Li Chu took the bag containing the child's things and the canned food from the back seat, and then took out the little black car from the passenger seat.
The two little owners were taken away, and Xiao Hei was already anxiously leaning against the car window, barking.
"Brother Meng, come in and sit for a while before you leave."
"I won't go in. Who knows what might be going on with the boss? What time should I come pick you up this afternoon?"
Li Chu thought for a moment and said, "Let's have lunch first."
Zhang Meng nodded: "Okay, I'm leaving. You can go in now."
After watching Zhang Meng back out of the alley and onto the main road, Li Chu waved goodbye to him.
Inside the house, Ding's father, who had been playing chess at the neighbor's house, had already returned.
She was beaming with joy as she held her eldest grandson.
Ding Jianguo also came closer to Ding's father to look at his nephew, repeatedly telling him to call him uncle, but Wenxuan glanced at him and then turned his head away.
When she saw her father come in, she opened her arms, wanting him to hug her. If he didn't hug her, she was prepared to cry.
"This child is still a bit shy around strangers." Having no other option, Li Chu had to take the child from Ding's father.
"It's normal for little kids to be shy around strangers. This is good, no one can take my grandson away, right? Right, Xuanxuan?"
Ding's father sat down next to Li Chu and continued to play with his grandson.
After being held by his father, Wenxuan became noticeably more lively, looking at his grandfather and making "ah ah ah" sounds that others couldn't understand.
Wenhui was much more obedient, sitting quietly in her grandmother's lap and sucking her fingers.
"Nannan, do you usually help your child grow taller?" Ding's mother asked, remembering this.
"Shun ge zi? What does that mean?" Ding Qiunan was a little confused by her mother's question.
"Oh, just put the child on the bed and let him lie down, then use both hands to gently stroke him down from his shoulders, and bring his legs together. If you do this, the child will feel comfortable and won't move around."
Why do it this way?
"If things go smoothly like this every day, the child will grow tall and their legs will straighten, instead of developing bowlegs."
"Mom, does this really make you grow taller? What's the scientific basis for that?" Ding Qiunan said, both amused and exasperated.
Ding's mother raised her hand and slapped her arm: "You and your brother were both raised this way by me, and that's how all the older folks do it. Now you want scientific reasoning from me? I'll explain it to you scientifically first."
Not satisfied with just one slap, Ding's mother slapped her again.
"Mom, I was wrong, I was wrong!" It was hot, so Ding Qiunan was only wearing a shirt. Her mother hit her hard, and she quickly stood up and moved away, rubbing her slapped arm.
"That brat has grown up now, she doesn't even listen to me anymore," Aunt Ding said angrily, looking at her.
"Mom, Qiu Nan might not have noticed, but Aunt Wang does this for the child every day when she's home," Li Chu quickly interjected when he saw his wife being beaten.
Since her son-in-law had spoken, Ding's mother couldn't say anything more. She glared at Ding Qiunan and turned her head back, saying, "Just do it for the child. This method has been passed down from generation to generation. As for whether it works or not, who knows? We'll just listen and do it for peace of mind."
"Yes, Mom, you're right. We still need you to teach us how to take care of children. You've taught Qiu Nan and Jianguo so well. There are so many things that Qiu Nan and I don't know." Li Chu's flattery was incredibly blatant.
"You think you've taught her well?" Ding's mother glared at Ding Qiunan. "I think she's a complete waste. She's only lucky to have met you, Xiao Chu. If she were in someone else's family, she would probably have been returned long ago."
"Mom, what are you saying?" Ding Qiunan was a little unhappy about being talked about like this by her own mother.
"I don't even want to talk to you." Ding's mother turned her head and looked at Li Chu with a smile, asking, "Little Chu, what do you want to eat for lunch? Mom will make it for you."
"Mom, let's have noodles for lunch. The noodles you make are so chewy, I love them."
"Okay, I'll make it for you in a bit." After saying that, Ding Ma carried Wen Hui to Li Chu and switched Wen Xuan with her.
"Mom, why don't you ask me what I want to eat?" Ding Qiunan was getting a little anxious when her mother didn't ask her anything.
"Just eat whatever you're made for. What, do you want to eat dragon meat?" Ding's mother didn't tolerate her and directly confronted her.
"Haha," Ding Jianguo laughed out loud, thinking to himself: Why does my sister seem dumber after giving birth? She even dares to talk back to Mom. Just wait and see how Mom deals with you.
Feeling laughed at by her younger brother, Ding Qiunan had no interest in paying attention to him and instead turned her head to look around.
She had a strange feeling that she had come to the wrong place. This didn't feel like her own mother's house, but rather like the house of those wicked mothers-in-law that others talked about.
"Nannan, what are you looking at?" After a long silence, Ding's father finally asked when he saw his daughter looking around aimlessly.
"Let me see if I've come to the wrong place." Ding Qiunan blurted out her thoughts, only realizing her mistake after she finished speaking, but it was too late to cover her mouth.
She hurriedly ran to Li Chu's other side and took Wen Hui from him, using her daughter as a shield.
Sure enough, Ding's mother was about to make a move when she saw her holding the child in her arms, so she held back.
When Ding's father heard his daughter say such nonsensical things, he shook his head and ignored her.
Ding Qiunan squeezed down next to Li Chu and sat down, looking at her man with a pitiful expression.
Li Chu quietly squeezed his wife's hand and whispered in her ear, "Go along with Mom, don't talk back. I'll tell you why later."
He estimated that his mother-in-law was likely going through menopause, but that was no big deal; he just needed to be more accommodating.
Ding's mother herself couldn't understand why she suddenly felt like getting angry lately, as if nothing was right in front of her.
She didn't stay in the house anymore; she took Wenxuan and went out to visit other people's homes.
Wenxuan has gotten used to it in half a day and is well-behaved when his grandmother holds him.
After Ding's mother left, Ding Qiunan asked, "Li Chu, what's wrong with my mother? She's never been so angry before!"
Ding Jianguo continued, "That's right, I don't know what's wrong with Mom lately. If I say something that doesn't suit her, she'll punish me."
Mr. Ding didn't say anything, but he looked at his son-in-law.
"It's nothing, I guess she's going through menopause. I'll take her pulse later and prescribe some medicine for her. Jianguo, try to be more agreeable to your mother at home and don't argue with her."
Ding Jianguo said with a mournful face, "Brother-in-law, you'd better get Mom cured quickly. You have no idea what kind of life Dad and I have been going through lately."
Hearing his brother-in-law's words, Li Chu smiled and said, "Dad, Jianguo, my mother's condition will probably continue for a while. Even if I prescribe medicine for her, it will only be a slow and gradual treatment, and it won't have an immediate effect."
As soon as he finished speaking, Ding's father and Ding Jianguo's faces fell.
"Sigh," the father and son sighed simultaneously.
Ding's father took his granddaughter from Ding Qiunan's arms and went out to visit other people's homes.
