's waist and lay down.
The two slept soundly through the night.
The next morning, Lin Chaosheng got up early, and Lin Shansheng also arrived at his house. After the two packed their things, they met up with the young and strong men in the village.
He originally thought that very few people would go hunting with him.
Because of his bad reputation in the village, he had long ago made a second plan to guard against Li Erniu.
As a result, a group of people were already standing at the entrance of the village, waiting for him to arrive.
These villagers still had a bad impression of Lin Chaosheng, but the fact that Lin Chaosheng had made so many things in the past few days made them feel itchy to do the same.
Some people think that since they'll be starving at home anyway, they might as well try their luck. If they catch it, they can give their family a good meal; if they don't, they'll still go hungry.
Someone with sharp eyes spotted him immediately.
"They're here! They're here!" someone shouted.
"Chaosheng, when are we setting off?" a young man asked impatiently.
"Let's go now!" Lin Chaosheng's heart instantly boiled when he saw so many people coming.
They then hurriedly went up the mountain.
On the other side, Li Erniu, along with his many brothers, each armed with a real weapon, prepared to rob everything Lin Chaosheng had brought.
