Chapter 397 Reporting the Crime

By the time Qin Huairu was released and returned home, it was already the evening of September 4th.

Exhausted, she fainted as soon as she entered her home.

When I opened my eyes again, it was already noon the next day.

She felt so hungry she could eat a whole cow.

He gulped down three large bowls of noodles before finally stopping.

The whole family sat to one side waiting for her. Even the three old men from the courtyard came over.

Even though Uncle Erda's leg was already lame, he still came over to show off his presence, leaning on his cane.

"Huai Ru, what's wrong with you? Why did you suddenly go and report Director Li and Li Chu and his sister?"

An old man saw her finally put down her bowl and couldn't help but ask.

Qin Huairu's tears came suddenly. Just as she was about to feign pitifulness and gain sympathy, the curtain at He Yuzhu's house was lifted, and two police officers in uniform walked in.

One of them, upon entering, stared at Qin Huairu and asked, "You're Qin Huairu, right?"

"I am, and who are you?"

The police officer took out his work ID and flashed it.

“I am from Beixinqiao Police Station. A colleague named Li Qin came to our police station to report a case, saying that you made false accusations against others. We have already obtained evidence from the street office. Please come with us to the station for investigation.”

The room was filled with silence.

He Yuzhu slowly stood up: "Officer, wasn't my wife already taken away for questioning? She was taken away for two days and only came back last night."

"Really? We don't know who took her away. We came to find her because someone reported a case to us, accusing Qin Huairu of false accusation. According to our investigation and evidence collection, she did indeed make a false accusation, so we need her to come back to the station with us to cooperate with the investigation."

"You guys coordinated really well!" The second uncle sat on a small stool, looked at the police officer, and then at Qin Huairu, who was standing there dumbfounded, and blurted out unconsciously.

When Aunt Jia saw that her daughter-in-law was about to be taken away again after just returning, she plopped down on the ground, slapped her thigh, and was about to cry out when the curtain was lifted up again.

The person who came in this time was a staff member from the neighborhood committee. As soon as she came in, she pointed at Aunt Jia who was sitting on the ground and said, "Aunt Jia Zhangshi, I remember telling you before that if you dare to cause trouble again, do you believe I will send you to the countryside today?"

"Gah..." The wailing was already in her throat, but she forced it back down, making herself cough.

She didn't have the guts to try and see if the neighborhood committee could send her back to the countryside.

"Let's go, Qin Huairu."

The two police officers standing at the door stepped aside to make way for her.

"Comrade, comrade, if you have any questions, you can just ask here. You don't need to go to your institute."

He Yuzhu took two steps forward and said anxiously.

Another police officer pointed at He Yuzhu and said, "Comrade, please don't obstruct us from carrying out our duties, or we'll take you back with us."

Seeing that He Yuzhu's stubbornness was about to flare up again, an old man quickly pulled him back and said with a smile to the police officer, "Comrade, he's not trying to stop you. He's just like that, don't mind him."

Qin Huairu slowly turned her head and looked around. She realized that no one could help her. At this moment, she really regretted it. She must have been bewitched that day. Why did she have to make such a fuss when she could have had a good life?

Those who are meant to come will come. She slowly walked to the door, glanced back at the people inside, lowered her head, and followed the two police officers out of the courtyard.

Everyone who was at home in the courtyard came out to see what was going on.

After the police officers left with Qin Huairu, the neighborhood committee staff stood in the open space of the courtyard and said loudly, "Of all the neighborhoods in the entire subdistrict, your courtyard is the worst. There are thieves, false accusations, quarrels, and disturbances. I'm telling you, this is the last time. If we hear any more about this courtyard in the future, our neighborhood committee will find a way to relocate your housing."

With a "whoosh," everyone in the courtyard instantly fell silent.

“The Jia Zhang family, especially your family, has the most trouble.”

After saying that, the staff member looked around and then said, "Alright, you guys get back to your work, I'll head over now."

After he left, the people in the courtyard started gossiping again.

He Yuzhu was numb now. The third uncle sighed, patted his shoulder, put his hands behind his back, and walked towards the front yard.

Uncle Erda also leaned on his cane and walked towards the backyard.

Even the old man remained silent and turned to walk home.

Some left, some dispersed, and He Yuzhu returned to his room dejectedly.

Xiao Dang and Huaihua were so frightened that they didn't dare to say a word. They went over to help Aunt Jia and then went into He Yuzhu's house.

As soon as she entered the house, Aunt Jia started muttering, "Hmph, they just bully us orphans and widows."

He Yuzhu opened his mouth upon hearing her words, but didn't know what to say.

He's now filled with regret. He wonders if he and Qin Huairu are just incompatible, since so many problems have arisen right after they got their marriage certificate.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, he took out a cigarette, lit it, and sighed silently. Had he really messed up this time?

After getting off work in the afternoon, Li Chu and Ding Qiunan got off at the entrance of the alley. As soon as they turned into the alley, they saw Xu Damao squatting in front of his house, smoking.

Seeing Li Chu and the others return, Xu Damao took a deep drag on his cigarette, then threw away the cigarette butt and stood up.

"Brother Chu, sister-in-law, you're back."

"Why are you coming here instead of going home after get off work?"

"Hey, Brother Chu, I've come over to tell you something and I'll head back soon."

"What is it? Tell me."

"Brother Chu, I just heard that Qin Huairu was released last night, but she was taken away by the police station again at noon today."

"Huh? Really?"

"Don't you know, Brother Chu?"

Should I know?

"It was Sister Qin who went to the police station to report the case, accusing Qin Huairu of false accusation, so the police station took her away."

"What did you say?"

Ding Qiunan, who had just taken out her keys to open the door, was so startled by Xu Damao's words that she dropped her keys on the ground.

"That's what the police station said."

Li Chu turned his head to look at his sister's house next door.

He expected his sister to deal with Qin Huairu, but he didn't expect her to go to the police station to report the case.

Thinking of this, Li Chu smiled. This time, Qin Huairu was probably going to be tormented terribly.

Xu Damao came over just to say this, and after he finished speaking, he happily rode off on his bicycle.

"Hey, our sister's got a trick up her sleeve. Come on, honey, let's not open the door yet, let's go for a walk over there."
