Li Chu turned on all the lights in the room and looked around carefully, but found nothing.
Now he was even more certain that the reason Xiao Hei was calling must be next door.
He told his wife to stay in the living room with the child and he would cook when he got back.
Holding a flashlight and accompanied by Xiao Hei, Li Chu walked out of his house.
Shining his flashlight over, he then saw some papers scattered on the ground in front of the Ran family's gate.
No way, did we get robbed?
As soon as I arrived at the gate of the Ran family's house, I saw that the gate was wide open.
Li Chu shone his flashlight on both sides of the alley, but didn't see a single person.
He sensed something was wrong; even in winter, their alley shouldn't be this quiet.
After hesitating for a moment, he still stood at the door and shouted loudly, "Is anyone home? Xiao Yezi, are you home? I'm Li Chu from next door."
No sooner had he finished speaking than he heard rustling sounds coming from inside. Just as he tightened his grip on the gun, a familiar voice came from inside.
"Is that Brother Li?" The voice was trembling and had a hint of crying in it.
"It's me, Xiao Yezi, what's wrong?"
With a creak, the main door opened from the inside.
Li Chu walked a few steps into the courtyard and shone his flashlight over. He saw the two sisters, Ran Qiuye and Ran Ziye, supporting each other as they slowly walked out of the house.
"Professor Ran, you're here too. I thought only Ye Zi was home. Why didn't you turn on the lights? What happened at home? Where are Professor Ran and Professor Zhang?"
Li Chu asked several questions in one breath: Why is the Ran family acting so strangely today?
With a loud "Wah!", Ran Ziye burst into tears, and Ran Qiuye also began to wipe away her tears.
The sisters' crying completely baffled him.
He didn't do anything, just asked a few questions, so why is he crying now? Is he trying to scam me?
If other people saw this, who knows what they would think.
"Uh..." He really didn't know what to say.
Fortunately, Ding Qiunan next door, although at home, had been paying attention to what was happening here. She had heard her husband speaking so loudly.
Unable to stay at home, and unsure of what had happened, she brought her two children, Xiaobai and Xiaohuang, over here, leaving Xiaohua at home to guard the house.
"What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
Hearing his wife's voice behind him, Li Chu breathed a sigh of relief. In the dark, he was alone with two crying girls and really didn't know what to do.
"I don't know why they were crying. I asked them what happened to their family, and that's how they reacted."
Ding Qiunan told the two children to stay with their father. She walked over to the two sisters with a flashlight and patted Ran Ziye on the shoulder: "Yezi, don't cry yet. Tell me what happened?"
As a result, Ran Ziye let go of her sister's arm, turned around and threw herself into her arms, crying even louder.
Fortunately, Ran Qiuye wiped away her tears and sobbed as she recounted what had happened to her family.
After hearing her words, Li Chu slowly exhaled. It has begun, it has finally begun.
This matter has to be handled slowly. He didn't have any good solutions, so he could only ask Ding Qiunan to coax the two sisters to come to his house first.
There's no electricity here. I don't know why the people who came this morning broke the power switch at their house. No wonder they're staying inside without turning on the lights.
Ding Qiunan helped the two sisters, one in each arm, walk towards her home.
Li Chu picked up the two children and followed behind.
"Daddy, why are Aunt Yezi and Aunt Qiuye crying? The nursery teachers told us that children who cry are not good children," Xiaowenhui said softly, hugging her father's neck.
"Huihui, Aunt Yezi and Aunt Qiuye are crying because something happened at home. They are crying because they are sad, not because they are making a fuss."
Xiao Wenhui didn't quite understand, but she didn't ask any more questions. Instead, she rested her head on her father's shoulder.
After leaving the Ran family's gate, Li Chu put the children down on the ground, turned around and pulled the gate shut, locking it with the lock on the doorknob, without caring whether the two sisters had a key or not.
When he brought the children into his living room, Ding Qiunan had already pulled the Ran sisters to sit on the sofa.
Once they reached a bright place, Li Chu could see clearly that the two sisters' eyes were swollen like walnuts; they must have been crying at home all day.
He didn't say anything, letting the two children play by themselves. He poured two glasses of water and placed them on the coffee table, then went to the kitchen to prepare a meal.
I'll just make some noodles. I still have some minced meat sauce in the fridge. Minced meat noodles are quick and easy.
Those two sisters probably haven't eaten all day.
Fortunately, Li Chu had prepared in advance and made a lot of noodles. The two sisters ate them ravenously, and one bowl wasn't enough, so they each had another bowl.
After finishing their meal, the two finally calmed down.
"Teacher Ran, please tell me everything that happened this morning, from beginning to end."
Li Chu originally didn't want to get involved in this matter, but after all, they were neighbors and had a pretty good relationship. Now that they were in trouble, it would be a bit unreasonable not to ask them anything. So he decided to listen first.
As Ran Qiuye recounted her story, with her sister adding details, Li Chu finally understood the whole sequence of events.
It seems that Professor Ran's student reported him.
Actually, it's partly his own fault. If you're going to teach, just teach according to the textbook. Why brag about your overseas study experience? Now look what you've done, you've even ruined your own wife.
If things go wrong, Professor Ran and his wife might end up spending their lives with cattle this time.
According to Ran Qiuye, those people also searched her house and took away several letters written in English, but she didn't know the specific contents of the letters.
Li Chu was already astonished by Professor Ran's outrageous actions.
He couldn't understand why he kept those things. Now look what's happened! Those people don't even need to know what's written; they can cripple you just from this letter.
"Sigh," Li Chu sighed, looking at the expectant eyes of the two sisters, he was speechless.
"Li Chu, can you find out where Professor Ran and the others were taken?"
"I'll give it a try, but I might not be able to find it. I don't know anyone at that company."
"Thank you, Brother Li."
Wow, Ran Qiuye actually called him that because of his parents; she had always called him Doctor Li before.
"Don't thank me yet. I'm not sure I can find it. I can only try, and it will be tomorrow." Li Chu hurriedly waved his hand. He didn't want to be held hostage, so he made the unpleasant point clear upfront.
"It's already very kind of us to try, there's nothing we can do."
"Alright, Qiu Nan, you two chat. I'll go help the two kids wash up."
