Chapter 28 Motivation

After all, jade cannot become a useful object without being carved.

If we let my sister-in-law Qin Yaxin speak recklessly and do whatever she wants, trouble will inevitably follow sooner or later!

Wu Dong heard the commotion in the living room from his room. He thought that everything Song Lan said to Qin Yaxin was correct, and he felt that Qin Yaxin was too willful. If Song Lan didn't control her, given Qin Yaxin's personality, she would probably cause trouble outside every now and then.

The house has two large rooms. One room is intended to be Song Lan and Qin Yanzheng's future bedroom, which is currently occupied by Song Lan alone. The other room is currently occupied by Qin Yanzheng, but Wu Dong's bed is also placed there.

Four of the five small rooms were used as bedrooms for Qin Boyan and his four siblings, while the remaining room was temporarily set up as a study by Song Lan.

"Sister-in-law, the hot water is ready."

Qin Boyan's voice suddenly came from the front yard into the living room.

"knew."

Song Lan responded, then said to the two younger ones beside her, "Come on, let's go to the bathroom. Your sister-in-law will give you a shower." Holding one in each hand, Song Lan said to the door of the living room, "Second brother, bring a bucket of hot water and a bucket of cold water to the bathroom. Remember to bring the water ladle."

The buckets and ladles were brought from home in Beijing. Actually, some pots, pans, and other utensils were also brought, but they were not loaded onto the vehicle because we were worried that they would break during the journey.

However, none of the items that were inconvenient to load into the car were simply left unattended. Instead, Song Lan instructed Qin Boyan and Qin Yaxin to pack them up and store them in a small courtyard owned by the Qin family in Beijing when they had some free time.

Well, to be more precise, that small courtyard belonged to Qin's mother. It was a property given to her by her family when she was still a young woman. It wasn't very big, but it had a good location and a good environment.

During her lifetime, Qin's mother frequently visited the small courtyard to recuperate.

The courtyard is elegantly decorated and planted with flowers and plants. It is quiet and serene, and to be honest, it is very comfortable to live there.

"Alright, Xiao Wu, go back to your room and rest."

After giving the adorable Qin Xiaowu a bath, Song Lan changed the little guy into short-sleeved pajamas and casually sent him out of the bathroom.

"I want to hear my sister-in-law tell me stories of fighting on the battlefield!"

Standing at the bathroom door, the adorable Qin Xiaowu hesitated to move, blinking his bright black eyes as he stared straight at Song Lan.

"I'll go over after my sister-in-law finishes washing Xiao Liu."

The four- or five-year-old children had no father, their mother had passed away, and their older siblings were still young and unreliable, which made the two younger children feel very insecure.

Recently, Qin Xiaowu and Qin Xiaoliu have noticed that their sister-in-law has become more approachable and often pats their heads. They have become increasingly attached to Song Lan, their sister-in-law.

Song Lan herself really likes cubs, so she would coax the two little ones to sleep before getting up to rest at night.

Song Lan remembers being coaxed to sleep by her mother when she was a child, so she is naturally no stranger to coaxing children to sleep.

She hummed nursery rhymes and told stories of her and other soldiers fighting the enemy on the battlefield.

Having personally experienced the battles, Song Lan couldn't help but recall the scenes as she spoke, which unconsciously revealed her genuine emotions, captivating the two children.

It's past 8:30 PM.

"Sister-in-law."

That's Qin Boyan's voice.

"Um?"

Song Lan had just come out of her sister-in-law Qin Yaxuan's room when she heard her brother-in-law Qin Boyan's voice. She couldn't help but look up at him and ask, "Is something wrong?"

"Little Five and Little Six are all grown up now, you don't need to put them to sleep anymore, that will make things easier for you."

He didn't want to judge how his sister-in-law was before, but ever since she suddenly seemed like a different person, in Qin Boyan's eyes, she had never been idle.

She's busy with household chores and worrying about their future. If this continues, her health might not be able to keep up.

When the eldest brother wakes up and finds out, who knows what he'll say about his younger siblings.

"She's only four or five years old, still very young!"

Song Lan smiled and said, "Go and rest. Sister-in-law, don't you feel tired?"

Qin Boyan pursed his lips, remaining motionless for a long time.

"My fifth and sixth children are well-behaved and sensible. I just tell them stories before bed. How tiring is that?"

Song Lan shook her head helplessly and changed the subject: "Tomorrow at noon we'll go to town to buy necessities for the family. I'll also ask Director Zhang about finding you a school. If everything goes smoothly, we'll go to school to register the day after tomorrow. Once school officially starts, you'd better study hard!"

"Is it mandatory to go to school?"

Qin Boyan frowned.

"What do you want to do if you don't go to school?" Song Lan's smile faded. She said, "With a high school diploma, it will be easier to find a job, and your chances of getting into a university will be higher when they start admitting students again."

"I...I want to go to the countryside!"

Qin Boyan didn't dare look Song Lan in the eye. Hearing what he said, Song Lan frowned: "Didn't we already talk about this? Why are you bringing it up again now?"

"You can't learn anything at school."

Sitting in the classroom, he spends most of the day playing around, and he really doesn't want to waste money!

"Can't learn anything?"

Song Lan's expression turned cold: "Is the teacher not teaching properly?"

"No."

Qin Boyan shook his head. He remained silent for a moment before speaking, "It's not that the teacher isn't teaching well; it's just that most of the students in the class don't listen." Actually, it's not just one class that's like this; the overall learning atmosphere at the school isn't very good.

"Since it's not that the teacher isn't teaching properly, why do you care what the other students in the class do? As long as you listen attentively in class and live up to your family's original intention of sending you to school, that's enough. Can't you do that?"

Qin Boyan was speechless for a moment when Song Lan stared at him without hesitation.

"What you learn is yours, and no one can take it away from you. I was even thinking that you would have time to teach me the knowledge from the high school textbooks after school starts. I hope my second brother won't let me down!"

Although she retained the original owner's memories, and Song Lan had completely integrated those memories, she was still from ancient times and her knowledge system was ultimately different. Therefore, she planned to read through all the textbooks from elementary to high school in this world to achieve a true understanding.

Furthermore, the original owner only graduated from junior high school and vocational school; in other words, she had not systematically studied high school knowledge.

Song Lan is very interested in university. She wants to take the college entrance examination in the future and study Western medicine at a medical university.

In her previous world, surgery, especially opening up the abdomen and skull to remove lesions, was something she had never heard of before.

"...Does my sister-in-law want to study high school textbooks?"

Qin Boyan was slightly surprised.

"There's a saying that 'knowledge is wealth.' I want to learn more, which is never a bad thing, right, second brother?"

Song Lan's gaze was earnest and focused. When their eyes met, Qin Boyan nodded involuntarily: "Yes."

"Would my second brother be willing to teach me?"

Song Lan asked.

My grades in school were average.

The implication was that he was afraid he wouldn't be able to teach well.

"Even if you're just average, you're definitely better than me. After all, you're about to become a proper high school student, while I only graduated from junior high school. As for the knowledge in high school textbooks, I'm not completely clueless, but I certainly can't compare to you."
