After graduating from vocational school, Li Song was assigned to work as a clerk at the Huichuan County Agricultural Bureau. This was a government-employed job, and his household registration changed from rural to urban. The three words "non-agricultural" on his household registration book were so prominent that even his older brother, who had been the brigade secretary for ten lifetimes, couldn't compare.
Li Song was quite proud of his job, especially since he had started dating the beautiful Shi Fengfeng after settling into his new job. With both career and love flourishing, Li Song was feeling quite triumphant and ambitious lately, as if he were riding high on a whim, enjoying all the sights of Chang'an in a single day.
"What are you yelling about! It's inappropriate!" Li Song scolded his second nephew, who was covered in sweat and dressed in tattered clothes, as he barged in. His eyebrows furrowed. "How did you know my office was here?"
Li Xiangdong completely ignored his question, grabbed Li Song's hand and walked outside, "Uncle, I saw Auntie, she's waiting for you to watch the movie at the Moulin Rouge Cinema!"
"How do you know who Fengfeng is? Have you seen her? I didn't ask her to go to the movies!" Li Song asked a series of questions, trying to shake off his nephew's hand. He tried twice but couldn't. Hey, why is Xiao Erzi's hand so strong? It's like a steel claw gripping him tightly.
"Let go, let go! I can walk by myself!" Li Song said as Li Xiangdong dragged him out of the gate of the Agricultural Bureau.
The Agricultural Bureau is not far from the Red Mill Cinema, and the state-run restaurant is in the middle; all three locations are situated on the main street in the central part of the county town.
As Li Xiangdong passed by the state-run restaurant, he suddenly stopped and pointed to a woman sitting by the window, saying, "Auntie is waiting for you at the restaurant."
Li Song was caught off guard by Li Xiangdong's sudden stop and stumbled. After hearing Li Xiangdong's words, he turned to look at the state-run restaurant. It did look a bit like Fengfeng. Who was that man opposite him? And why were the two of them chatting and laughing?
With suspicion in his heart, Li Song walked quickly towards the restaurant.
Li Xiangdong released Li Song's hand at the opportune moment and nodded slightly to Feng Zhiqing, who happened to be looking over.
Shi Fengfeng, who had eaten three meat buns in one go, suddenly felt a little embarrassed. Was her eating manners good? Did she smack her lips? Would she leave Feng Zhiqing with the impression of being a glutton?
"Look at you, your braids are all undone." Feng Zhiqing suddenly said affectionately, reaching out her fair hand to tidy up Shi Fengfeng's braids.
Shi Fengfeng felt as if fireworks were exploding above her head, and she was stunned for a moment. Feng Zhiqing in front of her seemed to be surrounded by a halo. This was a feeling she had never had in twenty years. Could this be the feeling of being in love?
Shi Fengfeng was still immersed in this wonderful and sweet feeling, completely unaware that Li Song was walking angrily toward her.
"You shameless woman! You cheated on me with someone else!"
A loud shout jolted Shi Fengfeng awake. She looked up and saw Li Song's face flushed with anger.
With a "smack," Li Song slapped Shi Fengfeng across the face, leaving five finger marks.
Startled, Feng quickly backed away. Good heavens, Li Xiangdong hadn't said this person had violent tendencies. What if he hit her later?
In a flash, Feng Zhiqing pushed back the chair and was about to run away.
Li Xiangdong had just walked in and silently said a few words to Feng Zhiqing, who was about to run away.
Feng, the educated youth, understood. What he meant was, "Don't run away, or you won't get fifty yuan."
Damn it! I'm going all in for fifty yuan. If this violent guy dares to hit me, I'll lie down and extort 88,000 yuan from him, and I'll stay in the hospital for two months, which will make me miss the wheat harvest!
No one knew that Feng Zhiqing had thought of so much in an instant.
Suddenly, Feng, the educated youth, shouted, "Don't hit Fengfeng! Hitting women is wrong!"
"Fengfeng? You son of a bitch, where the hell did you come from? It's none of your business if I hit my own woman!"
A tender, lingering voice reached Li Song's ears, fueling his anger. He cracked his knuckles and charged at Feng Zhiqing.
Feng, the educated youth, was so frightened that her legs trembled uncontrollably, but she still insisted on not running away. "Let me explain," she said, "Fengfeng and I are innocent..."
Just as Li Song was about to punch Feng Zhiqing in the face, Shi Fengfeng screamed. Feng Zhiqing closed his eyes, thinking, "My hospital vacation is about to begin."
To everyone's surprise, the expected pain did not come. Feng Zhiqing secretly opened one eye and saw Li Song sneer, "I won't hit you. I'm a government employee, hitting you would be a violation of discipline."
Li Xiangdong was truly impressed by his uncle's control. Both his father and uncle were like his grandmother, it was definitely inherited in their blood, that is, profit is the most important thing.
"Shi Fengfeng, tell me, what exactly happened today!"
"You asked me to come to the movies at 5 pm yesterday, but I came early. A thief stole my money, and Brother Feng helped me find it. He even treated me to steamed buns." Shi Fengfeng explained anxiously. The slap she had just received had completely woken up the lovestruck Shi Fengfeng.
She, a poor village girl, finally managed to get close to Li Song, who had a government job. His mother wanted the whole village to know, saying that the Shi family's ancestral graves were emitting auspicious smoke.
Feng, the educated youth, was better looking than Li Song, but even so, he was still an educated youth—one without a formal job and one who hadn't returned to the city. What could he offer her? Even if she could be with him, what would happen to her older brother?
Feng, the educated youth, didn't have a younger sister or niece who married his older brother!
Thinking of this, Shi Fengfeng broke out in a cold sweat, and her voice became even more sincere as she explained and begged for mercy.
Unfortunately, the Li and Song dynasties didn't believe a single word!
First of all, I didn't ask Shi Fengfeng to go to the movies. If Xiao Erzi hadn't seen her and told me, how would I have known that Shi Fengfeng was cheating on me right under my nose?
Also, the money was stolen, and the pretty boy found it for her. With that pretty boy's skinny, pale-faced physique, how could he catch up with the thief?
