Chapter 180 Getting to Know

Li Chu stood up and walked to Ding Qiunan's side, took the child from her arms, thought for a moment and said, "Wife, take the flashlight and Xiao Hei to the hospital. Have the emergency room staff bring a cart over and take this person to the hospital first. Now that we've seen him, we can't just leave him like this."

Ding Qiunan gripped the flashlight tightly and asked worriedly, "Will everything be alright?"

"Don't worry, wife. I checked, she really did faint from hunger. Her clothes are still pretty decent, except for some dirt on them. And she won't wake up anytime soon. Take Xiao Hei and go quickly and come back soon."

Ding Qiunan took the flashlight, and the alley became dark. The two children huddled tightly in their father's arms.

Li Chu paced back and forth, humming nursery rhymes to the children.

Within ten minutes, Ding Qiunan arrived with a doctor from their hospital's emergency department.

After the two doctors arrived, they lifted the person lying on the ground onto a cart. Li Chu then gave them a few more instructions, telling them to take the person to the hospital for treatment first, and that he would handle the expenses when he came to work the next morning.

After watching them pull the cart away, Li Chu and Ding Qiunan walked home together.

"Li Chu, life is much better now than it was two years ago, so how come someone is still fainting from hunger?"

"I don't know, something must have happened. We'll find out when we get to the hospital tomorrow morning."

When I got home, I first boiled water to give the two children a bath, and then prepared formula for them to drink from their own bottles.

After they finish drinking their milk, they will both fall asleep on their own.

These two children have actually made things much easier for Li Chu and Ding Qiunan.

In the hospital, they saw many children who were sick every few days, which was truly heartbreaking.

The next morning, upon arriving at the hospital, Li Chu first went to the canteen, found Li, the head chef, and handed him the shopping list that He Yuzhu had given him the night before.

"Squad Leader Li, thank you for your help."

Looking at the list in his hand, Squad Leader Li said, "Don't be so polite, Dr. Li. You're not buying any delicacies. Just come and pick it up at noon on the 30th. Don't buy it too early, or some things won't be fresh."

"Stepping on Stars"

"Bag supervisor, also, you'll need to lend me a few of those plates and bowls later."

"No problem, it's a small matter. Anyway, we won't be cooking special meals during the National Day holiday."

"By the way, Dr. Li, may I ask which chef you had cooking for you?"

Originally, Li Chu wanted to ask Squad Leader Li to cook, but unfortunately, he told him too late, and the other person had already promised to do so to someone else.

Li Chu had no choice but to find He Yuzhu, hoping that his cooking skills were already quite good.

"I'm looking for a cook at the steel mill named He Yuzhu. I wonder if Foreman Li knows him?"

“He Yuzhu, He Yuzhu, I do know someone surnamed He, but it seems he’s no longer in Beijing,” Squad Leader Li said after thinking for a moment.

"Is the person you know named He Daqing?" Li Chu guessed that the person Squad Leader Li knew was Zhu Zi's father.

"Yes, yes, that's him. He Daqing used to cook official cuisine." Squad Leader Li remembered him as soon as the name was mentioned.

"The He Yuzhu I'm looking for is He Daqing's son."

"Oh, I know, you mean Sha Zhu? His dad used to call him Sha Zhu all the time. I didn't even realize it when you said his real name."

Squad Leader Li continued, "Sha Zhu has learned some of his father's skills, so cooking should be no problem for him. It's just that he hasn't been able to handle things on his own for a while, so he's probably a little lacking in experience. But he'll definitely be able to cook this kind of banquet."

The purchase list was handed to Squad Leader Li, and Li Chu gave him another fifty yuan, promising to refund any overpayment or make up any underpayment later. The necessary tickets would be given on the 30th.

These chefs always have unexpected methods to create things you can't find in the market.

After leaving the cafeteria, Li Chu went straight to the internal medicine department. The person who fainted last night should be assigned to the internal medicine department.

I asked a nurse, and she led Li Chu directly to the ward.

This ward has three beds, but only the one from last night has been assigned to it so far.

When Li Chu went in, the person was sitting on the edge of the bed with his back to the door. Hearing the noise, he turned around and looked over.

His face was still unshaven, but it was clean now, revealing a resolute expression and bright, piercing eyes.

He stood up when he saw the person coming in.

The nurse said directly to him, "Comrade, this is Dr. Li from our hospital. He's the one who saved you last night."

As soon as he finished speaking, the man walked to the open space at the foot of the bed, knelt down with a thud, and was about to kowtow to Li Chu.

"Hey, hey, comrade, what are you doing?" Seeing this, Li Chu hurriedly stepped forward to try to pull him up, but unexpectedly, he couldn't pull him up on the first try, and the man kowtowed.

It took Li Chu a lot of effort to pull him up on the second try.

"Good heavens, he's malnourished but still has so much energy," Li Chu thought to himself.

After being forcibly pulled up, the man looked at Li Chu in surprise. The doctor looked thin and weak, but he was surprisingly strong.

The nurse who brought Li Chu here had already left; she was too busy to watch this thank-you show.

“Comrade, I was just passing by and saw you, and I was just calling a doctor to take you to the hospital. There’s no need for such a big gesture,” Li Chu said.

The man's words were simple: "I will never forget the kindness that saved my life."

After saying that, he took out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Li Chu: "This is my proof. I will find a way to pay you back the money from the hospital."

Li Chu took it, glanced at it, and then looked up at him.

This is a demobilization certificate from the military. The man's name is Wu Xiaoliu, and he is thirty years old this year.

"Comrade, since you are a demobilized soldier, why did you faint from hunger by the roadside?"

Wu Xiaoliu remained silent and said nothing.

Seeing this, Li Chu knew there must be some unspeakable reason, so he didn't ask any further.

"Comrade Wu, what are you planning to do next?"

"Thank you, Dr. Li, for saving my life. I'm leaving now to go find someone. I'll find a way to pay you back the money I owe you."

Li Chu nodded without saying much, but took out five yuan and a few grain coupons from his pants pocket and handed them to him.

"I don't know why you fainted from hunger, but I suppose you don't have any money. Take these and use them for now, and remember to pay me back later."

Wu Xiaoliu accepted it without hesitation: "Don't worry, Dr. Li, I will definitely pay you back."

Li Chu remained noncommittal after hearing his words. He didn't care about the money; he only mentioned that he would repay it to show his attitude. If you didn't repay it, he had nowhere to turn.

After receiving the money, Wu Xiaoliu did not stay in the hospital any longer. He had fainted from hunger and was not sick, so he did not need to be hospitalized.
