The two walked into the living room. Li Chu poured Wu Xiaoliu a glass of water first, and then told him what had just happened.
After listening to Li Chu's words, Wu Xiaoliu remained silent. Instead, he picked up the strip of cloth on the coffee table, examined it, smelled it, and held it up to himself.
"This is the fabric from the sleeve; that person must have been bitten on the wrist as well."
Li Chu suddenly realized that this person had been bitten by Xiao Hei, so there was a high chance that he had contracted rabies.
His dog, Xiao Hei, has never been vaccinated, and there aren't any vaccines available for dogs right now. Although some people use rabies vaccines, it's likely that person won't go to the hospital to get one because they probably don't even know that being bitten by a dog could lead to rabies.
Shouldn't we say that there's a high probability this person will die if they go back?
"Xiao Chu, have you offended anyone?" Wu Xiaoliu asked, looking at the silent Li Chu.
Li Chu shook his head slightly: "I'm just a doctor, I usually work at the hospital, I don't remember offending anyone."
"That's strange. According to what you said, when you came out of the hospital and were walking on the main road, you felt that someone was following you. That means that this person must have planned it. He may have been waiting for you near the hospital all along."
Moreover, this person was probably just following you and didn't intend to harm you, at least not just now. Otherwise, it would have been the perfect opportunity to strike, given how dark the alley was and the fact that you were carrying two children.
After listening to Wu Xiaoliu's analysis, Li Chu nodded. What he said did make sense.
Wu Xiaoliu continued, "Based on this analysis, the person following you should also be acting on someone else's orders. This person is responsible for tracking your movements, and another person should come looking for you later."
"By the way, Xiao Chu, why are you back so late? Where's your wife?"
"Well, these past two days have been a special case..." Li Chu explained the reason to him.
"That means you only started coming home late yesterday. Before, you would come home with your wife and kids at the normal time after get off work in the afternoon."
"Yes, barring any unforeseen circumstances, my schedule is almost always the same each day."
Wu Xiaoliu thought for a moment and said, "How about this, you arrange a house for me, and I'll stay here for two days."
Li Chu breathed a sigh of relief. It was best that Wu Xiaoliu was willing to stay here.
If he were alone, he wouldn't be afraid of this happening at all, but now he has a wife and children, and he can't help but worry about their safety.
He couldn't possibly take such good care of everything by himself, but now that Wu Xiaoliu is helping, he feels much more at ease.
"Thank you so much, Sixth Brother."
"We're all brothers, don't be so polite."
As he spoke, Wu Xiaoliu pointed to the gun in Li Chu's hand: "This gun won't have any problems, will it?"
Li Chu shook his head: "It's alright, this gun doesn't have a serial number, and there's no information about it!"
He turned off the safety lock and handed it over.
After taking the gun, Wu Xiaoliu glanced at it casually, then handed it back to Li Chu, saying, "It's best to avoid using guns. Once a gun goes off, it becomes a big case, and I don't see you intending to report it to the authorities."
Li Chu has no intention of calling the police at the moment. The enemy is in the dark while he is in the light; calling the police would easily alert them.
Ding Qiunan has been staying at the hospital these past two days and hasn't left. Tomorrow, he wants to leave the child at the hospital as well, or have Aunt Wang take the child home so he can do some things by himself.
The two chatted for a while longer. Li Chu then took out bedding, made up the bed in the west wing, and let him go to sleep.
Li Chu lay on the bed in the bedroom, wide awake, looking at her two sleeping children with great anxiety.
I don't know when I finally fell asleep, but when I opened my eyes again, it was already daylight outside.
Li Chu, lying in bed, heard noises in the courtyard and knew that Wu Xiaoliu must have gotten up.
After getting up and dressing, I went to the yard and saw Wu Xiaoliu practicing some kind of boxing.
Li Chu didn't disturb him. He stood to the side and performed the Five Animal Frolics once. When he stopped, Wu Xiaoliu was standing there watching him.
"Xiao Chu, what are you doing? It looks a bit like some animal movements."
Sweating profusely, Li Chu said as he took off his shirt, "That's right, it's the movements of several animals. This is a set of health-preserving movements passed down from our traditional Chinese medicine. It can't be used in actual combat, but it can exercise the body."
"Wow, I didn't realize you'd been working out so well. You're so fit." Wu Xiaoliu exclaimed, looking at Li Chu's upper body.
"I can't compare to you, Sixth Brother." Wu Xiaoliu wasn't wearing a shirt when he was boxing earlier. He's the type who looks thin when dressed but muscular when undressed.
"We're different here, okay? You're a doctor, it's already quite impressive that you're so physically fit. We train every day in the army."
I'll call Ziwen later and ask him to help me ask for a few days off. I'll stay here and not go out for the next few days.
Wu Xiaoliu told Li Chu about his plans.
Li Chu thought for a moment and said, "I'll call him and tell him not to tell my sister for now."
After saying that, Li Chu took a clean shirt from the clothesline in the yard, put it on, and went to the kitchen to get a small pot, preparing to go out to buy breakfast.
"Sixth Brother, the towels and toothbrushes in your bathroom are all new, feel free to use them. I'm going out to buy some breakfast for us, how many steamed buns do you want?"
Sword Comes
Five will do.
When Li Chu went out to buy food, he deliberately observed the surroundings but didn't find anything.
There weren't many people on the road early in the morning, and the people coming and going, even if they didn't know each other, all looked friendly. If there were a stranger in the vicinity so early, someone would have noticed them long ago.
After finishing breakfast and getting the two children ready to play in the yard, Li Chu called his sister's house.
My brother-in-law answered the phone.
"Brother-in-law, it's me, Xiao Chu. Is my sister here?"
"Your sister just left. She dropped Jia Yuan off at school this morning. She left early. Do you need to see her?"
It couldn't be more appropriate if Li Qin wasn't home.
"I was looking for you, brother-in-law. Are you at the government office today, or at the bureau?"
"I'm going to the station later, what can I do for you, Xiao Chu?"
"I'll talk about my matter when we meet. Please ask for a few days off for Xiao Liu. He's with me now. I called him over last night."
After listening to Li Chu's words, Wang Ziwen remained silent for a while, wanting to ask but not asking, as there were many things that couldn't be said over the phone: "Okay, I'll wait for you in the office later. I'll ask for leave for Xiao Liu."
After dropping the two children off at the daycare, Li Chu first went to the clinic. Ding Qiunan hadn't slept there that day.
He then went to the outpatient hall, and upon entering, he saw Ding Qiunan cleaning the traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy.
Li Chu walked over and called her out of the window.
