Chapter 464: Second Generation Machine

Fang Lang's words once again sparked a heated discussion among the people in the conference room. This news was a completely new idea for everyone present.

After all, in everyone's opinion, who would think of installing radar on airplanes when they already have ground radar guidance?

This discussion was obviously more intense than the previous ones, and soon someone raised his hand to ask a question.

"Boss, is this news of yours true?"

Fang Lang nodded affirmatively and said:

"Of course, this is still confidential information of the Americans, please do not spread it. But I can tell you with certainty that this is true, and this aircraft will have its first test flight this year."

The discussion in the conference room now became louder. Everyone was discussing how this change would affect air combat, while some were discussing how this technology should be implemented.

However, no one stood up to say that this was unnecessary. After all, anything could happen during wartime, and it was common for ground radars to be destroyed.

If there is an air search radar on the plane, it can ensure that they will not become deaf and blind even without the guidance of ground radar.

...

...

After discussing for a while, everyone gradually quieted down and focused their attention on Fang Lang again, hoping that he could bring even bigger surprises to everyone.

Fang Lang did not disappoint everyone and continued:

"This latest American jet fighter not only has an air search radar, which caught my attention, but also has a brand-new weapon configuration.

That's the rocket.

I think everyone is familiar with rockets. I even heard that some of the people here have participated in rocket research in Germany.

Why am I paying attention to rockets?

Because he made me see the future. Maybe some people will think that I am exaggerating. Rockets are just like that. If you want to hit an enemy plane when you install it on an airplane, you have to rely on luck.

Then why do I say that rockets let me see the future?

They may be equipped with unguided rockets now, but don't forget that during the research period of the V-2 missile, scientists proved that missiles can be guided with radar beams, and rockets can obviously do the same.

Radio-guided missiles have already appeared, so it is not impossible to miniaturize missiles, install them on aircraft, and use radio and radar waves, or even infrared detectors to track the heat source of the aircraft for guidance! "

As soon as these words were spoken, the conference room exploded, and everyone began to discuss whether these technologies were possible to realize and how difficult it would be. Soon everyone realized that this was not an unachievable goal.

This means that what Fang Lang said will come true sooner or later. Everyone looked at Fang Lang with respect. Obviously, Fang Lang did have a deep understanding of the future tactics of the Air Force.

Today's words have taught everyone a good lesson and given us a new direction in the research of future aircraft products.

There is no doubt that missiles will become the main weapon in future air combat.

Kurt Tank's eyes were even deeper, and he had already started thinking in his mind, if it is true as Fang Lang said, after guided missiles become weapons for air combat, how will air combat tactics change, and in which direction should the design ideas of aircraft be adjusted.

This time the discussion lasted significantly longer, but Fang Lang was not in a hurry. He just picked up the water cup in front of him, took a few sips of tea to moisten his throat, and then watched everyone discuss quietly.

In fact, needless to say, everyone understands that since the Americans have taken the lead in attempting this, it obviously means that this direction should be worth trying.

Therefore, the voices of discussion soon died down, and everyone's eyes began to focus on Fang Lang again. Obviously, they were waiting for Fang Lang's next words.

Seeing this, Fang Lang smiled slightly and said to everyone:

"It seems that everyone agrees with my judgment on the future of missiles, right?"

Everyone nodded in agreement. Fang Lang also nodded and reorganized his words and thoughts before saying:

“In fact, I think in the future world, missiles will become the most important weapon, the real weapon of a great power.

What we have just discussed is just one category of missiles. I will call it air-to-air missiles for the time being, that is, missiles launched from the sky and targeting aerial targets.

In addition to air-to-air missiles, there will definitely be air-to-ground missiles. From the literal meaning, everyone should be able to understand that they are missiles that are fired from the air at ground targets.

Both of these are the main weapons of future aircraft. In this case, the tactics of the Air Force will usher in a change, and air combat will become the attack and defense tactics of air-to-air missiles.

I believe that everyone should not have any doubts about this! "

Soon someone raised his hand and asked:

"Boss, I can understand the offensive tactics between air-to-air missiles, but the defensive tactics? Since they can be directly guided and locked, how can we defend?"

Hearing this, Fang Lang was also stunned. He had never seriously studied how airplanes defended against missiles. However, he had seen some thrilling scenes of dodging missile attacks in TV and movies.

Anyway, these are just paper talk now, and he doesn't mind making some guesses based on what he has seen on TV. After all, fighter jets produced in the future will also need to have the ability to defend against missile attacks.

“We Chinese have a term called shield and spear. A shield is a long-handled bladed weapon, one side of which is used to stab the enemy.

The shield is used to defend against the enemy's attack. Since there is a spear, there must be a shield.

Therefore, with the new air-to-air missile, there will naturally be ways to defend against it.

But to be honest, the defense methods I can think of now are also very limited. Here I can only take out a few points that I can think of to give you a hint and broaden your thinking.

First of all, I think the most important point is that the aircraft must have a radar warning system. That is to say, when the aircraft you are driving is illuminated and locked by enemy radar, it must be able to issue an alarm in the first time to remind the pilot that you have been locked by the enemy's missile.

In this way, pilots can detect danger at the first time and respond immediately.

