"Sister-in-law, we should go now."
Qin Boyan spoke up at the opportune moment, raising an eyebrow at Zhou Shiyang before taking the suitcase from Qin Yaqing's hands and saying goodbye to Li Qiu: "Goodbye, Comrade Li!"
"goodbye!"
Li Qiu responded.
Song Lan glanced at Qin Yaqing and said, "Let's go."
"Um."
Qin Yaqing nodded and walked alongside Song Lan, following behind Qin Boyan. After walking a few meters, Qin Boyan turned back to look at Zhou Shiyang and smiled, "Goodbye, Comrade Zhou!"
Before Zhou Shiyang could react, he had already looked away and continued walking forward.
Watching Qin Boyan, Song Lan, and Qin Yaqing walk away, Zhou Shiyang suddenly smiled, as if talking to himself, or perhaps to Li Qiu: "It seems I still have hope!"
He felt that Qin Boyan's willingness to say goodbye meant that he didn't dislike him becoming his future brother-in-law.
"You're so optimistic!"
Li Qiu chuckled and then said, "But in my opinion, your road to winning back your wife is long and arduous. You might regret it for the rest of your life. After all, Ya Qing has already left Qiao Xingtun, and she is so beautiful and gentle. When she returns home, she will definitely have no shortage of suitors."
Zhou Shiyang said with a serious face, "Comrade Li Qiu, you've gone too far. No matter what, we're all educated youth from the same educated youth compound. How can you be so harsh on your own comrade?"
Li Qiu, however, was not afraid at all. Instead, she laughed and said, "Why can't you listen to the truth? Why don't you think about it yourself? With Ya Qing's looks and personality, plus the fact that she will have a formal job after she goes back, how could any of the unmarried men around her not be tempted?"
After a long silence, Zhou Shiyang asked solemnly, "Did she leave you her home address?"
Li Qiu: "If you keep it, what do you want from it?"
"show me."
Zhou Shiyang extended his hand.
Li Qiu hesitated for a moment, then took out the piece of paper with Song Lan's contact information and home address that she had left in her pocket. Before she could hand it to Zhou Shiyang, he took it from her.
He memorized it all after just one glance.
After returning the paper to Li Qiu, Zhou Shiyang walked towards the educated youth compound. Seeing Li Qiu standing there without moving, he remarked, "Is it comfortable standing there in the breeze?"
"You still haven't told me what you meant by what you just said!"
Li Qiu glared at the other person and hurriedly followed.
Zhou Shiyang did not respond.
What could he possibly mean? He just wanted to call home and try to get a job at the Hongxing Machinery Factory, that's all.
That way, there won't be any opportunists who think they can take advantage of their proximity and try to steal his girlfriend away.
-
Walking to the town, Song Lan and her two companions managed to complete all the formalities before the educated youth office and police station closed, but they missed the last bus to the county seat.
There was no other way but to find a guesthouse to stay in for the night, and the next day I would go from Tiger Town to the county seat, then take a bus to the city, and finally go to the train station to buy a ticket back to the Red Star Machinery Factory.
To Song Lan's surprise, she saw Liu Feng as soon as she stepped out of the guesthouse the next morning.
"Brother Liu, you..."
Liu Feng stood beside the jeep. Seeing the surprise and helplessness in Song Lan's eyes, he smiled and walked over, saying:
“I have acquaintances at the town police station. I called them before I left work yesterday to ask if there was a former educated youth named Qin who was handling household registration transfer procedures. After receiving confirmation, I figured you would definitely stay in town for the night, so I got up early this morning and drove you there.”
"So how did you find it?"
Song Lan asked.
“There are only two guesthouses in town. I inquired at the reception desk of the other one, but I couldn’t find any information about your stay. So you can only stay at this guesthouse.”
Liu Feng explained.
"Thanks a lot!"
Song Lan looked embarrassed: "I did say that taking the shuttle bus is very convenient, but you still drove all the way here to drop us off. To be honest, I feel really bad about it."
"Look at what you're saying! Yesterday you took the pulse of everyone in my family, which is a very important matter for our health. And every prescription you gave was excellent. My parents and my wife have said they owe you a huge favor!"
His wife works as a nurse at the local hospital. Coincidentally, her uncle is a doctor at the same hospital, and his traditional Chinese medicine skills are quite good. Yesterday afternoon...
The uncle came to visit his niece, his wife, and happened to see the prescriptions. He then casually took the pulses of his parents and wife, and kept praising them.
He kept saying that each prescription was wonderfully written, and even said that with his medical skills, he could not have written such good prescriptions.
Based on the idea that having more friends means having more options, Liu Feng made a decision yesterday after returning to his post from Qiaoxingtun, without needing much advice from Liu Zhiyuan and his wife, and immediately drove Song Lan to the city train station.
There is no train station in the county town; people here have to go to the city to take the train to other parts of the country.
"We're all on the same side, Brother Liu, please don't say anything about owing us a favor."
Song Lan smiled and shook her head.
"Alright, alright, I won't say anything more." Opening the car door, Liu Feng looked at Qin Boyan and Qin Yaqing: "Get in the car."
Qin Boyan didn't stand on ceremony. He thanked Qin Yaqing and the two got into the back seat.
Song Lan was then invited by Liu Feng to sit in the passenger seat.
"Tiger Town is about forty kilometers from the city. Going back and forth will probably delay your work a lot."
"I recently finished a mission that lasted for more than two months. When I returned to my post, the leaders gave us time off to make adjustments. I'm still on holiday today, so it won't affect my work. You don't need to worry."
