Upon hearing that Liang Mei was about to vomit, Zhao Shufang was reminded of her own pregnancy.
"Old man, do you think Xiaomei might be pregnant?" Zhao Shufang asked Lin Shanhai cautiously.
Lin Shanhai thought for a moment, then, recalling Zhao Shufang's pregnancy symptoms, suggested to Lin Chaosheng, "Chaosheng, I think your mother might be right. Xiaomei's symptoms just now seem like she's pregnant. Why don't we take her to the hospital to get checked out?"
Lin Chaosheng felt a mix of joy and worry at first, "But... but why would I faint if I'm pregnant?"
"Oh dear, that's why we should take your sister-in-law to the hospital first. It's better than us just worrying here. If it's some other illness, it might delay things..." Before Lin Shansheng could finish speaking anxiously, Lin Chaosheng picked up Liang Mei and ran towards the hospital.
"Hey! You don't have any money, so run away!" Zhao Shufang called out to Lin Chaosheng from behind, but Lin Chaosheng had already disappeared.
Lin Shanhai had already started packing his things. "Alright, old woman, let's hurry up and pack our things and catch up."
Zhao Shufang sighed and instructed, "Shansheng, you, Xiaohe, and Xiaofu stay at home. Do as much as you can, and we'll come back and do the rest."
The three nodded obediently and got back to work without stopping.
Liang Fu felt very uneasy and wanted to go to the hospital to see a doctor.
Wei He saw through her thoughts and comforted her, "Alright, Sister Xiao Fu, if you go to the hospital, there will be so many people crowding around, which won't be good for Sister Xiao Mei's recovery."
“Yes, Wei He is right. We might as well finish our work quickly and share the burden with them. I feel that Sister Xiaomei is still exhausted.” Lin Shansheng covered the noodles to rest and came out of the kitchen to help the two of them.
Lin Chaosheng carried Liang Mei on his back and ran all the way, but he gradually ran out of strength and was walking slowly.
Fortunately, Zhao Shufang and Lin Shanhai, fearing they might delay things, gave some money to a man hauling goods in an oxcart and caught up with Lin Chaosheng in the oxcart.
"Come on up!" Zhao Shufang shouted to Lin Chaosheng in front of her.
When Lin Chaosheng turned around, he saw Zhao Shufang and Lin Shanhai sitting in the oxcart. His eyes lit up as if he had seen a savior.
"Father, Mother, what brings you here?" Lin Chaosheng said as he gently placed Liang Mei on the oxcart.
Zhao Shufang flicked Lin Chaosheng on the forehead, saying, "You rascal, you're always so reckless." She then handed the package to Lin Chaosheng, asking, "Did you bring these things with you to see the doctor?"
Lin Chaosheng opened the bag and immediately felt annoyed.
"I'm such an idiot..." Lin Chaosheng said, slapping his forehead.
"Let's not talk about this anymore, let's get in quickly." Lin Shanhai pulled Lin Chaosheng into the car.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Lin Chaosheng quickly took out money to register at the front of the line.
He then held Liang Mei in his arms and waited on the chair, at which point Liang Mei woke up.
She saw a white wall above her and was enveloped in the mixed smell of disinfectant and traditional Chinese medicine. She asked, "Where am I?"
Lin Chaosheng looked excitedly at Liang Mei, who had just woken up, and said, "You're awake, wife! Don't worry, this is a hospital. You just fainted, so we brought you here to check on you."
"The hospital?!" Liang Mei struggled to stand up. "I don't want to see a doctor, let's go back!"
Lin Chaosheng pulled Liang Mei back into her chair. "That won't do. Your health is too poor. You'll have to get it checked out sooner or later."
"I'm really fine!" Liang Mei wanted to leave, but her body was no match for Lin Chaosheng. "This is so expensive! All the money you worked so hard to earn is gone after just one trip to the hospital!"
Zhao Shufang quickly dissuaded him, saying, "Good child, just be a good boy and listen to me. You can earn money again, but you only have one life!"
