Li Chu's words finally made them realize what was happening.
Yeah, it's not like we're leaving right now, so why are we all so upset?
Wang Jiayuan stopped crying after hearing her uncle's words, and looked at her brother with sobs, asking, "Brother, aren't you leaving now?"
"No, I have an exam in August," Wang Jiadong shook his head at his sister.
"Brother, you mustn't lie to me."
Wang Jiadong was a little dumbfounded: "I'm not lying to you, didn't Uncle just say that too?"
Wang Jiayuan then looked at Li Chu and asked loudly, "Uncle, my brother isn't leaving now, is he?"
"Yes, he's not leaving now. Look, you've made your younger siblings cry too."
Wiping away her tears, Wang Jiayuan jumped off her brother's lap and ran over, saying, "Uncle, Aunt, put them in the stroller so I can play with them."
The two little ones stopped crying after being picked up by them and put in the stroller for Wang Jiayuan to play with them. The adults sat together and continued chatting.
That evening, in the living room, Li Chu lay on the sofa, with Ding Qiunan clinging tightly to him.
After a long while, Ding Qiunan finally let out a long breath.
Li Chu lay there, gently stroking her back with both hands.
Ding Qiunan rested her head on his chest and murmured, "Li Chu, when can we sleep separately from the child? It's so uncomfortable to sleep on the sofa every time."
Li Chu said with a wry smile, "Wife, the baby is not even a year old yet, and you already want to sleep separately from them?"
"Isn't it inconvenient?"
After listening to his wife's words, Li Chu couldn't help but worry about the future of his two children. He felt that his wife was a bit unreliable.
He patted his wife's smooth back: "Just bear with it, how can we sleep separately when she's so young?"
"Hmph," Ding Qiunan raised her head, rested her chin on his chest, and pouted.
Li Chu was amused by his wife's expression and ruffled her hair: "Alright, think about how our sister reacted when she heard that Jia Dong was going to join the army today."
He paused for a moment and continued, "Children grow up very quickly. We can only accompany them for a dozen or so years, and a dozen or so years is just a blink of an eye."
Ding Qiunan thought about her husband's words carefully and nodded: "You're right, then I'll spend more time with them from now on."
She patted Li Chu's chest and said, "I'm telling you, you're not allowed to touch me until the child sleeps separately from us, understand?"
Ding Qiunan's words left Li Chu speechless: "No, you can't do this to me, honey. Does sleeping separately have anything to do with our exercise?"
"Of course it's related. It's inconvenient with the child around, and the sofa isn't comfortable. I prefer to be in bed," Ding Qiunan said matter-of-factly.
"Hey, I'll just buy a bed for the study later."
"Okay, that's settled then. You're not allowed to touch me until the bed is bought. Now carry me to take a shower."
Li Chu sat up, picked up his wife, and stood up: "What's settled is settled. We can only buy a bed next time we have a break. There's still a week left."
Reaching the bathroom door, Li Chu opened it with his foot and shook his head: "You think it's possible that you won't let me touch you for so long? You're overthinking it, honey."
After going inside, he hooked the door shut with his foot. Li Chu's voice came from inside the bathroom again: "Come on, I'm going to teach you a lesson today and make you obedient. Let's see if you'll still be naughty with me."
Immediately afterwards, Ding Qiunan's laughter could be faintly heard coming from the bathroom.
Xiao Hei ran out of the bedroom, tilted its head towards the bathroom, then went back into the bedroom to continue watching its two sleeping owners on the bed.
The owners are both so unreliable; what will happen if it doesn't follow behind and take care of things?
When Li Chu returned home from get off work that afternoon, he discovered something very strange.
"Auntie, where's Xiao Hei? He's usually always around the two kids, why isn't he here today?" Li Chu said, whistling twice into the house.
"Stop calling. It seems to have run away around noon. It's been like this for the past few days, but I don't know why it hasn't come back yet. I even went out to check the other day, but I didn't see it. The two kids were sleeping at home, so I didn't look for it, thinking it would come back on its own."
"Hey, this guy." Li Chu put down his bag and said to Ding Qiunan, "Qiunan, you cook first, I'll go out and check on things."
He first ran into the bedroom to check on the child and found that Wen Hui had already woken up and was lying there, biting her toes and curling her toes. When she saw Li Chu, she put her toes down and mumbled something incomprehensible.
Li Chu went over and picked up his daughter. Seeing that his son still showed no signs of waking up, he carried his daughter outside.
"Auntie, Wenhui has woken up. I'll carry her out."
Aunt Wang leaned back in her recliner in the yard: "Alright, you go ahead. I'll leave when Xiao Meng comes to pick me up."
Li Chu felt bad for Aunt Wang running around like this every day, but he had no choice. He couldn't just ask his mother-in-law to leave the house and come over to take care of the child.
Aunt Wang herself was quite happy about it. Anyway, she didn't have much to do now, Uncle Wang didn't go out, and her three sons didn't have any girlfriends yet, let alone when she would be able to hold her grandson.
Back then, Li Chu discussed with her about sending the child to daycare when he turned one, but Aunt Wang was unhappy and wouldn't let her send him. She kept an eye on him.
Li Chu carried his daughter out the gate, first letting her urinate, then instead of going to the main road, he wandered around the alleys searching for her, whistling occasionally.
Wenhui was in his arms, and she would occasionally imitate him, blowing "poof poof" sounds.
I walked around the alley and asked a few elderly people there, but they all said they hadn't noticed.
The people living in the nearby alleys all know his dog, because his dog is the most special one, with all black fur.
Li Chu even had someone look at his dog. The person who knew dogs told him that Xiao Hei was probably a mix of a wolfhound and a mongrel, but he couldn't explain why it was all black.
"Oh no, I hope Xiao Hei has been kidnapped." Li Chu muttered to himself as he carried his daughter back home.
Wenhui, who was in her arms, probably heard the familiar words and made a "hehe" sound.
This discovery made Li Chu quite happy; was his daughter starting to learn to speak?
Li Chu, nicknamed "Little Black," didn't specifically teach her to say "daddy" or "mommy," but instead continued to say the dog's name.
Wen Hui paused, looking at him with some confusion, and then let out a "heh".
It seemed she had truly begun to unconsciously learn to speak. Li Chu carried Wen Hui as they walked, calling out "Xiao Hei" to her. The daughter in his arms also made occasional soft "heh" sounds.
When they got home, Aunt Wang had already left, and Xiao Hei still hadn't returned.
