Chapter Ninety-Six: Talking About Things

"Be obedient?" Aunt Wang pointed to Ding Qiunan's belly next to her: "What did you promise me during the Spring Festival this year, huh? You promised that I could hold my grand-nephew next year. And now? It's already August, don't tell me you can conjure one up for me by the end of the year."

Hearing Aunt Wang's words, the three of them visibly breathed a sigh of relief.

Uncle Wang shook his head slightly, then picked up the newspaper from the coffee table and continued reading.

Ding Qiunan had been fidgeting a bit, her face tense, her hands gripping the hem of her clothes tightly. She didn't know what was wrong with her man that had angered Aunt Wang.

Upon hearing Aunt Wang's words, she relaxed completely, her small hands loosened their grip on her clothes, and a slight blush appeared on her face.

Li Chu was truly at a loss for words. This wasn't just his problem, so why make him stand there and criticize only him?

He's already worked really hard, okay? Except for those few days each month, he's never had a moment's rest.

Of course, he really enjoyed this exercise, and he did it two or three times a night every few days, but the girl's belly remained flat, so what could he do?

But I can't say that. No matter what, I can't shift the blame onto my wife. I have to take the blame myself.

“Auntie, I assure you, Commander-in-Chief, that I have truly remembered your words. I even had a check-up, and we are both in good health. I guess the timing isn't right yet, since nothing has happened.” Li Chu explained cautiously.

After glancing at Ding Qiunan, Li Chu continued, "Because she hasn't gotten pregnant, Qiunan has been so anxious that she even cries secretly at night."

Aunt Wang turned to look at the girl, took her hand and placed it in her own, comforting her, "Child, you can't rush this. I criticized Xiao Chu because I was worried he didn't want children. Since you two are both healthy, having a child is just a matter of time, so don't put pressure on yourself."

"Auntie, I know. Li Chu tried to persuade me back then too," Ding Qiunan said sweetly.

There was a knock at the door, and Li Chu quickly went to open it.

Zhang Meng stood outside the door, followed by several waiters from the small kitchen who came to deliver the prepared food.

When Zhang Meng saw that it was Li Chu who opened the door, he glanced at the sofa in the living room to make sure things were calm before leading the waiter in to put the food on the dining table.

When Uncle Wang saw the food being served, he stood up and said, "Alright, let's eat first. We can talk about it after the meal."

Aunt Wang also said to Zhang Meng, "Little Zhang, you can eat here too."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Meng quickly said, "Aunt Wang, I won't eat here. They've already prepared food for me over there."

After saying that, seeing that the waiter had already set out the food, he led them out, nodding to Li Chu as he left.

Li Chu rolled his eyes at him; he still remembered how Zhang Meng had run away when things looked bad.

After Uncle Wang and Aunt Wang sat down at the table, the young couple followed suit.

"Xiao Chu, do you want a drink? Go get your own, there's some in the cabinet. I'm a bit tired today, so I won't drink with you," Uncle Wang said to him.

"It's alright, Uncle Wang, I won't drink anymore."

"Alright, let's all start eating. Qiu Nan, you should eat more; this child looks a bit thin." Uncle Wang urged Li Chu to eat after he said he wouldn't drink alcohol.

After the meal, Ding Qiunan wanted to help clear the dishes, but Aunt Wang stopped her: "Don't worry about Qiunan, the waiter will come and clean up in a bit. Come on, let's sit here and have a good chat." Aunt Wang got up and pulled the girl to sit on the sofa.

"Xiao Chu, you came here today because you have something to do, right?" Uncle Wang asked, sitting there without moving.

Li Chu nodded: "Uncle, there's something I want to tell you."

When Uncle Wang saw that Li Chu didn't continue speaking, he knew what he meant and said, "Alright, come to the study with me."

The uncle and nephew settled down on the single sofa in the study. Uncle Wang picked up a cigarette from the small coffee table in the middle, lit it, and then tossed the cigarette case to Li Chu.

Li Chu put the cigarette pack away and said, "Uncle, I've already quit smoking and drinking."

Uncle Wang was a little surprised to hear this, and looked at him without saying anything.

"I'm planning to have a child, so I quit smoking and drinking. That way it will be better for the baby in the future," Li Chu explained with a smile.

When Ding Qiunan saw Li Chu follow Uncle Wang into the study, she got up and went to the kitchen to pour tea for the two of them and bring it in.

The girl put down her cup and glanced at her husband with concern.

Li Chu didn't say anything, he just smiled at her.

Seeing her husband's relaxed demeanor, Ding Qiunan didn't linger. She walked out and closed the study door behind her.

The girl had noticed something was on Li Chu's mind on the way here, but since he didn't say anything, she didn't ask. She believed that Li Chu would tell her what he wanted to know. Since he hadn't said anything, she didn't want to bother him by asking questions.

After Ding Qiunan left, Uncle Wang spoke up: "Tell me, what's the matter that made you come to me on your own? You used to always figure things out on your own."

Li Chu mentally organized his thoughts and then told Uncle Wang everything that had happened to him recently, including the fact that the department had sent people to talk to him that afternoon.

After speaking, Li Chu picked up his teacup, took a sip of water, and saw Uncle Wang leaning back on the sofa with his eyes closed, deep in thought. He then fell silent.

Uncle Wang tapped his left hand on the armrest of the sofa.

After a while, Uncle Wang opened his eyes, stopped pointing, and looked at Li Chu, saying, "You are still too young. I didn't originally plan to let you join the health care team now, but since you have joined and are working there, you must pay attention to your words and actions."

After a pause, Uncle Wang casually asked, "Why did you agree to join the health care group? I remember Chen Fangguo wanted to recommend you, but you didn't agree."

"Hehe," Li Chu scratched his head a little embarrassedly and said, "I'm just doing this part-time. I still have my job at the hospital. Joining the health care team means I can get two salaries..."

These words amused Uncle Wang, who pointed at him a few times and said, "You little rascal, you really dare to say anything. What do you need so much money for? And why did you buy that detached house?"

"Uncle, I'm saying this to you, but it's a different story to others. Besides, who doesn't like money?"

After thinking for a moment, he continued, "As for buying a courtyard, Uncle, you know that the courtyard I live in now is too crowded and has too many messy things. I'm too lazy to deal with all that, so I want to move out and live somewhere less troublesome."

After listening to him, Uncle Wang looked at him seriously and said, "It's fine to make money, but you must do it honestly and uprightly. Don't do those shady things. I know you used to treat people privately, and they would give you money or receipts. Let's not talk about the past. Now that you've joined the health care group, you shouldn't do that kind of paid medical treatment anymore."

"I understand, Uncle. Actually, I haven't done this for a while. Now, when people contact me, I just tell them to go to the hospital to make an appointment."
