He knocked on the door, and Wei He, seeing it was him, quickly invited him in.
"Brother Lin! It's you! Come in and sit down." Wei He opened the door and grabbed Lin Chaosheng's wrist.
"I just came to bring you some things," Lin Chaosheng said, unfolding the cloth bag on the table after making sure Wei He had closed the door. "I had some steamed buns left over from yesterday, so I thought I'd bring them to you."
When Wei He saw the large steamed bun, his eyes widened, but he quickly waved his hands, saying, "No, no, how can I accept this? Please take it back!"
Hearing the noise, Aunt Wei asked, "Xiaohe, who is it?"
"Grandma, come out quickly, it's Brother Lin." Wei He responded.
"Chaosheng?" Grandma Wei walked out of the house, leaning unsteadily on her cane. "Are you taking Xiaohe hunting now?"
“No, Grandma,” Lin Chaosheng smiled, “I’m here to bring you something.”
After speaking, he pointed to the steamed buns on the table.
Grandma Wei leaned closer to take a look and found that there were actually four big steamed buns!
She quickly covered the cloth bag and looked around.
"Why did you bring such valuable things here? We can't accept them!" Grandma Wei quickly shook her head.
Lin Chaosheng comforted her, "Grandma, please accept this. You haven't had anything good to eat lately, so I only brought this little bit."
"This is no small amount! No, you must take it back!" Grandma Wei said anxiously.
Seeing that there was no other way, Lin Chaosheng quickly changed his tune, "Grandma, Xiaohe is going hunting with me tomorrow. What if we encounter danger if we don't eat something?"
As Lin Chaosheng spoke, he stepped forward and rolled up Wei He's sleeves, saying, "Look how skinny you are, how am I supposed to take you hunting?"
Grandma Wei became even more anxious upon hearing this, "It's my fault for being incompetent, for not being able to feed my eldest grandson properly. I... I deserve to die!"
As she spoke, Grandma Wei prepared to slap herself.
Lin Chaosheng quickly stopped Grandma Wei, "Grandma, it's not your fault! Besides, there's food right here, so please accept it!"
Grandma Wei sighed and sat down, staring blankly into the distance for a while.
Suddenly, he stood up again, preparing to kneel and kowtow to Lin Chaosheng, "Chaosheng, I will definitely repay this great kindness to you later!"
Lin Chaosheng panicked immediately and quickly helped Grandma Wei up. "Oh dear, you're shortening my lifespan! How about this, let Wei He be my little brother!"
Grandma Wei, with tears in her eyes and overflowing with gratitude, nodded and agreed quickly.
After Lin Chaosheng left, he felt a pang of emotion. He thought of his parents in his previous life, who begged for food everywhere to keep him from going hungry.
Even at an advanced age, they still go hunting in the mountains and fishing in the sea...
Back then, when I saw the meager amount of food, I would fly into a rage at my parents and almost hit them.
"I'm really not human," Lin Chaosheng thought to himself.
Lin Chaosheng couldn't bear to see any elders like this suffer, which is why he offered help to the Wei family.
As Lin Chaosheng pondered this, he walked home.
The aroma of lard grew stronger and stronger, and Lin Chaosheng's stomach rumbled loudly as soon as he smelled it.
As soon as he pushed open the door, Lin Chaosheng was enveloped by the aroma of lard, and he hurriedly went to the kitchen.
Liang Mei was stir-frying the minced meat, and then she sprinkled a layer of chopped green onions on top.
The golden-yellow minced meat mixed with bright green scallions made Lin Chaosheng feel like he could eat the whole pot right now.
"Oh, brother-in-law's back! Hurry up and wash your hands for dinner." Liang Fu was holding a bowl and chopsticks, about to put them on the table.
"What are you doing?" Lin Chaosheng asked, his eyes fixed on the white noodles Zhao Shufang had scooped up.
Liang Fu waved her hand in front of Lin Chaosheng, "Brother-in-law?" Liang Fu looked at Lin Chaosheng's drooling expression with amusement, "We're having minced meat noodles today."
Lin Chaosheng's eyes lit up immediately upon hearing this, "I'll go help!"
He had just stepped into the house when Zhao Shufang pushed him out, saying, "You greedy boy! Go and call your father and Shansheng over to eat together."
Upon hearing this, Lin Chaosheng rushed off as if his feet were on fire, eager to devour the glistening noodles.
Lured by the food, Lin Chaosheng, Lin Shansheng, and Lin Shanhai arrived quickly.
Just as Zhao Shufang was putting down the mixed noodles, she saw the three gluttons.
"Look at them, as soon as they hear there's something delicious, these three run faster than anyone else. No wonder they're father and sons!" Zhao Shufang mocked.
But the father and his two sons had no time to argue; they picked up their bowls like hungry wolves and began to eat voraciously.
"There's still some left in the pot, you three eat slowly!" Zhao Shufang scolded.
"Mom, let's eat quickly!" Liang Mei handed Zhao Shufang a large bowl of noodles.
"Okay, you two eat too!" Zhao Shufang said with a smile as she took the food.
Watching this large family sitting together, chatting and laughing as they ate, Zhao Shufang was deeply moved.
She thought, maybe moving here would be a good thing.
After all, the happiest thing is for a family to be together.
Thinking of this, Zhao Shufang was so happy that she ate half a bowl more noodles.
After the meal, everyone worked together to quickly and thoroughly clean up the dishes and utensils.
Before leaving, Zhao Shufang cleared her throat and announced, "Chaosheng, I agree to move in."
Lin Chaosheng was overjoyed, "Really, Mother? That's wonderful!"
After saying that, he happily hugged her.
Zhao Shufang patted Lin Chaosheng on the back, "Alright, alright, you're such a big kid now, aren't you ashamed? Okay, we'll be going now! You guys get some rest."
Lin Chaosheng saw them to the door, saying, "Alright, Mom, be careful on your way! Shansheng, take good care of your parents!"
Lin Shansheng, having somehow learned it, turned and saluted Lin Chaosheng: "Mission accomplished!"
This made the group burst into laughter.
That night, Lin Chaosheng lay down with Liang Mei in his arms, still feeling a surge of excitement.
He chattered on and on about his vision of the future to Liang Mei: "When the time comes, we'll build five big houses. One for the two of us, one for our parents, one for Shansheng, one for Xiaofu, and one for our baby to sleep in."
Liang Mei gently patted Lin Chaosheng's face and said with a smile, "Stop talking nonsense. You have to get up early tomorrow morning."
Lin Chaosheng wanted to tease Liang Mei some more, but the person in his arms was breathing heavily.
"I will definitely give you the best life!" Lin Chaosheng pressed his forehead against Liang Mei's and slowly fell asleep.
The next morning, Lin Chao got up full of energy.
After he finished packing his things and went outside, a group of young men were already squatting at the door.
They were armed on their shoulders and backs, their faces beaming with excitement.
"Brother, when I arrived, there were already a bunch of them here." Lin Shansheng whispered in Lin Chaosheng's ear.
"It's alright, you can bring them along. It'll save them from getting jealous and trying to take ours. I can take care of them, but the rest is up to each of us," Lin Chaosheng comforted Lin Shansheng.
"Everyone, let's go fishing today." Lin Chaosheng raised his hand and led the young men toward the West Sea.