Lin Shanhai quickly nodded in agreement.
"But, but..." Liang Mei wanted to say something, but was interrupted by the nurse's notification.
"Liang Mei! Is Liang Mei here?" The nurse came out of the consultation room to inform Liang Mei to come in for her appointment.
"Coming, coming?" Lin Chaosheng quickly answered for Liang Mei.
Seeing that this was not an option, Liang Mei had no choice but to go inside to see a doctor.
"Where do you feel unwell?" the doctor in a white coat and mask asked seriously.
“No…” Liang Mei didn’t want to spend money on medicine, but Lin Chaosheng interrupted her.
"She suddenly felt nauseous, then stood up and fainted on the ground. She just woke up," Lin Chaosheng answered truthfully.
The doctor frowned. "How many times has this happened?" he said, then picked up a stethoscope and placed it on Liang Mei's heart.
Lin Chaosheng recalled for a moment and replied, "This is the second time. It's all my fault. I should have taken her to see a doctor last time. I thought she was just tired..."
The doctor listened silently for a while before putting down his stethoscope and saying, "It's nothing serious. She's just malnourished during her pregnancy, which is why she keeps fainting."
"Pregnant?" Lin Chaosheng asked incredulously.
"Yes, it's been three months. From now on, you need to avoid strenuous exercise, make sure to supplement your diet with protein, carbohydrates, and fiber, and ensure your nutrition is comprehensive and sufficient," the doctor nodded and instructed.
Liang Mei stood there, stunned, still reeling from the news.
Lin Chaosheng hurriedly bowed and helped Liang Mei up as they walked out, saying, "Thank you, doctor, thank you, doctor."
"How is it?" Zhao Shufang and Lin Shanhai anxiously approached Lin Chaosheng and Liang Mei.
They stared at Liang Mei in shock, their hearts nearly stopping.
Lin Chaosheng smiled mysteriously, "Good news, parents!"
Zhao Shufang and Lin Shanhai were initially hesitant to confirm, and cautiously asked, "Is it true?"
Lin Chaosheng nodded excitedly, "Yes! I'm going to be a dad, and you're going to be grandpas and grandmas!"
Upon hearing this, Zhao Shufang immediately knelt down and began to bow to the wall, startling everyone waiting to see a doctor.
"God bless you! God bless you!" Zhao Shufang prayed gratefully.
Lin Shanhai glanced speechlessly at the frightened looks around him, then quickly pulled Zhao Shufang up. "Alright, old woman, if you want to do the prayers, go home. Look how scared everyone is!"
Lin Chaosheng and Liang Mei exchanged a smile, feeling a surge of sweetness in their hearts.
"Let's go, Mom and Dad, let's go home and tell them the good news." Lin Chaosheng helped Liang Mei up and called to Zhao Shufang and Lin Shanhai to go home.
Zhao Shufang didn't want Liang Mei to walk, feeling that she should rest properly as advised by the doctor. "Xiao Mei, you should take a rickshaw instead of walking back."
Liang Mei refused, but Lin Chaosheng grabbed her and put her in the car. "To Xiangyang Village."
Lin Chaosheng said this to the driver and handed him a few cents.
"Mother, you should go up too. You've had a long day, and it's not safe for Xiaomei to go alone."
“That’s true.” Zhao Shufang climbed into the car.
Lin Chaosheng quickly paid another amount.
After taking the money, the driver disappeared in a flash.
"Gentlemen, is this it?" The driver quickly arrived at the village entrance.
Zhao Shufang helped Liang Mei out of the car and quickly thanked the driver, saying, "Yes, this is it. Thank you for your help."
The sharp-eyed villagers immediately noticed that the two had gotten off a rickshaw and were filled with envy.
"My goodness, you two are so lucky to have such a capable man from Chaozhou in your family!" said Aunt Zhang.
Zhao Shufang waved her hand, "No, it's mainly because Xiaomei can't get too tired right now."
"Why?" Aunt Zhang thought for a moment. "Could it be that you're pregnant?"
