Feng Yuanyuan's eyes were filled with curiosity.
"Of course there are."
Song Lan smiled and said, "He not only goes into the kitchen to wash the dishes, but also cooks for his family."
Not only was Feng Yuanyuan surprised, but even Li Jumei couldn't help but exclaim in surprise: "My son-in-law can cook?"
"Mom, your son-in-law's cooking is pretty good!"
Song Lan's fair and delicate face was full of smiles: "When you and your dad come to my place later, if Qin Yanzheng is home, I'll have him show you what he can do."
"Want to show off your skills?"
Li Jumei was somewhat skeptical: "Is it really as good as you say?"
"certainly."
Song Lan responded with a smile.
"Okay, your dad and I will try Yanzheng's cooking later."
At this point, Li Jumei recalled what had happened in the village a couple of days ago and couldn't help but mention it to Song Lan and Feng Yuanyuan:
“That Yuan, the educated youth from our village’s educated youth compound, has gotten into trouble again. This time she probably won’t be able to escape it and will most likely have to marry Gousheng, the lazy bum from our village.”
Feng Yuanyuan didn't quite understand what her mother-in-law Li Jumei meant by "again," but Song Lan had a guess. She asked, "What exactly happened?"
Li Jumei: "Just yesterday at lunchtime, Yuan Zhiqing went to the river to wash clothes by herself with a basin. It was lunchtime and there was no one else by the river. As a result, Yuan Zhiqing somehow fell into the river."
Gousheng and his friends happened to be strolling back from town when they heard someone shouting for help by the river. They immediately ran to rescue the person, but Yuan Zhiqing had swallowed too much water. By the time Gousheng swam over, Yuan had already fallen unconscious and was sinking into the water.
During the dragging process, Yuan Zhiqing's coat was washed away by the water, and the clothes he was wearing underneath were also in disarray. After Gousheng dragged him ashore, someone suggested pressing on his chest and performing artificial respiration so that Yuan Zhiqing could be rescued.
Gou Sheng did as instructed, and Yuan Zhiqing vomited a lot of water and woke up, but soon fell into a coma again.
When the brigade leader arrived at the riverbank, he quickly sent someone to take Yuan Zhiqing to the town clinic. She still hasn't returned to the village, and the gossipy women in our village are saying all sorts of things.
Feng Yuanyuan: "Could it be that that educated youth, Yuan, was set up by someone?"
"I don't know."
Li Jumei shook her head.
"Mom, what do you think of that 'dog-leftover' guy you mentioned?"
Song Lan asked.
"Gousheng and Ergouzi are pretty much the same; they're both notorious lazybones in our village. When their parents were alive, they favored their youngest son because he was good-looking and had a sweet tongue, and they spoiled him from a young age."
Two years ago, the elderly couple passed away one after the other, leaving only the two brothers, Gou Sheng and Gou Sheng. However, Gou Sheng's older brother was ten years older than him and had already married and had children.
Knowing that his younger brother was spoiled by his parents and couldn't do anything right and would eat everything, Gousheng's older brother invited the brigade leader and the party secretary to his home and separated the family from Gousheng.
Right now, Gou Sheng lives alone in his old house, doesn't work, and spends his days aimlessly wandering around. He and his older brother's family are like enemies.
When Song Lan heard Li Jumei say this, she said, "I think what my sister-in-law said is probably very true. That educated youth Yuan was very likely framed. I just don't know if the person who framed her and the person who saved her are directly related."
"I'm not saying this to be mean, but those young people in the educated youth compound don't work properly all day; they just cause trouble. About two weeks ago, one of the female educated youths who came to our village this year almost fell into a trap that someone dug when she went up the mountain to collect firewood."
Fortunately, the trap wasn't very deep, and it looked like it had been abandoned for a long time. There wasn't anything harmful inside, which is why no one died.
But when Zheng, the educated youth, was rescued, one of his feet was swollen like a steamed bun.
It is said that for several days in a row, he was awakened by nightmares at night.
"Those educated youth were mostly junior or senior high school graduates. They should have been educated and reasonable, so why did they like to cause trouble?"
Feng Yuanyuan frowned slightly, finding it hard to understand what the educated youth at the Youth Academy were thinking. They had come to receive re-education from the poor and lower-middle peasants, but instead of settling down and doing their jobs, they had to create trouble for everyone to gossip about.
What about manners?
How many educated youths came to our village this year?
Song Lan suddenly asked.
"Seven or eight..."
Li Jumei thought for a while but still couldn't come up with an answer. She couldn't help but look at Song Sanhe. Receiving her gaze, Song Sanhe said, "Eight."
"That's not right, I remember there were seven."
After thinking about it carefully, Li Jumei shook her head and said, "It's true that there are seven people who take the oxcart to the village."
Song Sanhe explained: "There was one who didn't ride in the oxcart, surnamed Zhao, a male educated youth from Beijing, who arrived with Chen that day."
"So that's how it is."
Li Jumei realized that there was a male educated youth surnamed Zhao from Beijing in the educated youth compound.
Song Lan asked casually, "Mom, what's the name of that Zheng educated youth you mentioned?"
The female lead's surname seems to be Zhao, and her given name is something like Zhao?
After thinking for a while, Song Lan came up with a name—Zheng Qiuwen.
"I think her name is Qiuwen. Yes, that's the name. I heard the female educated youth in the educated youth compound call Zheng educated youth 'Qiuwen' when I was at work."
Li Jumei's tone was devoid of emotion: "Speaking of which, Zheng Zhiqing's eyebrows and eyes look somewhat like yours, but she's not as pretty as my daughter."
Li Jumei's second half of the sentence clearly revealed her pride.
Song Lan laughed out loud: "Mom, you can't praise your own daughter like that."
Feng Yuanyuan: "Little sister, Mom is just telling the truth. You are naturally beautiful, and I believe no one in our village would disagree with that."
"Sister-in-law..."
Song Lan glanced at Feng Yuanyuan, a hint of unease showing in her beautiful eyes.
“Little sister, you don’t need to be like this. I’m just telling the truth. If you don’t believe me, you can go to the village and ask any auntie or grandma.”
