"They didn't say where you were transferred to?"
"Xiaoying said that he went to work as the deputy political commissar of some logistics base in Northeast China." Ding Qiunan rested her chin on her man's chest and thought for a while before speaking.
Li Chu almost choked on his own saliva.
It was surprising enough that he was transferred outside of Beijing, let alone to the Northeast. To make matters worse, he was appointed as the deputy political commissar of a logistics base.
This is clearly a way of sending him to retire there.
If it's a large base, the level might not change much, but...
Considering that Wan Changsheng was not even fifty years old, he shook his head with some regret.
"He brought this on himself. If only he had known then what he knows now, he wouldn't have done it in the first place."
"At least he got away quickly this time." Ding Qiunan was still a little uneasy. She hadn't even used all her methods yet, and the person involved had already gotten away. It felt like she had punched cotton, which was very frustrating.
"Okay, honey, don't think about it so much."
"Oh, right, Li Chu, several people have asked me recently if I still have that medicine you made. What should I say to them?"
"Go to the pharmacy tomorrow morning and pick it up yourself. It's in that big porcelain jar. There are also small paper bags for the medicine in the cabinet. Give each person a maximum of ten pills. Make it clear to them that if anyone sells this medicine or gives it to outsiders, they can't blame me for being difficult."
"That's impossible. They all took them back for their men to use."
"Well, let's be frank from the start. After all, I've handed over the prescriptions. It's fine if I make a little for my own people, but if too much leaks out, it will be difficult for me to explain to Lianhe Bank and the business department."
I explained to them that we didn't have much of this medicine left, but they shouldn't worry, as I estimated it would be available on the market soon and shouldn't be too expensive. I had made that clear beforehand.
"How much does one of those pills cost?" Ding Qiunan asked curiously.
"If you make a lot, it'll only be a little over ten cents."
"So cheap? I can't accept the money they offer."
"They even offered to pay me."
"Yes, when they were chatting in my office this afternoon, Sister Meng from the finance department said she would give them money, and they all agreed."
"Forget it," Li Chu shook his head and said, "Don't take their money. It's pointless. Since we're going to do them a favor, we might as well do it to the end. We don't rely on this to make a living."
“Alright, I’ll explain everything to them tomorrow.” Ding Qiunan, nestled against her man’s chest, nodded and then asked, “Do you know if we’ll be changing clothes again in the second half of the year?”
"More or less, probably after National Day."
"Really? Why? This set I'm wearing was only recently distributed, and it seems like there are still some sets I haven't received yet."
"This isn't just a simple change of uniforms; there should be a re-assignment of ranks as well."
Ding Qiunan blinked blankly. When she joined the army, she wore a three-point red uniform. She changed into this uniform after National Day two years ago. She didn't have any rank insignia. Now that she was suddenly talking about being awarded ranks, she was still a little confused.
"Is it the same as the old one?"
"It should be roughly the same, but there will definitely be changes."
"What rank will you be awarded this time?" She wasn't interested in what rank she would receive, but it was a different story for her man.
"Director Wang mentioned it to me a couple of days ago, and I suspect it's..."
Li Chu explained his previous job title to his wife.
After hearing this, Ding Qiunan jumped up and sat on the bed, staring at her husband in disbelief.
Why that expression?
"Wait a minute." Ding Qiunan waved her hand, signaling him not to speak yet. Then she sat there frowning and thinking for a while before saying uncertainly, "So, according to you, your military rank is only one level lower than when Uncle Wang was awarded his rank?"
"You can't compare these," Li Chu quickly shook his head.
"Back then, those people deserved to be called the founders of the nation. How can we compare to them now? There's simply no comparison."
"I knew it, you scared me!" Ding Qiunan patted her chest and lay back down.
"Darling, if our parents hadn't sacrificed their lives back then, what rank would they have been awarded?"
Li Chu was taken aback by his wife's question; he really had never thought of that before.
After thinking it over for a while, he said, "Our father should be about the same level as Uncle Wang, but it's hard to say about our mother. She might be one or two levels lower."
Ding Qiunan smacked her lips but didn't say anything.
Why did you suddenly ask that?
"It's nothing, I was just asking." She looked up at her husband and smiled sheepishly.
"Let's go visit my parents tomorrow since we have the day off."
"Sure, we'll go there in the morning and have lunch there."
"Will you bring the child or not?"
"Let's bring them along; they haven't seen their child in a while."
"Hmph, they wouldn't listen when we told them not to move, now it's a hassle to even see the kids," Ding Qiunan grumbled with some dissatisfaction.
Bidige
"It's okay, we can just keep running around. By the way, I applied for a phone line for Dad the other day, and we're in line right now."
"Why bother applying for that for them? They'd never be willing to spend that much. The landline fee alone costs so much every month."
"Oh, that's not much. We'll pay it for her later."
"Just you wait, my mom will definitely start nagging again when she finds out."
"We don't know when it will be our turn yet. Having a phone will make things more convenient, and we can be notified if anything happens."
“What you said is true, unlike now where we can only contact Jianguo during the day.”
"That's right. It will be much easier to stay in touch once mobile phones become available in China in a couple of years."
"A mobile phone? You mean that brick-like thing in the video?"
"Yes, as long as there is a signal, you can use it anywhere and stay connected anytime."
"It's so big and inconvenient to carry, who would use it?"
"Tch, didn't you just say it's all on the video? What rich person wouldn't want one of those? It's so impressive."
"I don't think it's anything special. I just think it would be convenient to use in a fight. I just don't know how sturdy it is," Ding Qiunan said, pursing her lips.
His wife's words made Li Chu smile.
"Those companies are definitely still researching smaller mobile phones. They will definitely get smaller and smaller, until they are about the size of the palm of your hand."
"How is that possible? That phone looks so big, how can it be shrunk to such a small size? How do you fit all the parts inside?" Ding Qiunan said, gesturing with her hands.
"Shrink them all. As long as there is demand, those telephone manufacturers will definitely find a way to research and develop them."
