On New Year's Eve, Song Lan got up more than half an hour earlier than usual. She moved very quietly, so the rest of the family did not know what time she got up. They only knew that when they walked out of their room, they were told that breakfast was ready.
However, Qin Boyan, Qin Yaxin, and their two children continued their daily routine as usual.
For example, do some exercise before having breakfast.
During the time Qin Yaqing was at home, she followed Song Lan's advice and trained with Qin Boyan and the others, which was basically learning simple martial arts.
"Comrade Song, thank you!"
Carrying a bulging travel bag that Song Lan had packed for him, along with his own luggage, Wu Dong thanked Song Lan with exceptional sincerity before getting into the jeep.
He thanked Song Lan for the things she prepared for his family, and for getting up early to prepare food for him to eat on the train. In short, Wu Dong was truly grateful for Song Lan's thoughtfulness.
"Do I need to be polite with you?!"
Song Lan smiled and said, "Hurry up and get in the car. When you get there, remember to call us to let us know you've arrived safely, and also give our regards to your uncle and aunt for me and Qin Yanzheng."
"I will."
Wu Dong nodded.
Watching her get into the car, Song Lan waved. After the car started and drove away, Song Lan looked away, turned around and walked into the courtyard gate.
"Sister-in-law, I'm going to work."
That's Qin Yaqing's voice.
"Okay, go ahead."
Song Lan nodded slightly. She went back inside to tidy up a bit, picked up her bag and slung it over her shoulder. She went to the living room and said to Qin Boyan and Qin Yaxin, "Since we still have time at noon, take a look at what you need to bring back to our home in Beijing. But don't bring a lot of big and small bags. Your brother's car can't fit them all."
"I don't have anything to bring."
I only had three days to travel back to Beijing, so apart from what I was wearing, I didn't need to bring anything else.
Qin Boyan made a statement.
The two little ones said in unison, "Sister-in-law, I don't have anything to bring either."
Qin Yaqing was left out. She thought for a moment and said, "I'll just bring the new clothes you bought for me."
"Okay, I understand."
Song Lan smiled and said, "I'll try to prepare lunch as soon as I get off work at noon, so that we can head back to Beijing after we eat. If we get there earlier, we can also help Dad with some housework. We can't just go back and wait for Dad to feed us."
"Don't worry, sister-in-law. When we get back to Beijing, I promise Dad will just sit and enjoy himself. He won't have to do anything else."
Qin Boyan said with a grin.
"I'll let Dad sit down and enjoy himself too!"
The adorable little fifth child happily echoed his second brother.
The soft-spoken little girl smiled and said, "Me too, sister-in-law. I work with my second brother and younger brother so that Dad won't have to lift a finger."
"You all talk so much, do you think I'm just trying to be lazy and good-for-nothing?"
Qin Yaxin said this on purpose, she was teasing her. She snorted, straightened her back, and raised her chin arrogantly: "I am Dad's good daughter, it is only right that Dad enjoys the blessings of having a daughter like me!"
Upon hearing this, Qin Boyan and the two little ones all gave a strange "oh" in unison.
"What do you mean? Are you looking down on me?"
Qin Yaxin stomped her foot.
Qin Boyan and the two little ones shook their heads in unison.
Song Lan smiled and shook her head: "Alright, you guys play by yourselves, I have to go to work." With a wave of her hand, she walked out of the living room.
...
The staff hospital of the machinery factory.
Around 11:30 a.m., after seeing a patient, Song Lan saw nurse Wang Ping walk into the examination room and asked, "You don't seem to be in a good mood. Is something difficult going on?"
"No."
Wang Ping shook her head and said, "I just feel a little uncomfortable thinking about having to work half a day."
Upon hearing this, Song Lan laughed: "It's only half a day, is it really that big of a deal?!"
"How could it not be? I've been looking forward to the New Year, but you don't have to come to the hospital this afternoon, while I still have to stay at my post. It makes me unhappy."
Wang Ping hummed in response.
Seeing the other person's sullen expression, Song Lan said with a smile, "I took half a day off, which means I'll lose half a day's pay. If you're willing, you can talk to the director about it."
"That won't do."
Wang Ping said, "I need to get full attendance bonus. If I take half a day off, not only will my salary be reduced, but my full attendance bonus will also be lost. I would be heartbroken."
"Since you know the truth in your heart, are you throwing a tantrum now just to get me to coax you?"
Song Lan tidied up the medical records on the consultation table, rested her chin on one hand, and raised an eyebrow at the other person.
"Why don't you say a few more sweet words to me? I love listening to you talk, okay?"
Wang Ping leaned closer, her smile incredibly bright. Unexpectedly, Song Lan pressed her index finger against Wang Ping's forehead and pushed her back slightly, curving her lips into a smile. She said, "We can talk, but we can't stand this close. Otherwise, my husband Qin might get jealous."
"You care that much about your spouse?"
Wang Ping asked with great interest.
"Why wouldn't I care? We're husband and wife. I care about him, and he cares about me. Isn't that normal?!"
Song Lan's "Aren't you making a big fuss over nothing?" attitude made Wang Ping feel uncomfortable for a moment. She touched her nose and chuckled awkwardly, "I was just ignorant. Please don't be angry with me!"
"I'm not that petty."
Song Lan smiled and asked, "Didn't your family think about finding you a partner during the Spring Festival?"
"How could I not want to?!"
Thinking about the blind dates her family has been arranging for her recently, Wang Ping is overwhelmed. She said, "Not to mention anything else, just this month alone, I've already been on three blind dates arranged by my family. You wouldn't believe it, they're all so bizarre, they treat me like I'm stupid!"
"Could it be that you're being too picky and nitpicking?"
Song Lan joked.
"I know my own limitations, so how could I possibly hope to climb up to someone with better conditions?"
Wang Ping pouted, her tone listless: "Let me put it this way, the first guy I met this month, when we talked alone, he immediately asked me to hand over all my salary to his mother, saying that his father died early and his mother raised him with difficulty, and that since I'm marrying him, I should follow his example and give his mother every penny of my salary to keep."
I retorted to him, "Aren't you afraid of biting off more than you can chew? Why don't you go take a piss and look at yourself in the mirror? Where do you get the nerve to say such self-righteous things to me?" And that's how my conversation with that big-faced guy ended badly.
The second blind date was even more presumptuous. He immediately asked me to give up my job to his family, saying that once I married into the family, I should stay at home and take care of the whole family, keeping the house in perfect order.
He's truly oblivious to his own ugliness. Not only is he shorter than me, but he also has a bulbous nose; just looking at him is an eyesore. So, after he finished speaking, I just rolled my eyes and walked away, not wanting to waste a single word on him.
