Song Lan asked with a smile.
Qin Yanzheng: "During my university years, one of my roommates and I learned some traditional Chinese massage techniques from our elders. Once, after we finished physical training, we were all quite tired, so that classmate massaged each of us in the dormitory for a while. To be honest, we all felt that the massage was very effective."
"If the massage technique is right, it can really relieve physical fatigue."
With a smile in her eyes, Song Lan relaxed completely, enjoying the man's service. She suddenly asked, "After Comrade Chen and the others left this afternoon, when you asked Dad that question, did you have something in mind?"
Upon hearing this, Qin Yanzheng paused in his actions and said, "You mean I should ask Dad if he knows that old man Wang Changping?"
Song Lan hummed in agreement.
"I just feel that what Comrade Chen said was a bit of a coincidence. Although there are many people in this world who are not related by blood, live in different places, and look alike, the moment Comrade Chen came to our house and saw Dad,
I felt that Dad looked about six or seven parts like an old man he knew in their compound. They even said that if that old man, Mr. Wang, were twenty or thirty years younger, the resemblance between Dad and him would probably be eighty or ninety percent. So, I couldn't help but overthink it.
Qin Yanzheng's tone was calm and indifferent. After listening to his explanation, Song Lan asked again, "Did Dad really never mention Grandfather in front of you siblings?"
"No."
After thinking carefully for a moment, Qin Yanzheng shook his head and said, "I have never met my grandparents since I can remember. I asked my dad when I was young, but he talked about my grandmother the most. As for my grandfather, he only mentioned that he had passed away when I was young. And that was what my grandmother told my dad."
After pondering for a moment, Song Lan said, "In other words, Dad may never have met Grandfather, and therefore has no memory of him."
"Perhaps."
Qin Yanzheng said, "My intuition tells me that there should be some kind of connection between my father and that old man Wang, but my father denied it today, which means that even if the two know each other, my father does not want to mention the other at home."
“Then let’s respect Dad’s wishes and not mention Old Master Wang at home anymore.”
Song Lan said softly, "Dad has you children, and he will have many grandchildren in the future. He will never lack relatives in his life."
"you're right."
Qin Yanzheng's clear and magnetic voice was tinged with amusement: "I can tell that in Dad's heart, you, his daughter-in-law, are much more important than us, his children. To be honest, every time I see Dad's loving smile towards you, I can't help but feel a little jealous!"
"Are you really that petty?"
Song Lan laughed out loud: "The main reason Dad is good to me is simply because I'm your wife. Do you have to be so petty and jealous over that?"
“I am Dad’s best son, he should treat me the best.”
Qin Yanzheng said this on purpose. Upon hearing this, Song Lan raised an eyebrow: "Really? You mean Dad shouldn't be too good to me, and that in Dad's heart, I shouldn't be as important as you siblings?"
"..."
Looking in the dressing mirror at his wife's upturned eyebrows, Qin Yanzheng, though already feeling a sense of crisis, still wanted to tease her. He said, "Don't misunderstand, I didn't mean that."
"I think that's exactly what you're thinking, Qin Yanzheng. I'm angry, and I'm the kind of person you can't appease."
Song Lan pretended to be unhappy; her face turned cold almost instantly.
"No, honey, please don't be angry. I was just teasing you! You're more important to Dad than me. I'm overjoyed, how could I possibly be jealous over something like this?!"
Moreover, the reason Dad treats you well, and why you hold a higher place in his heart than I, the eldest son, is because you are a good daughter-in-law and a good sister-in-law. Unlike me, as the eldest son in the family, I wasn't there for Dad, my younger siblings, and this family when they needed me most.
On this point alone, Dad treats you better than I do, which means I don't hold as much weight in Dad's heart as you do, so I have no right to complain.
Qin Yanzheng spoke earnestly. After listening to what he said, and seeing his particularly serious expression in the dressing mirror, Song Lan finally couldn't help but chuckle softly, "Just kidding, no need to take it seriously."
Unexpectedly, as she finished speaking, Qin Yanzheng also let out a low laugh and said, "I know."
"why are you laughing?"
Song Lan was puzzled.
Was I laughing?
Suppressing his laughter, Qin Yanzheng pretended to be serious. He cleared his throat and said, "You misheard me, I wasn't laughing."
"There's nothing wrong with my ears."
Song Lan replied.
"Then tell me what your husband is laughing about?"
Qin Yanzheng smiled, his eyes gentle and doting, and asked a question in return.
How would I know?
Looking at the man in the mirror, Song Lan rolled her eyes at him.
"Want to know? Don't you want to know?"
Qin Yanzheng went to the bathroom to put away the towel. When he returned, he was combing Song Lan's long hair with a comb in his hand. He said, "I feel so lucky to have met you. I'm so glad that my wife is talented, beautiful, kind-hearted, humble, and genuinely cares for me and my family. Thinking of all this, thinking of how good you are to me, I couldn't help but..."
Song Lan's face was flushed at this moment, and she gave the man a coquettish look: "Am I as good as you say?"
"You are a thousand times, ten thousand times better than I said!"
Qin Yanzheng smoothed Song Lan's long hair, and the next moment, he placed the comb on the dressing table, then reached out and scooped her up in his arms.
"Put me down!"
Song Lan tried to break free.
Qin Yanzheng didn't give her that chance. He carried her to the bedside and said softly, "Wife, the night is too short, we should rest!"
"How can I rest while you're holding me like this? Let go, Qin Yanzheng, can't you hear me? Qin Yanzheng, um..."
Before Song Lan could finish speaking, the man kissed her red lips, and they both fell onto the soft and comfortable bed.
-
The next day.
The lunch break passed quickly. Song Lan, Qin Yanzheng, and Qin Yaqing had lunch with Qin's father. After Qin's father rested until about 1:30 pm before going to work, the group loaded the things Qin's father had asked them to take into the car. Then, with reluctance, they drove back to the Hongxing Machinery Factory.
As evening approached, the car slowly drove into the old residential area of the machinery factory.
As soon as they entered the house, Qin Yaqing, Qin Boyan, and Qin Yaxin started getting busy without Song Lan even having to tell them what to do.
Clean the house inside and out, wipe down wardrobes, tables and chairs, wash pots and pans in the kitchen, and turn the heater back on.
Even the two little ones were busy, vying to do whatever chores they could.
Everyone in the house was busy and organized, and in less than half an hour, the house near the machinery factory was back to its lively state it was before the Lunar New Year.
"It's the weekend in three days. I don't know if we'll be able to get a normal rest then. If we are, let's go back to the village to wish my parents a Happy New Year. Also..."
The family had a quick dinner, and it was already around eight o'clock in the evening. As husband and wife, Song Lan and Qin Yanzheng naturally stayed together.
