Li Chu thought for a moment and said, "It's about some suggestions regarding traditional Chinese medicine."
"Traditional Chinese medicine?" This puzzled Uncle Wang. What was wrong with traditional Chinese medicine?
"Yes, Uncle, it's about some issues related to traditional Chinese medicine. It's hard to explain in just a few words. Please wait until I submit my report to see it."
"Okay, then hurry up! Did you send the children away yesterday?"
"After we left, Yueyue cried her eyes out."
Uncle Wang smiled and said, "She's definitely going to cry. She's never been separated from Wenhui and Wenxuan for this long before."
Uncle Wang chatted with Li Chu for another ten minutes, taking the time to rest.
Seeing that it was almost time, Li Chu prepared to leave. Uncle Wang's time was now scheduled down to the minute; he was busy to death all day long.
"Wait for my call these next couple of days. If I'm free one evening, come over to my house and make me some more of your medicinal cuisine."
"Uncle, it's up to you. I'll be there whenever you call."
As Li Chu walked out of the office, he saw that several people were already sitting in the waiting room not far away, waiting to be received.
One of the men, who was in his thirties, paused when he saw Li Chu walking by. He quickly peeked out again, but saw nothing.
An older man sitting opposite him noticed his movements and asked, "Xiao Zheng, what's wrong?"
"Oh, sir, that person who just passed by looks familiar to me. He looks like our family's savior, but the age doesn't match up, and he's not a soldier. Maybe I'm mistaken."
"Is the savior you're talking about the one who almost starved to death on the way back to Dongshan from the capital that year, because your whole family was robbed?"
"Boss, it was that time when my father was stabbed twice and almost died. We hadn't eaten or drunk anything for two days in that remote place. We were really desperate."
Our family's benefactor appeared around that time. He said he was from the capital, a traveling doctor who treated my father's wounds, gave us some food, a dollar, and a few kilograms of grain coupons. It was thanks to this that we were able to return to Dongshan. Later, I even made a special trip to the capital to look for him, but I couldn't find him.
The person addressed as the leader nodded: "I've heard your father mention this before. There are many righteous people among itinerant doctors and traveling physicians."
Just then, Secretary Liu walked into the waiting room, and the people sitting inside stood up.
Secretary Liu smiled and said to the person referred to as the leader, "Vice-General Chang, please come with me."
After the two of them left, the other person said to Xiao Zheng, "Why don't you ask Section Chief Liu later? Maybe that guy really is your family's benefactor. You should know his name, right?"
"Director Zhang, look at what you're saying! Of course we know the name of our family's benefactor!"
Xiao Zheng was also somewhat moved by what Director Zhang said. His family had been searching for this benefactor for twenty years. When his father was on his deathbed, he still remembered him and told them that they must find him.
However, when he thought about the gap between him and Section Chief Liu, he hesitated to speak.
Director Zhang could see his predicament: "How about this, Xiao Zheng, I'll ask Section Chief Liu for you when he comes out later."
"Thank you, Director Zhang."
Just as he finished speaking, Secretary Liu walked past the door. Director Zhang quickly stood up and called out to him, "Section Chief Liu, please wait a moment. I'm sorry to take up a little of your time."
When Secretary Liu heard someone calling him, he stopped and looked over. The person who called him came with the leaders from Dongshan, and he seemed to remember that the person was the office director.
"Director Zhang, is there something you need?" Secretary Liu asked with a smile.
"Section Chief Liu, I'd like to ask you, was the soldier who just passed by named...?"
At this point, Director Zhang glanced back, and Xiao Zheng hurriedly said, "Li Chu, is that comrade named Li Chu?"
Hearing this, Secretary Liu was taken aback. He looked at Director Zhang, then at the young man who had mentioned Li Chu's name, and nodded with a smile: "What, do you two know Vice President Li?"
"Vice Dean Li?" Director Zhang and Xiao Zheng exchanged a confused glance.
Their expressions only deepened Secretary Liu's confusion: "You don't know each other?"
Xiao Zheng then realized that they must be talking about the same person, but he was referring to him by his name while Secretary Liu was referring to his job title.
But could it just be a coincidence that they share the same name?
"Section Chief Liu, it's like this, our Comrade Zheng's family has been searching for their savior from back then, a man named Li Chu. But it must be a mistake, their savior is said to be an itinerant doctor."
"You must be talking about the same person!"
A voice suddenly came from outside the door.
Secretary Liu turned around and saw that it was Zhang Jianshe who had spoken to him.
Zhang Jianshe had been reading in the guardhouse diagonally opposite when he heard the voices coming from this side, and he overheard their conversation.
"Jianshe, Vice President Li used to be an itinerant doctor?" Secretary Liu asked incredulously.
"No, but when Uncle Li was learning from his master, I heard my dad say that he traveled all over the provinces of Beihe and Dongshan, treating people for free, just to gain more experience in treating patients."
Upon hearing Zhang Jianshe's words, Xiao Zheng's eyes lit up. He didn't care about anything else and hurriedly asked Zhang Jianshe, "Comrade, how old is this Vice President Li you mentioned? He looks very young to me."
"Uncle Li is over forty years old, but he looks younger than his age."
Xiao Zheng silently did the math in his mind. If that made sense, the age would match up. They were both studying medicine, so it was almost certain that it was the same person.
"Xiao Zheng, how is it? Is he your family's savior?" Director Zhang asked anxiously when he saw that he was silent.
"Ah, the age matches, it should be the same person."
He then looked at Secretary Liu and asked, "Section Chief Liu, may I ask which unit this Vice President Li you mentioned works for? I'd like to visit him sometime and thank him in person for saving our family's life."
Secretary Liu looked Xiao Zheng up and down, thought for a moment and said, "Vice President Li is the vice president of the General Hospital of the Army. If you want to find him, you can go there, but I can't guarantee that you will be able to meet him in person."
After Secretary Liu finished speaking, he nodded to Director Zhang and then walked away, as he had other things to attend to.
After Secretary Liu left, Zhang Jianshe glanced at the two people in the waiting room, then turned and walked into the guard room across the street.
