Looking out, Li Xiangdong saw a completely different scene from the bustling prosperity that would later appear.
There are no towering buildings yet, no neon lights flashing all night long. Everywhere is gray and low-rise houses, narrow streets, much like Huichuan County, only much larger!
Seeing Li Xiangdong looking at the city scene without saying a word, Feng Yucai thought to himself, "What a country bumpkin!"
Is this your first time seeing a big city?
Feng Yucai nudged Li Xiangdong with his elbow.
Li Xiangdong nodded and walked out.
Although he knew that the two scrapped Oriental combine harvesters were at the scrap yard, he still had to ask the locals for the exact location of the scrap yard.
At this moment, Li Xiangdong especially missed all kinds of navigation systems!
Feng Yucai continued to grumble in the back, saying that Dongfang City was just a prefecture-level city, far inferior to Shanghai!
Don't be fooled by your opinion; compared to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, this is just a vegetable garden!
If we're talking about the whole of China, only Shanghai can be considered a city. Beijing is just a big village!
Li Xiangdong was incredibly annoyed by the superiority complex of these Shanghai residents!
"Then why don't you go back to your big city? What are you doing staying in this little manure pit in our vegetable garden?"
Feng Yucai was speechless again. Was this something he could decide?
After a brief moment of quiet, Feng Yucai asked again, "Why did you bring me to Dongfang City? Now you should tell me, right?"
Li Xiangdong never expected that this gluttonous and lecherous fellow would also be such a chatterbox. "You'll see when the time comes!"
The two went to a state-run hotel, took out their letters of introduction, and asked the hotel to book them a room.
"A single room costs three yuan a night, and a double room costs seven mao a night!"
A large dormitory room usually houses four or five people, all of whom live on a large kang (heated brick bed). A single room is better, with two single beds.
Feng Yucai stared at Li Xiangdong expectantly, fearing that he would choose the big shop, because those people were all infested with lice!
He doesn't want to get infected!
"I'd like a single room, and I'll book for three nights!"
Li Xiangdong readily pulled out ten yuan.
The waiter brought out two white enamel basins and two pairs of plastic slippers. "When you check out, please return these items. If they are damaged, you will receive triple compensation!"
Feng Yucai was relieved; Li Xiangdong, that country bumpkin, was actually quite willing to spend money!
After settling their luggage, the two went to the front desk, where the waiter was eating sunflower seeds.
"Sister, do you know how many scrap yards there are in our Dongfang City?"
Now, no matter how old the woman is, Li Xiangdong calls her "sister." He now understands that every girl likes to be complimented on her youth!
"Four or five, I guess! What's wrong?"
The waiter spat out the two sunflower seed shells with a "smack".
"Where are they all? How do I get there? Can you tell me?"
"There's one in each of the four cardinal directions. Go find them!"
......
Li Xiangdong and Feng Yucai left the hotel and decided to try their luck on the east side first, since the road to Bincheng passed through the east first.
After asking around, the two took two buses and walked for half a day before finally finding a large waste recycling station!
Li Xiangdong searched inside carefully for a long time, but couldn't find the scrapped combine harvester.
They inquired their way to the south of the city.
It was already dark when we arrived at the South City scrap metal recycling station.
Li Xiangdong gave the gatekeeper a few "Yunyan" cigarettes with filters. The old man tucked one behind one ear and smoked one in his mouth, then enthusiastically accompanied them around several times with a flashlight.
Li Xiangdong was getting a little anxious as he still hadn't seen the combine harvester.
Time is too tight!
He wasn't sure how long it would take Feng Yucai to repair the two harvesters. If the wheat couldn't be harvested before the torrential rains that would last for more than ten days, then everything he was doing now would be meaningless!
Li Xiangdong politely said goodbye to the old man, thanking him for accompanying them in the middle of the night to search for their belongings.
"Don't be shy! Your cigarette is quite good!"
The old man smacked his lips in enjoyment.
Li Xiangdong himself doesn't like smoking and can't understand the attraction of cigarettes to someone who loves them. Seeing the old man's expression, he offered him two more cigarettes.
The old man happily accepted it.
As the two turned to leave, Li Xiangdong's peripheral vision suddenly caught sight of a pile of jars and pots in the corner of the yard!
His heart started pounding uncontrollably!
"Grandpa, I see there's a pile of things in the southeast corner."
Li Xiangdong wasn't in a hurry to leave. If he wasn't mistaken, he had really gotten something for nothing!
"That pile of junk?" The old man pointed. "A bunch of unwanted broken porcelain! It was dumped here during the Cultural Revolution, many years ago!"
Li Xiangdong tried his best to suppress his racing heartbeat and said in a calm voice, "Can I go and take a look?"
"Look, it's all broken! They said it was a decoration for a capitalist's home, but now that it's broken, it's worthless!" the old man said casually.
Li Xiangdong felt a chill in his heart. The old man knew the origin of this pile of porcelain. If there was any flaw, it would definitely have been taken away!
However, we should at least take a look, just in case.
Li Xiangdong borrowed the old man's flashlight and went over.
This pile of broken porcelain is indeed quite old; it's covered in dust, and in some places, thick cobwebs have formed.
Feng Yucai had just walked around a few times and was covered in large, red, swollen, and itchy mosquito bites all over his body. He didn't want to go with Li Xiangdong.
In that area, if you shine a flashlight, you'll see swarms of mosquitoes!
And so, the old man and Feng Yucai chatted and drank water in the small duty room, while Li Xiangdong became more and more excited as he looked through the pile of broken porcelain!
