Chapter 14 Oh no, I've already caused you trouble as soon as I arrived.

“I live alone in the east wing. I’m used to living alone. You and your younger brother can live in the west wing. There are two beds in these two rooms. You can allocate them yourselves. There are also bedding and other things available, but they need to be aired out before use. I’ll get them out for you and you can set them off yourself. I’m going out for a bit and will be back in a little while.”

After handing the two sets of bedding to Lin Wei, Lin Xiaomeng quickly left the courtyard.

Lin Wei knew what Lin Xiaomeng was going to do. Her father's death was such a big event that no one had informed her. She would definitely ask acquaintances for information after she found out.

Sure enough, a phone call was made to Uncle Liu.

Upon hearing that it was Lin Xiaomeng calling, Uncle Liu immediately hung up and found a public phone booth to call back.

"Xiaomeng, Weiwei is with you now, right?"

"Yes, Brother Liu, did you know she was coming to see me? And what exactly happened to my brother? Such a big thing and no one notified me. It's outrageous that I buried him before I even got back."

Uncle Liu didn't say anything, and after a while he asked, "Is there anyone next to you?"

Lin Xiaomeng was confused, but the siblings had brought luggage with them when they arrived. The neighbors already thought they were there to occupy the house. If they made a phone call from the convenience store and someone heard that her brother was dead, the rumors from earlier would be confirmed.

So she made the call from a public phone booth outside.

"Nobody's here. I'm using a public phone. Brother Liu, what exactly happened? Weiwei's explanation was unclear. All I know is that she came to me to save Yuanyuan's life. Is it really that serious? Could the children be overthinking things?"

"I didn't think much of it, it's all true." Uncle Liu sighed heavily.

"Don't blame those two kids. Ni Fang arranged everything for your brother. I told her I would inform you, but she scolded me as soon as I opened my mouth. If it weren't for the fact that there was no one to bury Dongliang, she would have kicked me out on the spot."

Uncle Liu realized that Lin Wei hadn't told him much, so he simply said, "I can't say more here, and you'd better not ask too many questions. But please tell Weiwei when you get back that something big has happened to Ni Qingguo's mother-in-law's family. They probably won't remember them for a while, but who knows? Tell them to be careful. I'll call her if anything happens."

After saying that, Uncle Liu hung up the phone.

Lin Xiaomeng already had many doubts, and now she was even more confused.

She had a gut feeling that something was going on, but she also knew that neither Uncle Liu nor Lin Wei would tell her about it.

Lin Xiaomeng was a little angry, but when she returned to the courtyard, she saw an even more infuriating scene.

Xiao Wang, who had just argued with her, blocked her doorway and got into another argument with someone.

"Neighbors, come and see! This girl has gone too far. What kind of things is she saying? A college student, huh? Is there any college student with such poor manners? Which school do you go to? I'm going to file a complaint against you."

"Don't try to scare me with complaints. I'm upright and honest, and I'm not afraid to make a big deal out of it. You're upset because you just lost money, and you're coming after me since my aunt isn't here, right? You scolded my aunt for hanging out the quilts outside, and now you scold me for hanging out the quilts at home. What, do you really think my family is easy to bully? You're always looking for trouble, aren't you?"

“Everyone should judge this by reason. I was drying my quilts in my aunt’s yard, and the gate was closed properly. This guy took advantage of my aunt’s absence and craned his neck to look inside from outside the yard, while saying some frivolous things to me.”

"Oh, I see. You're not upset because you lost money earlier, you're just trying to act like a scoundrel, aren't you?"

"We shouldn't have just taken the money and let it go. We should have locked you up, you scoundrel. Look how familiar you were with this. Did you peek at several young girls hanging out their blankets to dry in the yard?"

Lin Wei kept talking, and Xiao Wang couldn't get a word in edgewise.

Instead, he blushed and his neck turned red under the enlightened gazes of the crowd.

"I didn't, don't talk nonsense, don't listen to her nonsense," Xiao Wang hurriedly explained.

"I'm talking nonsense? If I were talking nonsense, why would you be blushing? You're clearly feeling guilty because I hit the nail on the head."

"Actually, I've seen Xiao Wang sneaking around in other people's yards several times. At first, I just thought he was trying to steal something..." After all, that's his image. "But I never expected... oh dear."

When the neighbor on the left reminded them, everyone suddenly realized what was going on.

"Sigh, I've encountered that before too."

"I've encountered that too."

"Xiao Wang, we're colleagues and neighbors, we see each other all the time. If you keep acting like this, we won't be able to get along."

"Exactly, I never thought you were this kind of person. It seems the courtyard wall wasn't built high enough."

Lin Xiaomeng squeezed into the crowd and glared at Xiao Wang. "It's no use raising it. I had someone raise my courtyard wall before. I thought it was safe, but now I realize that apart from making it inconvenient to dry my bedding, anyone who wants to can see everything."

"Sister Meng, it's a misunderstanding, it's all a misunderstanding, the little girl is overthinking it."

"Let's put aside whether it's a misunderstanding or not. My niece is going to study in Jiangcheng, and she'll be coming to visit me quite often. My family will have a young lady in the future. If you continue to think like that, don't blame us for really making things difficult for you."

Under the scrutinizing gazes of the crowd, the commotion outside the courtyard subsided once more.

After entering the house, Lin Wei asked in confusion, "Aunt, why didn't you take him inside? This person clearly isn't the first time he's caused you trouble."

“Sending him in was useless and only made things worse,” Lin Xiaomeng explained. “His uncle is the deputy director of the neighboring No. 3 Cotton Mill. For minor incidents like this, he would only be detained for a few days or even not detained at all if the offense wasn’t serious. But after he got out, he didn’t wait at all and went straight back to retaliate.”

Lin Xiaomeng also felt a headache when talking about Xiao Wang, saying, "People like that are shameless and afraid of nothing."

"But you mentioned earlier that it was called the security team..."

"That's because he already has two disciplinary records. If he gets one more, he'll be fired. He was fired from the cotton mill before he came to our factory. He's worried about being scolded by his uncle, but if he gets fired, won't he become even more reckless?"

Lin Wei understood. "Oh no, Auntie, I've already caused you trouble as soon as I arrived."

"It's nothing, it's not a big deal. Almost every family in this area has had a quarrel with him. There's nothing we can do about it, we're just unlucky to have such a neighbor."

Perhaps because Xiao Wang had been put in a bad mood, almost every neighbor who returned home had a smile on their face.

Especially the one on the left.

"Oh my, you guys didn't see it. Xiaomeng's niece is really something. She wasn't intimidated at all when she faced off against Xiao Wang. Her mouth was like... spitting out razor blades. Xiao Wang couldn't even fight back."

"Hey, you know what, if my little niece lived here, Sister Meng would suffer so much less."

"And that Xiao Wang, I was in the yard just now, and what he said... was really explicit, I was embarrassed to listen. I thought the girl would be embarrassed after hearing it, and I was about to scold her a bit, but then the girl's mouth..."
