Chapter 260 Underestimating her
“It was the Huo family who made me do this,” the man said. “They gave me a sum of money to burn down that warehouse, and said they would send me abroad after it was done.”
"Who is it?" Fang Lanxin pressed, "Which member of the Huo family?"
“I don’t know his name.” The man shook his head. “But I’ve seen him. He was a man in his forties, very refined-looking, and wore glasses.”
A face immediately flashed into Fang Lanxin's mind.
Huo Mingxuan, the eldest son of the second branch of the Huo family.
When Fang Lanxin came out of the police station, it was already completely dark.
She sat in the car, her eyes closed, pondering what the man had just said.
Huo Mingxuan, the eldest son of the second branch of the Huo family, has always been in charge of finance at the Huo Group. He appears gentle and refined on the surface, but is actually a deep and thoughtful person.
But Fang Lan couldn't understand why Huo Mingxuan would do this.
What good would burning down the warehouse do him? Was it just to cause trouble for the Huo Group?
"Madam, where are we going now?" Beard asked.
"Let's go home." Fang Lanxin opened her eyes. "This matter needs to be considered carefully."
The car had barely driven a short distance from the police station when Fang Lanxin's phone rang again.
This time it was Guan Yu calling.
Fang Lanxin hesitated for a moment, but still answered: "What is it?"
"I've found it." Guan Yu's voice was icy: "It's Huo Mingxuan."
Fang Lanxin's heart sank; it really was him.
"What do you plan to do?" Guan Yu asked.
"What do you want to do?" Fang Lanxin asked in return.
"Cripple him." Guan Yu said bluntly, "Anyone who dares to touch my men will pay the price."
"Your people?" Fang Lanxin sneered, "Mr. Guan, get your facts straight, I am not your people."
Guan Yu was silent for a few seconds: "Whether you admit it or not, you are someone I need to protect."
"I don't need it," Fang Lanxin said, and was about to hang up.
"Wait a minute," Guan Erye called out to her, "Do you know that Huo Mingxuan has someone backing him?"
Fang Lanxin tightened her grip on her phone: "Who is it?"
"We can't find out yet," said Guan Erye. "But what we can be sure of is that Huo Mingxuan is just a pawn. The person who really wants to deal with you is someone else."
Fang Lanxin took a deep breath: "I understand."
After hanging up the phone, Fang Lanxin leaned back in her chair, feeling a slight headache.
It seems this matter is far more complicated than she imagined.
Back home, Fang Lanxin quickly washed up and lay down on the bed, but she couldn't calm her mind.
Who exactly is behind Huo Mingxuan? Why are they targeting her?
After much thought, Fang Lanxin felt that this matter was likely related to the power struggle within the Huo family.
Ever since she took over the Huo Group, there have been discontents within the Huo family, especially the second and third branches of the family, who have always wanted to wrest control of the Huo Group from her.
But for so many years she has suppressed them, preventing them from ever turning their lives around.
It now appears that they intend to force her to abdicate in this way.
Thinking of this, Fang Lanxin sneered.
That's quite a scheme.
The next morning, Fang Lanxin called Huo Qibang and asked him to convene a meeting of Huo Group's senior executives.
The Huo family members arrived one after another in the conference room, including Huo Mingxuan.
He looked no different from usual, still with that gentle and refined demeanor, and even nodded politely to Fang Lanxin.
Fang Lanxin ignored him and sat down in the main seat.
"I've called everyone here today to report two things," Fang Lanxin said bluntly. "First, the pipeline leak at the Huo Group has been investigated and found to be a deliberate act of sabotage. Second, the warehouse fire was also arson."
The moment the words were spoken, the meeting room erupted in chaos.
"What? Someone deliberately sabotaged it?"
"Who dares to be so bold?"
"No wonder there were two accidents in a row; it turns out someone was up to something."
Huo Mingxuan sat in his seat, his expression unchanged, but Fang Lanxin noticed that he gripped the pen with slightly increased force.
“The police have caught the arsonist,” Fang Lanxin continued. “He confessed that he was acting under orders.”
Huo Mingxuan looked up at Fang Lanxin and asked, "Sister-in-law, who is that person?"
Fang Lanxin stared at him and slowly said, "He said he's from the Huo family."
The meeting room fell silent instantly.
