Chapter 233 Meeting

Li Chu looked calmly at Jiang Cheng, who was pale and listless.

Jiang Cheng did not expect that the person he met after arriving would be Li Chu. He thought that he had been brought here for interrogation.

When he entered and saw who was sitting inside, he was clearly taken aback.

Then he straightened his back as if trying to make himself more energetic.

Urged on by his escorts, Jiang Cheng slowly walked to the chair opposite Li Chu and sat down.

After he sat down, the escorts went outside, and Director Liu stood outside without coming in.

Li Chu sat there staring intently at Jiang Cheng opposite him, without saying a word.

Ten minutes passed quickly, and the two were still staring at each other. Jiang Cheng was clearly starting to lose his composure, and his eyes began to dart around.

A few more minutes passed, and Jiang Cheng, unable to hold back any longer, finally spoke: "Did you come here just to see me looking like this, in such a sorry state?"

Li Chu slowly shook his head: "I want to see what exactly caused you to fall from being a martyr's family member and a meritorious person to a prisoner."

Jiang Cheng sneered, "Heroes? Martyrs' families? Have you ever seen a family member bullied like that and no one cared? Just because his father was a living official, and we are just families."

Director Liu, standing outside the door, breathed a sigh of relief. As long as he could speak, that was good. Jiang Cheng hadn't uttered a single word during the two days he had been under control.

Although he doesn't speak, he can still be convicted if the evidence is conclusive, but it still leaves people feeling somewhat regretful.

"So you mean their family has completely taken over over there, and the government there is no longer under their leadership?" Li Chu retorted.

"Alright, I didn't come here today to discuss this issue with you; that's the police's responsibility. I just came to find out if you were the one who sent the letter to my wife."

Hearing Li Chu's question, Jiang Cheng let out a somewhat neurotic laugh.

"I've received it. How is it? Is it working well?"

Seeing Jiang Cheng's expression, Li Chu clenched his fist, forcibly suppressing the anger in his heart, and asked calmly, "Why did you do this?"

"Why should she be so happy while my sister has to suffer? You and my sister are a couple. Don't forget, you two have been engaged since childhood," Jiang Cheng said through gritted teeth.

"Ha!" Jiang Cheng's remarks made Li Chu both angry and amused.

"Is this your reason for wanting to harm my loved one?"

"Isn't that enough? By the way, how is she now? Tell me so I can have a laugh."

Looking at Jiang Cheng's eccentric and smirking expression, Li Chu frowned.

"Jiang Cheng, you must know that touching arsenic generally doesn't cause any real harm, right?"

These words stunned Jiang Cheng, who was grinning smugly.

"Arsenic? How could that be? That's potassium cyanide."

Li Chu shrugged: "I don't know where you got that stuff from, but it really is arsenic, scientifically known as arsenic trioxide."

"Why don't you try it yourself first and see if it works?"

Seeing Li Chu's teasing expression, Jiang Cheng's eyes turned red with anger. He stood up abruptly and pounced on Li Chu.

Just as the person standing outside was about to come in, Li Chu swung his fist and punched Jiang Cheng in the face with a "bang".

This punch caused Jiang Cheng, who had just pounced, to quickly fall back down, and the chair and he fell backward together.

With a loud bang, the two people who had just run in from outside looked down at the ground.

"Hiss!" Jiang Cheng's miserable appearance made the two of them gasp.

Director Liu, who followed in, felt a sudden toothache; this was too cruel.

Jiang Cheng, lying on the ground, was somewhat disoriented after being punched by Li Chu.

Blood was constantly gushing from his nostrils, and his nose bridge was clearly dislocated and broken. Blood was also flowing from the corner of his mouth, and it looked like his front teeth were in danger of being saved.

Li Chu shook his hand; the punch had made his hand hurt.

The two people who came in first helped Jiang Cheng, who was lying on the ground groaning, up, along with the chair.

It took Jiang Cheng a long time to recover. He opened his mouth, spitting out a few teeth, looked up at Li Chu, smiled, and said, "I didn't realize you were so strong."

“There are many things you didn’t see. That punch was for my wife. To be honest, if you took it out on me for everything, I would be angry, but not this angry. You shouldn’t have hit my wife.”

Jiang Cheng gave a wry smile: "Sigh, why didn't you just kill me already?"

"Ha!" Li Chu grinned at Jiang Cheng, "With me here, you still want to die? You're dreaming. As long as you have a breath left, I can bring you back to life."

Jiang Cheng sighed again and said, "Li Chu, I can't leave. Please, for the sake of our childhood, help me take care of my sister and her child. Without me, I think their lives will be very difficult in the future."

"You only think of them now? When you were doing those things, why didn't you think of them? Did you even consider how Jiang Li and her child would live after she lost her job?"

"Why should my sister be involved in my affairs? She doesn't know anything about these things, so why can't she work?"

Jiang Cheng stood up excitedly and shouted, but the movement aggravated his facial injury, causing his mouth to twitch in pain.

Li Chu spread his hands: "Where did you get the money to buy her a job? You haven't forgotten, have you?"

"That...that's my own money." A hint of panic flashed in Jiang Cheng's eyes.

"Your money? Then explain yourself to the investigators. Jiang Cheng, you don't actually believe these lies yourself, do you?"

"Also, let me remind you, there are scrap metal collection stations and supply and marketing cooperatives too." Li Chu said, staring intently into his eyes.

Sure enough, Jiang Cheng looked at Li Chu in surprise, then turned to look at the two people beside him, and his body, which had been taut, slumped down.

“Jiang Cheng, I’ve never understood this. Have you forgotten how Uncle Jiang died? Have you forgotten how all those uncles and elders died? How could you cooperate with them? How can you face Uncle Jiang’s spirit in heaven?”

"I can't think about all that. I just want to avenge my sister. I want to make that kid wish he were dead."

"Are you avenging her? You've harmed her. If Jiang Li knew that you were conspiring with a tyrant to help her get revenge, how do you think she would react?"

Jiang Cheng didn't speak, he just looked at Li Chu, his eyes showing no emotion.

"Phew..." Li Chu let out a long breath, then asked, "Those two people wanted to find me through you, right?"
