The room was quiet. Qin Yanzheng didn't hear Song Lan speak again for a long time and felt that the air around him was very stuffy.
Just as he was about to say something, Song Lan's calm and composed voice rang out: "Xiao Liu's reaction has begun to improve, and the same goes for his hearing."
"Thanks!"
Qin Yanzheng was genuinely happy for his younger sister. After he woke up, he learned that Xiao Liu, his youngest sister, had a fever during the night due to a family accident and was not taken to the hospital in time. As a result, after the fever subsided, she suffered from sequelae—her brain became somewhat sluggish and she lost hearing in one ear.
To be honest, he was filled with self-blame at the time, and he kept asking himself why he wasn't home... If he had been there, it would have been like having a pillar of support in the family. In that case, his mother might not have passed away, and his younger sister wouldn't have been delayed in getting to the hospital.
However, there are no "what ifs" in life, and besides, the nature of his job means he can't act freely in his daily life.
Therefore, in a sense, as the eldest son in the family, he felt guilty towards his family and also sorry to his wife, for making her shoulder the heavy burden of the family and the responsibility of teaching his younger siblings.
"You really like saying thank you that much?"
Song Lan suddenly spoke up.
Upon hearing this, Qin Yanzheng quickly said, "I didn't mean anything else. I just felt that you had worked hard and that without your excellent medical skills, Xiao Liu would probably never be able to truly be happy in her life, and my family and I would always live in guilt."
"Even so, do family members need to constantly say 'thank you'?"
Song Lan said, "This is the last time. If I hear this again, don't blame me for ignoring you." Her tone was unreadable, and Qin Yanzheng, being blind, naturally couldn't discern anything from her expression.
He opened his mouth, but a voice in his heart kept telling him to "give in," so he said whatever came to mind: "Don't be angry, it was my fault, I promise it won't happen again."
"Angry? Not at all."
Song Lan smiled gently. She knew the man couldn't see it, but she was in a good mood, yet she spoke in a light tone: "My greatest virtue is that I never let others upset me."
Since they were going to try to get along, this person was considered hers. It was only natural that she would occasionally "train" him in the days that followed, and it was by no means that she intended to make things difficult for him.
"Actually, when I say thank you, I really don't mean anything else, and I'm not thanking you as if you were a stranger."
Qin Yanzheng explained, his expression and tone equally serious.
Looking at the man, Song Lan knew she couldn't tease him any longer. The reason was simple: she was afraid he would get impatient.
Is it because you can't bear it?
Maybe so, no, she really couldn't bear to see him anxious!
Besides, he's injured. If things get worse, all her hard work in treating him will be for nothing.
"Okay, I'm not angry with you. I just want you to remember that you're not allowed to say 'thank you' to me again."
Hearing Song Lan's words, Qin Yanzheng's tense nerves finally relaxed, and a faint smile appeared on his lips: "No, there won't be a next time."
"Then you'd better keep your word."
Song Lan spoke with a smile.
Qin Yanzheng nodded: "Of course."
Wu Dong was very good at timing; he carried a foot bath into the room right after Song Lan finished giving Qin Yanzheng a massage.
"Did you buy this this afternoon?"
Song Lan's gaze fell on the foot bath basin. After hearing Wu Dong's affirmative answer, she said, "How much is it? I'll pay you all at once tomorrow."
"Need not."
Wu Dong shook his head. He placed the foot bath basin next to Qin Yanzheng's bed and helped him sit up. Before he could squat down next to the foot bath basin, Song Lan said, "Let me help Qin Yanzheng wash."
"This is my job."
Wu Dong refused, and then he said to Qin Yanzheng, "It's a little hot, but Comrade Song said it's necessary so that the medicinal herbs can fully exert their effects."
"That's absolutely right."
Song Lan ultimately failed to wash Qin Yanzheng's feet, but her expression remained unchanged, while Qin Yanzheng breathed a sigh of relief.
In his twenty-five years of life, apart from accidentally grabbing Song Lan's wrist before, he had never had close contact with other girls. If Song Lan were to wash his feet, Qin Yanzheng knew without a doubt that he would freeze up.
It's not rejection, it's discomfort, embarrassment, and awkwardness!
The injured leg was soaked for about thirty or forty minutes. Song Lan helped add hot water once in between. When the soaking time was up, Wu Dong helped Qin Yanzheng dry the water off his leg and then helped Qin Yanzheng sit up against the headboard.
"Let me massage you for a little while longer."
As the sound faded, Song Lan began to move.
"Do we need to administer acupuncture?"
Wu Dong poured out the foot bath water and returned. He looked at Song Lan and asked her a question.
"Um"
Song Lan nodded, then asked Wu Dong, "Are Xiao Wu and Xiao Liu asleep?"
"The room is dark, shall I go check it out?"
Wu Dong quickly left the room and returned shortly afterward, saying, "They're all asleep, and they're covered up."
Song Lan smiled and said, "I was worried they would go crazy without me watching them."
“Xiao Wu and Xiao Liu are very well-behaved. They know you’re busy, so they definitely won’t cause you any trouble.” As soon as Wu Dong finished speaking, Qin Yanzheng’s voice came out: “You spoil them too much.” He was undoubtedly saying this to Song Lan.
“I didn’t. Besides, they’re just four or five years old. It’s okay if they’re spoiled a little.” Song Lan’s tone was somewhat dismissive. “Moreover, the fifth and sixth kids are sensible. It’s only right to pamper them a little.”
Aren't you worried that they'll become spoiled when they grow up?
Qin Yanzheng asked.
Why worry?
Song Lan's tone was confident: "I believe that the children I raise are not the 'spoiled' children you mentioned."
They will learn martial arts from her, and she will also teach them chess, calligraphy, painting, and music theory. In the future, not only will the fifth and sixth children grow up to be outstanding, just like her Song family children, but the other two, namely her brother-in-law Qin Boyan and sister-in-law Qin Yaxin, will also undergo a complete transformation in two or three years.
In short, she believed in herself and in her husband's younger brother and sister-in-law, and believed that they would not let her down!
After all, in her opinion, there was no one she couldn't train!
After the massage, Song Lan went back to her room to get her needle kit. After disinfecting it, she asked Wu Dong to help Qin Yanzheng lie down on the bed, and then she performed acupuncture on Qin Yanzheng's injured leg.
With the gentle effect of internal force, Qin Yanzheng felt a warm current surprisingly coming from his injured leg, which had been completely numb before, during this very first acupuncture treatment.
This warm current feels so comfortable!
Qin Yanzheng was deeply moved, but he suppressed his emotions, knowing that Song Lan was administering acupuncture and there was no room for error.
"How do you feel?"
Song Lan suddenly asked.
"It's warm and comfortable."
Qin Yanzheng responded.
"Is she regaining consciousness?"
Wu Dong's eyes were filled with excitement.
Qin Yanzheng hummed in agreement.
"Comrade Song, now that Comrade Qin has regained consciousness, does that mean his leg will recover soon?"
Wu Dong asked Song Lan.
"This is only the first time I've used acupuncture."