Everyone was stunned, staring at Fang Lanxin in disbelief.
"Sister-in-law, what do you mean by that?" Huo Mingxuan frowned. "Are you doubting us?"
“I didn’t say who it was,” Fang Lanxin said calmly. “But since that person said they were from the Huo family, then we should investigate them thoroughly.”
“That’s impossible.” The old lady of the second branch of the Huo family stood up: “How could anyone from our Huo family do such a thing? That person must be talking nonsense.”
"Whether it's nonsense or not, we'll find out by investigating." Fang Lanxin looked at Huo Qibang: "Abang, I'm leaving this matter to you. Make sure you get to the bottom of it."
"Okay." Huo Qibang nodded.
Huo Mingxuan's face was somewhat pale, but he still forced himself to say, "Sister-in-law, I don't think we can easily believe what an arsonist says. What if he's trying to sow discord?"
"Whether it's sowing discord or not, we'll find out once we investigate." Fang Lanxin looked at him coldly: "What do you have to be afraid of?"
Huo Mingxuan opened his mouth, but ultimately said nothing.
After the meeting, Huo Mingxuan hurriedly left the Huo Group.
Fang Lanxin had someone follow him, and sure enough, they found that he went to a teahouse and met with a middle-aged man.
Fang Lanxin didn't recognize the middle-aged man, but judging from Huo Mingxuan's respectful attitude towards him, this man's identity must be extraordinary.
"Find out who that person is," Fang Lanxin instructed Huo Wen.
Soon, Huo Wen found out: "President Fang, that person is called Wang Jianguo. He is a relative of the third branch of the Huo family and has a certain reputation in the business world. I heard that he has always had a good relationship with the second branch."
Fang Lanxin sneered: "As expected, it was them."
Just then, Fang Lanxin received a call from Guan Yu.
"I've found the person behind Huo Mingxuan," said Guan Yu. "Would you like to meet him?"
Fang Lanxin was taken aback: "You've already caught him?"
"Hmm." Guan Yu's tone carried a hint of smugness: "Don't you trust me to handle things?"
Fang Lanxin was silent for a few seconds: "Where?"
"An abandoned factory in the western suburbs," said Guan Yu. "I'll be waiting for you here."
Fang Lanxin hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided to go anyway.
She now needs to find out who is behind all of this.
As soon as Fang Lanxin's car stopped at the abandoned factory in the western suburbs, she saw Guan Erye standing at the door waiting for her.
"You're here?" Guan Erye walked over and tried to help her out of the carriage, but Fang Lanxin dodged him.
Guan Yu's hand froze in mid-air before he finally lowered it.
“The person is inside,” he said.
Fang Lanxin followed him into the factory and saw a man tied to a chair. It was Wang Jianguo, whom she had met at the teahouse during the day.
When Wang Jianguo saw Fang Lanxin, his face turned deathly pale: "President Fang, this is a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding."
"Misunderstanding?" Fang Lanxin sneered, "Then tell me, you ordered Huo Mingxuan to burn down my warehouse, and that's also a misunderstanding?"
"I didn't, I really didn't." Wang Jianguo shook his head desperately: "It was Huo Mingxuan who wanted to do it, it has nothing to do with me."
"Still being stubborn." Guan Erye walked over and kicked Wang Jianguo: "Tell me honestly, did you instigate this?"
Wang Jianguo screamed in pain as he was kicked, his face turning even uglier: "Mr. Guan, spare my life! I really didn't know!"
Looking at him like this, Fang Lanxin became even more certain that this person definitely knew something.
She walked over, squatted down in front of Wang Jianguo, and said coldly, "You'd better tell the truth, or you won't be leaving this room today."
Looking into Fang Lanxin's icy gaze, Wang Jianguo finally broke down: "I'll talk, I'll tell you everything."
Wang Jianguo stammered, "It was the old lady of the third branch of the Huo family who made me do this. She said that as long as I could ruin your position in the Huo Group, she would give me a large sum of money."
Fang Lanxin narrowed her eyes: "The third wife's old lady? Why would she do this?"
“Because she has always felt that the Huo Group should be managed by the Huo family, not by an outsider like you,” Wang Jianguo said. “She hates you for taking over the Huo Group from Old Master Huo back then, and she hates even more for how you have suppressed the Huo family all these years.”
