Chapter 678 Foreign Exchange

"Brother Chu, let's deal with the immediate problem first. Can you find someone to exchange it for US dollars?"

How much are you planning to exchange?

"The old man gave me ten thousand today." Xu Damao patted the satchel he was carrying.

"Didn't you ask those people who do this privately?"

"I asked, how could I not ask? Most people only exchange for 800 or 900. There was one who could exchange for 1200, but he wanted me to pay first. How could that be possible?"

Indeed, this sounds suspicious. The black market has its own prices, and they won't give you random quotes. That one is obviously much higher, so it's probably a scam.

How much do you want to exchange?

"I was wondering why they haven't exchanged it for a thousand yet?"

Actually, if you could get the slip of paper and exchange it at the Bank of China, you could get much more. The problem is that the slip of paper is hard to come by, and even if you could get it, you could only exchange it for a maximum of two hundred US dollars, which is not enough for anything.

Li Chu hesitated for a moment before saying, "How about this, Da Mao, give me the money, and come back tomorrow. I'll give you 1,200."

"Huh? No, Brother Chu, although I want to exchange as much as possible, I can't let you lose out, can I?"

"Alright, give me the money, I'll figure something out for you."

"I'm serious. We're friends, but I can't let you lose out. This price isn't available on the market right now. Where are you going to get it from?"

"What do you care where I change from? Just hurry up."

Xu Damao hesitated for a long time, then shook his head: "Brother Chu, it's true that I came to ask you for help, but I really can't let you suffer a loss."

It's really hard to find someone who can exchange 10,000 for 1,200 these days; otherwise, given Xu Damao's connections from running the restaurant over the past two years, he wouldn't have been unable to do so.

The most he could find was 1,100, and even then, he would have to wait a month. He simply didn't have the time to wait.

"Don't worry, I won't suffer any losses. Why are you, a grown man, being so fussy?"

When "Brother Chu" was called fussy, Xu Damao said with a wry smile, "Well then, I won't say anything more. I'll give you the money, you just need to give me 1,100, I don't want any more."

"Hey, I've never seen anyone push money away like this before!"

"It's not that I'm pushing money out; I know there's simply no price available right now."

Li Chu nodded: "To be honest with you, just because you can't get it doesn't mean I can't. I definitely won't add anything to it even if I give you 1200. Hurry up and give it to me, I have something to do later, otherwise I'll just leave it at that."

Seeing that he was indeed getting impatient, Xu Damao then prepared to take out money from his bag.

"Brother Chu, are you just going to keep it like this?"

? ? ?

Li Chu was stunned for a moment, and then he realized when he saw the corner of the bag sticking out that there was a bundle of ten thousand yuan. If he carried it around the hospital like that, it would probably spread throughout half of Beijing in less than ten minutes.

"Wait a minute." He quickly stopped Xu Damao's actions, and then said to Liu Dazhuang, who was standing to the side, "Dazhuang, go to the hall and find a newspaper."

After the newspaper arrived, he wrapped the bundle of money in the newspaper and then tucked it under his arm.

"Alright, you can go back now. Come find me tomorrow morning."

"Okay, thanks, Brother Chu."

Li Chu waved his hand and then walked towards the administration building at the back.

He didn't really have anywhere to exchange money, and as for connections outside, he didn't know many people in society.

If he goes through the proper channels, he can only get a few hundred dollars at most.

The reason he accepted the money was because the US dollars he had given to his wife last time were still at home.

My Healing Game

He figured that since his own family hardly needed them anyway, he might as well replace some for Xu Damao.

The price he mentioned was indeed a fair price; it wasn't exactly a bargain.

When he threw the bundle of money in front of his wife that evening, she was startled again.

"Where did you come from? What have you been doing?" Ding Qiunan's voice trembled.

"Don't get excited, honey. This is Xu Damao's money," Li Chu quickly explained.

"Xu Damao's? How did his money end up with you?" Ding Qiunan's voice finally returned to normal. She was terrified when she saw the money, fearing that her husband had done something shady again.

"He wanted to exchange some US dollars, but they're all around 800 or 900 dollars on the market right now, which is a bit of a rip-off. I figured we still had some at home, so I agreed to help him exchange some."

"Phew~" Ding Qiunan let out a long breath, then she raised her hand and slapped her man's arm.

"Couldn't you have explained this to me beforehand? Suddenly throwing so much money in front of me, are you just trying to scare me?"

To be honest, Li Chu really did have a mischievous streak, which is why he did that on purpose.

But he can't admit it. If he says I did it on purpose, he's definitely doomed.

"No, no, no, I really didn't think that way. I was just about to say something when you asked first."

"Hmph~" Ding Qiunan rolled her eyes at him and turned her head away, ignoring him.

There was nothing Li Chu could do but sit by the bed and coax her for a while before she was able to get the matter off the hook.

This was truly a case of shooting oneself in the foot; he couldn't help but curse himself inwardly.

"How much money should we exchange for him?"

"Twelve hundred will do."

Ding Qiunan, who had just received the bundle of money, paused upon hearing this and asked hesitantly, "Isn't it a bit too little?"

"No," Li Chu leaned against the headboard and waved his hand. "He simply can't find this price outside. The black market price is basically around nine hundred now."

"Oh, okay then."

After listening to her husband's words, Ding Qiunan nodded, stepped over him, and got off the bed.

She was about to withdraw money when she remembered something, stopped what she was doing, turned to look at her husband, and gave him a meaningful look with her eyes.

Li Chu looked at his wife with some confusion: "What?"

"Behave yourself, I need to withdraw some money, please leave for a moment."

"No, you can withdraw money if you want, why do you need me to leave?"

"I've hidden my money in a secret. Do you think you could tell me where it is?"

This really made Li Chu both laugh and cry; it turned out they were even wary of him.

He wanted to put up a fight, but seeing the look in his wife's eyes, he smacked his lips and obediently put on his slippers, opened the bedroom door, and went out.

"Okay, I'll go out and won't look at where you hide your money, alright?"

Seeing her husband leave, Ding Qiunan smiled, though she was just joking. The bedroom was so small, where else could she hide the money? It was probably in the wardrobe.

She counted out twelve bills from the stack of US dollars her man had given her last time, then stuffed the rest, along with the ten thousand dollars, back into the tuck before calling him in.

Here, count them.

"Just count whatever I want, that's all." Li Chu took the money and casually tossed it onto the bedside table.