The first reaction a pilot can make is to maneuver quickly to break free from the missile's lock and make the missile lose its position.

However, this requires a high level of pilots, because the flying speed of missiles is often very fast. If you want to completely get rid of the missile's lock by maneuvering the aircraft, it only means that the performance of the missile tracking you is not outstanding.

With the continuous advancement of technology, the performance of missiles will definitely improve very quickly. The possibility of avoiding missile tracking by maneuvering alone will only become smaller and smaller.

In addition to relying on aircraft maneuvers, what we can do is to take different defensive measures against different missiles. As I said before, missiles can be guided by a variety of means such as radio, radar, and infrared.

Then, we can crack these guidance methods of the missile one by one, and mislead the missile to change its target or detonate prematurely through interference, releasing bait and other means.

As for the specific means, radio guidance should be considered the most primitive means. I can directly equip the aircraft with electromagnetic interference equipment.

When encountering radar-guided missiles, we can interfere with the missile's judgment by releasing more signal sources. For example, we can throw tinfoil behind the aircraft to create more radar reflection sources to deceive the missile and make it detonate prematurely.

As for infrared guidance, we can mislead the missile by emitting a heat source with a temperature similar to that of the aircraft's tail flame.

However, these are all deceptive means. Apart from these, do we have any means to fight back?

I have a hypothesis: when the enemy aircraft radar illuminates and locks onto our side, can we create a missile that specifically tracks the enemy's radar signal and attacks?

Of course, these are just some of my assumptions.

In fact, there is another method, which I think will be the most commonly used method in the future, which is to make our fighter jets have stealth capabilities.

Hehe... I see many people have already expressed an expression that I am talking about something that is out of this world. Please don't disbelieve me, the stealth performance I am talking about here is not invisible to the naked eye, but invisible to the radar.

And our Mr. Horton, during the war, made the HO229 and achieved this effect by accident, right? Mr. Horton.

Mr. Horton, who had been sitting there listening attentively, did not expect that this question would actually concern himself.

But he obviously knew about Fang Lang's problem. Although he didn't know why the HO229 made by his brother could do this, he understood that this situation did occur.

Therefore, he nodded affirmatively and said:

“Yes, although the HO229 we manufactured did not participate in actual combat, according to the feedback we received during the experiment, the radar reflection data of the HO229 is only 40% of that of ordinary fighter jets.

Unfortunately, we ourselves don’t know why this happens.”

Upon hearing this, everyone began to whisper to each other. People who had not participated in this project were completely unaware of this information, so now that Fang Lang had brought it up and Horton had confirmed it, it was the first time that everyone had heard of such a thing.

Everyone started talking about it, and Fang Lang had also come across some theories of invisibility in later life, but unfortunately he did not go into it in depth. He only knew that it seemed like a specific vertical shape could achieve a certain invisibility effect.

Then, some special material coatings have the property of absorbing radar waves, which can also make the aircraft invisible.

But he couldn't possibly speak of this knowledge in such a public occasion. His previous remarks on air force tactics and missile tactics could be considered his own speculations, but these technologies could not be speculated.

If I really tell it out loud, I might be caught and sliced into pieces for research.

Finally, after everyone finished discussing again, he continued:

"Okay, this gentleman's question just now has diverted our topic to the tactical thinking of missile defense. Let's get back to the main topic.

I think when jet fighters use air-to-air missiles for attack and defense, the performance indicators of the aircraft will inevitably revolve around this tactic.

We can classify the jet fighters of this period as second-generation jet fighters.

The purpose of our meeting here today is to allow everyone to have a clear understanding of the future second-generation jet fighter tactics, so that in future aircraft design work, we will have a clear direction and avoid detours.

What I need to remind you is that I don't want you to be too ambitious and go straight to designing the second-generation jet fighter. This is just to give you a direction. Eventually we still have to return to reality.

Start with the most basic first generation jet fighters to lay a good foundation.

The requirements that I want for the first-generation jet fighter have already been conveyed to Professor Kurt Tank. I hope that everyone here can work together and fully cooperate with the professor to complete the research and development of our first-generation jet fighter as soon as possible.

Do you have confidence? "

Upon hearing this, everyone in the conference room stood up and responded loudly:

"Yes! Yes! Yes!"

Seeing that everyone in the conference room seemed to be getting excited, Fang Lang nodded with satisfaction. As for the contents behind the second-generation fighter, Fang Lang did not say much, as he thought he would not be able to digest too much.

Revealing the second generation and the tactics that will be used in advance can be regarded as a leak of secrets, and it points out the direction for the designers of our own company.

If we continue to tell them that in the future there will be early warning aircraft that can guide missiles to attack the enemy beyond visual range, or that there will be air defense missile systems, it may be too much.

In fact, what Fang Lang said today was mainly to tell everyone that missiles are the direction of the future. Designers including Professor Kurt Tank have not yet gotten rid of the influence of close combat tactics.

Fang Lang must change everyone's mindset, otherwise the aircraft they design in the future may be outdated before they even come out.

This is something Fang Lang absolutely cannot accept.

In addition to missiles, there is also the use of radar on aircraft. I believe that after today's meeting, these designers will certainly attach great importance to the role of airborne radar. It also means that Kurt Tank's ta-183 design may have to undergo major changes.
