Li Erniu's shout was heard by almost everyone in the village.
Upon hearing this, the onlookers began to whisper among themselves.
Upon hearing this, Lin Shansheng immediately wanted to step forward to argue, but Lin Chaosheng grabbed him.
Lin Chaosheng looked at Li Erniu expressionlessly, squeezed his younger brother's wrist, and signaled him not to get excited.
"Li Erniu, what do you mean by that?"
"What do you mean?" Li Erniu gave a sarcastic laugh. "Gentlemen, please be the judge for me, Li Erniu!"
“A few days ago, my brothers and I found a big rabbit burrow on the mountain and set several snares along the mountain road.”
"I went there early this morning and found that all the rabbits had been taken away, which I was wondering about. Then I just heard that the two Lin boys brought back ten big rabbits!"
"You're making baseless accusations!" Lin Shan's face flushed red with anger. "These rabbits were clearly caught by us in front of their burrows, not picked up on the mountain path!"
Zheng Ergou wasn't going to back down either, shouting loudly, "Bullshit! Our traps were marked! There are even trap marks on the rabbit's legs!"
"They stole our things and dare to take them out so openly!"
"That's right, they simply don't respect our Second Master at all!"
Li Erniu's men echoed the shouts.
Upon hearing this, the onlookers and villagers began to have doubts.
Lin Chaosheng watched coldly, already guessing that Li Erniu and his group were jealous and couldn't stand it, so they had devised this frame-up.
"You say these rabbits are yours, but do you have any proof?" Lin Chaosheng looked at Li Erniu sarcastically.
"Evidence?" Li Erniu sneered. "Besides us, who else would have gone down the mountain path to set traps? Besides, you're a good-for-nothing who's never hunted before. How could you possibly catch so many rabbits at once?"
These words immediately aroused even more confusion among everyone.
Yes, Lin Chaosheng used to be a lazy gambler. How could he have hunted so many big, fat rabbits on his own?
"Brother!" Lin Shansheng looked at Lin Chaosheng anxiously, his fingers clenching until they turned white.
Lin Chaosheng shook his head, smiled, and asked, "You didn't say that the rabbit was caught by a trap you set on the hillside. May I ask which hillside it was on?"
“It’s on the north slope!” Zheng Ergou said decisively.
"So, which part of the north slope is it? There has to be a specific location, right? You can't just set it up from beginning to end, can you?" Lin Chaosheng asked calmly.
Zheng Ergou was stunned. He hadn't expected Lin Chaosheng to ask this question. He stammered, "It's on the north slope, west of the big pine tree, and the thicket of bushes under the big pine tree."
"The north slope? But we caught these rabbits on the south slope; we didn't even pass by the north slope." Lin Chaosheng laughed.
The scene erupted in uproar.
Zheng Ergou's expression changed drastically in an instant, and he changed his words, saying, "I...I remembered wrong! It's on the south slope!"
"Which part of the south slope?" Lin Chaosheng pressed, "The south slope is quite large."
"It's over there on the south slope, over there on a big rock." Zheng Ergou was sweating profusely with anxiety.
Lin Chaosheng didn't want to argue with him any further, so he took out a rabbit from the hunting net. "Everyone heard that, they were absolutely certain that these rabbits were caught in their trap, right?"
Everyone stared blankly at Lin Chaosheng, nodding, wondering what kind of nonsense he would come up with.
“Then everyone, please come closer and take a look,” Lin Chaosheng said, lifting the rabbit up to gesture for everyone to come forward. “This rabbit’s nose is full of cigarette ash.”
Then he turned the rabbit over and said, "There's soot on the rabbit's fur too."
After Lin Chaosheng finished demonstrating to everyone, he asked, "So I want to know, how come this rabbit, which is caught in a snare, has cigarette ash on it?"
After the villagers who were watching confirmed that it was cigarette ash, they all started talking about this group of people.
Seeing that things were not going well, Li Erniu hurriedly tried to argue, "Then we lit cigarette ash in the trap!"
"Then may I ask what kind of cigarettes you lit?" Lin Chaosheng questioned.
“This…” Li Erniu was sweating profusely and stammered, unable to utter a single word.
"Then let me ask you another question: which direction will the rabbit run after being smoked? You said you set a trap on the north slope, but the rabbit has a burrow to the south where it can escape. Did you know that?" Lin Chaosheng continued to ask slowly.
Li Erniu and his group were completely dumbfounded; they couldn't answer a single question Lin Chaosheng asked.
The villagers chuckled, and someone shouted, "Li Erniu, you bunch of people don't even know where a rabbit runs off to, what kind of trap did you set?"
"Gentlemen," Lin Chaosheng pressed his advantage, "this group knows nothing when questioned, they don't even know where they set themselves in a trap. Can this rabbit really be theirs?"
The villagers burst into laughter, and Li Erniu's face instantly turned a deep liver color.
"And another thing," Lin Chaosheng continued, picking up the rabbit that had been knocked unconscious by the smoke, "they said that these rabbits were all caught in traps they set. But unfortunately, this one was knocked unconscious by the smoke I lit."
Lin Chaosheng pried open the rabbit's mouth to show its teeth. "If it had been hunted, its teeth and limbs would have shown signs of struggle, and its claws would have been broken. But this one's teeth and claws were all intact. I hit the back of its head with a stick to kill it and prevent it from waking up."
Several hunters present stepped forward to examine the rabbit and nodded in agreement. "Indeed, the rabbit was first knocked unconscious by the fumes."
When Li Erniu saw that his lie had been exposed, he immediately flew into a rage, shouting, "You just wait!"
Then he turned and left, shouting, "Let's go!"
Seeing this, Lin Shansheng breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Lin Chaosheng with admiration, "Brother, you're amazing! I admire you even more now!"
Lin Chaosheng breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, the system had told him some details about the smoke rabbit trap beforehand, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to find the loophole in this group's scheme.
Lin Chaosheng was still uneasy. He shook his head and said, "Don't be too happy yet. They won't let this go."
Amidst the envious and jealous glances of the villagers, Lin Chaosheng and Lin Shansheng led the rabbit home.
This turmoil was only just beginning, Lin Chaosheng knew in his heart, after all, he still owed Li Erniu money.
The most important thing now is to pay back the money as soon as possible so that I won't have any leverage against me anymore.
As Lin Chaosheng pondered these thoughts, he arrived at his front door.
Lin Shansheng excitedly called out to the Liang sisters, Liang Mei and Liang Fu, from a great distance to come out and see.
"Sister-in-law! Come quick! Look at the big rabbit my brother caught!"
Liang Mei and Liang Fu hurriedly came out of the room and were so surprised when they saw the ten big fat rabbits on Lin Chaosheng and Lin Shansheng's backs that their jaws almost dropped.
"Where did you catch this rabbit?"
