Li Chu took a long time to take the patient's pulse this time. After putting down the patient's right hand, he didn't say anything, but went directly to the other side and took the pulse again.
This time it was much faster; he stopped in less than two minutes and let out a soft sigh. Everyone stared at him at that movement.
Li Chu thought for a moment and said, "Some organs in my body have already started to deteriorate, and my physical condition is not optimistic. Two years ago, it might have been better, but now the chances of a cure are slim."
Everyone was extremely disappointed upon hearing this.
The middle-aged man stared intently at Li Chu and asked, "Dr. Li, do you mean there's still hope?"
“Director Chen, let me ask,” Dean Zhang said. “Xiao Li, tell me your thoughts.”
Li Chu thought for a moment and then explained his treatment plan.
"How confident are you?" Dean Zhang asked.
"Hmm... I'm not sure I can completely cure her, but with my method, I'm 70-80% confident I can keep the old lady alive for another two years. Any longer and I won't be able to help her."
"Director Chen, what do you think?" Dean Zhang asked the middle-aged man.
"Let's proceed with Dr. Li's treatment plan. Dr. Li, is there anything else you need?"
"Just give me some cotton swabs and alcohol." As he spoke, Li Chu took out a leather bag containing acupuncture needles from his pocket, which was actually his spatial storage.
After the alcohol swabs were brought and disinfected, Li Chu had them turn the old lady to her side and insert several needles into her back. Every minute, the needles were rotated. Half an hour later, Li Chu removed the needles and let out a long sigh of relief.
"Alright, that's all for today. The old lady will wake up in half an hour. I'll go back and think about the prescription. You can have someone come and pick it up later. I'll tell him the specific way to take it."
Dean Zhang said, "Okay, Xiao Li, you can go back to your office now. Someone will be coming over in a bit."
Li Chu greeted everyone and then went back to his clinic.
When I entered the consultation room, the two people were still studying. I greeted them and sat down at the table to start figuring out how to write a prescription. It took them quite a while to finish, writing and drawing.
He picked up his large tea mug, took a sip of the now-cold tea, and finally felt relieved.
He stopped thinking about the patient and leaned back in his chair to rest with his eyes closed.
Li Chu didn't know how much time had passed when he heard someone come in and opened his eyes. It was the three young people who had been in the ward.
The man in military uniform said, "Hello Dr. Li, that patient was my grandmother. My name is Chen Xiangdong." Pointing to the side, he added, "This is my second brother, Chen Xiangnan, and this is my younger sister, Chen Xiangli. My grandmother has just woken up. Thank you, Dr. Li." The two women beside him also thanked him profusely.
Li Chu smiled and said, "You're welcome. It's my duty."
Then he handed the prescription sheet with the medicine written on it to Chen Xiangdong and carefully instructed him on how to use it and the precautions.
"I will go back to check on things in five days. If the situation is stable, I can go back to recuperate then."
The three thanked him again before leaving.
It was almost time to leave work, so Li Chu stopped reading, opened his drawer, took out his classic aluminum lunchbox, and prepared to eat lunch at the cafeteria.
Soon the announcement for the end of the workday came on, and Li Chu picked up his lunchbox and headed to the cafeteria. Luo Qicheng and Yang Xiaohong both brought their own lunches. They both had families to support, unlike Li Chu who only needed to eat and had no one else to worry about. Although the cafeteria food was cheap, it still required food coupons and money, which the two of them couldn't bear to spend.
After eating, I rested on the table for a while, and the afternoon passed by between seeing a doctor and reading.
After getting off work in the afternoon, Li Chu ate dinner at a state-run restaurant not far from the hospital. He really didn't want to go back and cook, mainly because Li Chu was a meat lover. If he cooked meat in that courtyard, the whole courtyard would smell it. In this era when others couldn't even get enough to eat, eating meat was a sin.
After finishing my meal, I walked to the courtyard gate and watched the third and first uncles play chess for a while. We chatted for a bit before I went home.
Same routine as always: reading, sleeping. Learning makes me happy!
The next few days were uneventful. During this time, Li Chu went to give the old lady a follow-up check-up. Her recovery was going quite well, so Li Chu adjusted her prescription and discharged her to recuperate at home.
On Sunday, during his day off, Chen Xiangdong invited Li Chu for drinks. All three of Chen's children were present. Li Chu had also learned that their father, Director Chen, was the deputy director of the General Office of the State Council—a high-ranking official. He didn't try to curry favor with him and treated him with normalcy. Chen Xiangdong was a deputy company commander in a unit near Beijing. His younger brother, Chen Xiangnan, was studying mathematics at Peking University, and his younger sister, Chen Xiangli, was studying education at a normal university.
The four of them chatted and laughed at the dinner table, and Chen Xiangli frequently toasted him. Li Chu didn't think that anyone was interested in him; it was probably just a patient's family expressing their gratitude to the doctor. He had a very clear understanding of himself; he was just an ordinary person, of average height (1.78 meters) and average appearance, except for his bright eyes. Perhaps because he was a doctor and had a slight obsession with cleanliness, Li Chu always presented himself impeccably and neatly, and his home was also tidy and clean, not giving the impression of a single man's home.
Li Chu had no ulterior motives towards the girl. It was best to avoid getting involved with these privileged kids from the compound. He should just consider them as three friends he could get along with.
Staggering home after drinking, he felt a slight heat in the house. It was late April, the weather was warming up, and the stove couldn't stay indoors any longer. He had planned to dismantle the chimney and move the stove out today, but after drinking so much, he couldn't do anything. Sigh, drinking makes things difficult; he should drink less in the future. It's fortunate that Li Chu's physical condition is getting better and better; he hadn't been taken down even in a three-on-one fight today. After washing his face and feet and drying himself off, he lay down on the bed, feeling drowsy. Sometimes he felt strange; it was normal to have his body strengthened after transmigrating, but it seemed a bit abnormal to be strengthening it for two years. Oh well, he decided not to think about it anymore; thinking too much would give him a headache. Anyway, he hadn't seen any negative effects yet. Lost in these thoughts, he soon fell asleep.
