Chapter 102 Fear

The men inside stood up and went outside, preparing to go home.

Now that the baby was born safely, they were relieved. Everyone gathered together in case something unexpected happened, so they could help each other out.

Now that everything's alright, those old women can stay as they are.

Li Chu returned the child to the old man, but the child was a little unhappy and the old man held and coaxed him for a while.

Ding Qiunan returned home shortly after arriving, her face deathly pale.

It seems the force of childbirth just now frightened the girl; hopefully, it won't leave any psychological trauma.

Li Chu pulled the girl into his arms and sat her on the sofa, kissing her cheek. He didn't say anything, just quietly held her.

It took the girl a while to come to her senses. She looked at Li Chu with her big eyes, a hint of fear in them.

"Li Chu, I...I'm a little scared."

"Don't worry, I'm here," Li Chu said softly, patting the girl's back.

"I'm a little scared of having children, what should I do?" Ding Qiunan looked at him pitifully.

Li Chu smiled slightly: "If we're afraid, we won't have any more children. We won't have any more kids, just the two of us."

"That won't do. How can a woman not have children?"

"You're scared, so let's just not have it. That way, if we have a child later, it won't bother us." Let's calm the girl down first.

"No, I must have your child." The girl pressed her face against Li Chu's chest and said firmly.

"I believe that once I have my own child, I will no longer be afraid."

After saying that, the girl jumped off Li Chu's lap.

"What are you doing?" Li Chu asked as the girl got down to the ground.

"I'll get some brown sugar for Sister Qin so she can mix it with water and drink it." With that, the girl ran to the kitchen to get the brown sugar.

He wrapped it in paper and brought it out: "Sister Qin's baby is less than a month old, weighing only a little over four pounds, less than five. Auntie San says the baby is too small to raise easily. Li Chu, do you have any ideas?"

Li Chu spread his hands and said, "There's nothing I can do about it. I can only say that I'll have to rely on breast milk to slowly raise her."

As she spoke, the thought involuntarily crossed her mind. Qin Huairu's milk supply was so plentiful, the child shouldn't go hungry.

Then he thought of his wife's large food supply, wondering if the children wouldn't be able to finish it all, and he could at least get some food himself.

He was thinking about it, and even smacked his lips.

Ding Qiunan didn't notice Li Chu's actions. Seeing that her husband was also at a loss, she didn't ask any further questions. Instead, she said, "Never mind then, I'll take the brown sugar to Sister Qin first. I'll be right back." With that, the girl lifted the curtain and went out.

Even after the girls had left, Li Chu's mind kept flashing back to her vast granary.

He shook his head, as if trying to shake these things out of his mind.

Sigh, I find my self-control getting worse and worse whenever I'm with my wife.

The next morning, after Ding Qiunan left for work, Li Chu picked up the cloth bag that was on the living room floor.

The bag contained cigarettes and alcohol for Ding's father, along with several canned goods. He planned to deliver them today and also mention the move during the National Day holiday, inviting his father-in-law's family to come over for a meal that day.

Siluke

Li Chu didn't stop there; he took the patient there and then rushed back. Although the hospital wasn't taking care of him anymore, he still had to go there every day except Thursdays, sometimes for a whole day, sometimes for half a day.

When Li Chu returned to the courtyard after get off work in the afternoon, he learned that Aunt Jia had gone to the factory to find the leaders that morning.

Whether it was an old man's idea or the factory's original plan, the matter was resolved perfectly.

Qin Huairu will start working at the factory next April, but she will be an apprentice at the beginning. She will be officially hired after passing the assessment at the end of the year.

They also gave her family 500 yuan in compensation. They also issued a letter of introduction, which would allow Qin Huairu to return to her hometown and transfer her household registration.

Once their household registration is transferred, plus that 500 yuan, their family's life will be better for a while.

It's a big company after all; they handle things quite generously.

During dinner that evening, Li Chu told Ding Qiunan about this.

After hearing this, the young woman was happy for Qin Huairu. After finishing her meal, she didn't even bother to clean up the dishes; she went straight to the central courtyard to see Qin Huairu and the child.

After tidying up, Li Chu strolled out and chatted with the people in the courtyard, sitting down at the gate.

That night, Li Chu lay in bed while Ding Qiunan sat beside him, chattering away about Qin Huairu's family.

Having already given birth to two children, Qin Huairu, who just gave birth last night, is already running around everywhere today. Except for not leaving the house, she has started doing all the housework and even made her own lunch.

Li Chu was astonished. Good heavens, this thing is incredibly resilient.

No wonder people say that in the past, women could go back to work the day after giving birth; it seems to be true.

After visiting Qin Huairu and the child, the girl's expression no longer showed the fear she had shown the night before.

He seemed quite excited today, constantly talking about the child, which made Li Chu a little impatient.

He sat up straight and pulled the girl into his arms. What's the point of just talking about other people's children? Why don't we just have one of our own to play with?

————————

In the past few days, Li Chu and Ding Qiunan have been slowly moving a lot of scattered items over.

The beds in the new house have already been made up.

Everyone in the courtyard knew that Li Chu and Ding Qiunan were moving out.

Lou Xiao'e, who lives in the backyard, is quite reluctant to see Ding Qiunan move away.

Lou Xiao'e was completely out of place in this courtyard. She barely spoke to anyone there, except for Ding Qiunan, with whom she could chat. Now, her only conversation partner was moving away.

Sitting on Li Chu's sofa, Lou Xiao'e held Ding Qiunan's hand, her eyes red.

The girl comforted her, saying, "Oh, Xiao'e, don't be sad. It's not far from here. You know the place. If you miss me, just come and see me. I'll come back to see you often."

The two sat on the sofa and whispered to each other. Soon, Lou Xiao'e's happy laughter could be heard.

Li Chu sat at the door of Uncle San's house, chatting casually with Uncle San.

"Uncle, I still have some loose coal in my little coal shed. Could you have Jie Cheng shovel it into my house later?"

"How can that be? You won't need coal if you move there!" Yan Bugui was secretly overjoyed, but he still refused out loud.

“I’ve already bought everything there, and there’s not much left, so you can use it directly. After I move out, you can keep an eye on the house for me whenever you have time, and let me know if anything happens at the hospital.”

The old man thought about it for a moment. Looking at the house wasn't a big deal; there were only two opposite doors, and anyone coming in or out could see it. Plus, he got so much coal for free. Li Chu was a good man; it was a pity he was moving away.

Nodding in agreement, he said, "Alright then, I won't stand on ceremony. Thank you, Xiao Chu."

"Don't be so polite, Uncle. You know about my new house, so come visit me anytime."

The third uncle sat there grinning from ear to ear; he had gotten a good deal again, so how could he not be happy?

Li Chu didn't get up and go home until Lou Xiao'e left.
