Ding Qiunan hurriedly opened the saline bottle and poured it into her husband's hand.
Li Chu washed his hands with salt water and then washed his face.
Then he opened another bottle and had Ding Qiunan wash it as well.
When I was emptying the envelopes, some of the powder must have been thrown up.
After they had both finished washing, Li Chu took out a pair of rubber gloves that surgeons use during operations from the drawer and put them on.
He took another file folder and told Ding Qiunan to stand further away. He held his breath and put the oddly folded letter into it.
Then he carefully swept the powder that had fallen on the table into the open envelope in front of him.
There was still a lot of unfilled powder at the bottom of the envelope.
I grabbed a rag and wiped the table and the floor.
Seeing that her husband had finished everything, Ding Qiunan anxiously asked, "Li Chu, what exactly happened? Was that white powder poisonous?"
Li Chu shook his head: "I don't know either. I'm going to take it to the lab and have them do a test to see what it is."
I always felt it wouldn't be anything good.
"Then...who...who can send me something like this?" Ding Qiunan was so frightened that she could barely speak.
Taking off his gloves, Li Chu closed the door, pulled Ding Qiunan into his arms, and gently patted her back: "Don't worry, wife, it might not be anything. Even if it's poison, I'm here for you."
"Now come with me to take the envelope to the lab so they can check what's inside, okay?"
Holding her husband, Ding Qiunan suddenly felt much safer. She raised her pale face and looked at her husband: "Li Chu, I'm a little scared."
"Don't worry, I'm here!" Li Chu looked at his wife with firm eyes.
After a while, Ding Qiunan's complexion returned to normal a little.
"I feel better, let's go to the lab."
Li Chu let go of her, took out another pair of gloves from the drawer and put them on, along with the envelope and the gloves he had just taken off.
As for the folded letter paper in the document bag, he didn't take it. If the test results show that the powder is toxic, then that will still need to be handed over.
They brought Ding Qiunan to the laboratory.
"Oh, Director Guo, you're on duty at noon today?"
"Dr. Li, what brings you two here today?" Director Guo of the laboratory department said with a smile as he looked at Li Chu and Ding Qiunan standing at the door.
"I do have something I need to trouble you with." Li Chu waved the envelope in his hand and walked into the laboratory: "Director Guo, could you please take a look at what this powder in here is?"
Director Guo adjusted his glasses, looked at the envelope, and then at Li Chu: "Dr. Li, what do you mean? I don't quite understand."
"I suspect that the powder in the envelope contains something bad, and I would like you to help me test it."
"Something bad?" Director Guo was taken aback for a moment before realizing, "You mean you suspect it's poisonous?"
Li Chu nodded: "Yes."
"Come, come, Dr. Li, please put your things here." Director Guo clearly showed interest. He turned around, put on his mask, and then took out a pair of gloves.
"Alright, you two don't need to wait here anymore. Come back in two hours to pick up the results." Director Guo waved his hand casually, dismissing Li Chu and his wife.
"Okay, we'll head over there now. Thank you, Director Guo."
Seeing that Director Guo had lost interest in talking to him, Li Chu shrugged and walked out.
Ding Qiunan followed closely behind him.
Li Chu knew his wife was frightened today, but he didn't know how to comfort her. He only knew that his heart was filled with anger and he wanted to vent it.
After leaving the laboratory, Li Chu went directly to the security department and used their phone to call Director Liu's office.
He did not intend to involve the security department in this matter.
The call was answered quickly.
"Director Liu, this is Li Chu. Could you please come over in two hours? I have something to attend to. If you don't have time, you can send someone over instead."
When Director Liu on the other end of the phone heard that Li Chu had something to do again, he was at his wits' end. After thinking for a moment, he asked, "Why do you want to go over in two hours?"
"The test results won't be available until then."
Alright, Director Liu didn't ask any more questions and agreed.
After hanging up the phone, Li Chu greeted the security staff and then led Ding Qiunan back to the clinic.
After closing the door to the consultation room, Li Chu picked up his wife and carried her to the bedside behind the curtain, where he placed her on the bed.
"What are you doing?" Ding Qiunan asked, somewhat bewildered.
"Take a nap," she said, taking a blanket from the closet.
"I can't sleep, my heart is pounding." Ding Qiunan looked at her husband pitifully.
"Sleep peacefully, I'll sit by your bed and keep you company, I won't go anywhere else."
Hearing him say that, Ding Qiunan lay down on the bed fully clothed and pulled the blanket over herself.
Li Chu pulled up a chair and sat on the edge of the bed, gently stroking her face: "Close your eyes and sleep, don't think about anything, I'm right here."
"Mmm," Ding Qiunan obediently closed her eyes.
Seeing his wife's eyelashes fluttering slightly, Li Chu knew she wouldn't be able to fall asleep anytime soon. He leaned down and kissed her forehead, then lay down beside the bed and softly hummed a song to her.
After a long while, Ding Qiunan's breathing gradually calmed down. Li Chu slowly pulled his arm out of her arms and sat quietly by the bed, looking at his wife's sleeping face.
After an unknown amount of time, a knock on the door startled Li Chu awake.
He glanced at his wife, who was still fast asleep on the bed, stood up, drew the curtains, and went to open the door.
The person knocking on the door was Director Guo from the laboratory. As soon as the door opened, he asked, "Dr. Li, what's going on? I saw on your envelope that it was addressed to your spouse. Why would someone send something like this?"

As he spoke, Director Guo waved the lab report in his hand.
"Director Guo, what did you find in the test results? We still don't know who sent it."
"Take a look for yourself," Director Guo said, handing over the lab report.
After taking it, Li Chu looked directly at the bottom conclusion: Arsenic trioxide.
"Director Guo, what is this?"
"Commonly known as arsenic."
The concise and straightforward answer made Li Chu stare wide-eyed at Director Guo.
"Don't look at me like that. Yes, this is arsenic."
Li Chu thought for a moment and asked, "Director Guo, I remember that arsenic is poisonous only if it is ingested, right?"
Director Guo nodded: "What you said is not wrong."
