Chapter 333

After working until half past twelve, the Lin family started eating.

Zhang Jiao made braised fish, stir-fried pork belly with potato slices, steamed egg custard, stir-fried spicy and sour potato shreds, stir-fried Chinese cabbage, and a seaweed egg drop soup.

This meal is considered quite sumptuous.

Of course such delicious food had to be paired with wine. Lin Yongnian took out the wine left over from Lin Jianshe’s wedding and drank a few glasses with his father-in-law and son Lin Guodong.

Father Zhang drank and ate meat at the same time. He picked up two slices of pork belly with chopsticks and stuffed them into his mouth.

Zhang's mother was not willing to show weakness. She used the chopsticks to eat pork belly and braised fish.

After 5 minutes, there was very little pork belly left, and more than half of the braised fish was gone, but there was still a lot of spicy and sour potato shreds and stir-fried cabbage.

Lin Yongnian's eyes twitched as he watched, thinking that Zhang Jiao's parents were too particular. How could they visit their son-in-law's house and only focus on eating meat?

It really feels like I have never eaten meat in my life.

Seeing them eating like this, Lin Guodong's expression became a little unhappy.

He flipped it with his chopsticks, leaving only potato slices and pork belly stir-fried with potato slices. He frowned and asked Zhang Jiao, "Did you buy some pork belly this morning? How come this is all you can stir-fry? This is more than enough for us to eat."

Zhang Jiao glanced at her mother and said truthfully, "Mom said cutting it in half would be enough, so she didn't cut it."

Lin Guodong glared at her and said, "You only ate one piece and it's gone. How can there be enough to eat after you finish cooking? How come you don't have any idea at all? What the hell is in your head?"

Zhang Jiao: “…”

When Zhang's mother heard what Lin Guodong said to her daughter, she said, "Indeed, I let Jiaojiao use the cut ones..."

"Mom, if you said you'd use it all up, you'd definitely be polite and say you didn't want us to spend money," Lin Guodong interrupted his mother-in-law. "But how could Zhang Jiao not be aware of this? We only bought one piece of pork belly, which is barely enough for our family of four."

"You and Dad love to eat meat, but you came to celebrate Junjun's birthday, and Zhang Jiao only made half of the pork belly. How can this be unreasonable?"

"It was so hard for my parents to come and celebrate Junjun's birthday, but you didn't even let them eat a piece of meat. You bought a piece of meat and left half of it and didn't want to cut it. I almost want to scold you." Lin Guodong looked at Zhang Jiao speechlessly.

Zhang Jiao: “…”

Zhang Jiao felt very aggrieved by what Lin Guodong said, but she had no way to refute it. She could always say that her mother wanted to take the meat home for her brother and nephew to eat, so she asked her to finish it, right?

Zhang's father said, "It's okay, Guodong. Your mother and I have finished eating meat."

Lin Guodong sneered in his heart, half of the pork belly had basically gone into their mouths, so of course they enjoyed it.

"You are really picky. You pick your nose like this even when your own parents are here." Lin Guodong pointed at Zhang Jiao's nose and said.

He seemed to be talking about Zhang Jiao, but actually he was talking about her parents!

I came to celebrate my grandson's birthday, so I brought a box of biscuits worth fifty cents.

When the meal is ready, just focus on eating the meat, and don't care whether your grandson who is celebrating his birthday gets to eat it or not.

How can you be a parent-in-law like this?

Really stingy to death.

Zhang's father and mother figured something out and their expressions changed.

Lin Guodong called her "Jiaojiao" in front of them. Was he referring to "Jiaojiao" in any way?

It's clearly about talking nonsense about them and slapping them in the face.

Lin Yongnian looked at his in-laws and said, "Okay, don't talk about it. Today is Junjun's birthday and Zhang Jiao's suffering. Guodong, please don't talk about her."

Zhang Jiao pouted in grievance.

She also wanted to finish cooking the meat. Today was Junjun's birth, and it was her suffering. When she gave birth to Junjun, she was in pain for a whole day before she gave birth to him.

Lin Guodong really didn't feel sorry for her at all. He even scolded her in front of her parents for her suffering, not giving her any face at all.

Lin Guodong glanced at Zhang Jiao and stopped talking to her. With a stern face, he picked out the bones from the remaining good meat on the braised fish and put it into his son's bowl.

The meal was then eaten in silence. Lin Yongnian tried to liven up the atmosphere twice, but failed, so he gave up.

After dinner, Zhang Jiao collected the dishes and went to the kitchen to wash them, and Zhang's mother followed her into the kitchen.

After Zhang Jiao finished washing, she stood by and watched.

"Your sister-in-law's birthday is next week. Although your family won't hold the celebration for her, don't forget to go home when you have a rest and buy her a set of clothes." Mother Zhang looked at her daughter and reminded her.

Zhang Jiao frowned and said, "Why should you buy her clothes? Ever since she married into our family, she and my second sister-in-law have celebrated their birthdays every year. You asked me to buy them clothes, but I only bought them shoes. They've never bought me anything for my birthday."

Before Bian got married, when she was a girl in the Bian family, her two sisters-in-law never bought anything for her.

Mother Zhang sighed and said, "It's the same. They are your sisters-in-law. They are older than you. It's their birthday, so of course you, as their sister-in-law, have to show your appreciation."

"Where is Junjun? He's still looking after his younger generation. Since Junjun's birthday is today, how are they going to buy him a pair of shoes and some clothes?"

"When Dabao and Erbao celebrated their birthdays, as their aunt, I never missed out on gifts."

Thinking about the birthdays of her two sisters-in-law and two nephews, she bought a lot of gifts, but when it came to herself and her son, there was nothing. Zhang Jiao felt that this was too unfair.

Moreover, she had paid so much. She had previously gone back to her parents' home with Lin Guodong and Junjun to stay for two days. Her two sisters-in-law were sneering at her and making veiled remarks to drive her away.

Because of this incident, Zhang Jiao decided to buy gifts for her sisters-in-law this time.

"You're such a fool." Mother Zhang poked her daughter's forehead. "I asked you to buy gifts for your nephew and sister-in-law. I did it to get you on good terms with them. If you do, you'll have to be nicer when you go back to your parents' home."

"Do I need their consent to go back to my parents' home? Do I need to please them?" Zhang Jiao asked with wide eyes.

That's her home!

Zhang's mother said as a matter of course: "Of course, although you and your father are still alive, you are now the home of your two brothers and two sisters-in-law."

"...Mom, what you mean by this is that if my sister-in-law wants me to go back to her parents' home, and if I go back, will you and dad kick me out?" Zhang Jiao asked hurt.

Mother Zhang said, "That's not the case, but we must consider the opinions of your two sisters-in-law. After all, you and your father will have to rely on them to provide for us in our old age."
