Also, the money Jiang Cheng used to buy his sister a job was probably asked for from these two people.
Moreover, it was Jiang Cheng who ordered these two people to castrate his sister's ex-husband.
In other words, these two people didn't get anything in return; they gave a lot first.
"Old Fan, do you think Jiang Cheng might be deliberately using us?"
"I can't say for sure either, we can only pin our hopes on him."
"By the way, why did he go to see that pickpocket that night?" the bearded man asked, frowning.
"Who knows? Maybe that pickpocket was his informant. They didn't meet for long, and I don't know what they talked about. The two of them were just standing on the side of the road, and I couldn't get close to them."
It was a coincidence that I followed him that night. I originally intended to go find him, but I didn't expect him to be able to sneak out at night, so I quietly followed him.
The bearded man scratched his head, looking conflicted. "Forget it, I'll get up early tomorrow morning and go check on him. I doubt he'd dare lie to us. Don't forget he has a sister and niece. If you push him too far, I'll bring them all over."
The man from the supply and marketing cooperative waved his hand and said, "Old Fan, things haven't come to that yet. Don't forget this is Beijing. It's best not to do anything rash. If we hadn't kept quiet for the past ten years or so, we'd probably be buried with grass growing dozens of meters high by now."
"Hey, how come that couple is so good at keeping secrets? We've been looking for them for so many years, and the only thing we know is that they have two children. But we can't find out whether they're boys or girls, or how old they are," the bearded man asked, puzzled.
"Tch," the man from the supply and marketing cooperative scoffed, "Don't you even think about what those two do? They must have made arrangements long ago. The people we've been in contact with are too low-level. We can't even get in touch with those who are a little higher up. Do you think we can find out the background of a high-ranking official with just the few scraps we throw out? What a joke."
"Alright, don't worry about it. As long as we keep an eye on Jiang Cheng, we'll be fine. I don't think he's lying to us; we still have some leverage over him."
"That's all we can do now, just wait." The bearded man shook his head helplessly.
The two people in the room then stopped talking about that topic and started chatting about romance and the secret brothels in the north of the city.
Seeing that he couldn't hear anything useful, Wu Xiaoliu slowly withdrew.
Unexpectedly, that damn dog didn't bark when it came over, but now it's barking at him.
Seeing that things were going badly, Wu Xiaoliu jumped over the wall without thinking twice.
After turning over, by the moonlight, I could vaguely see that there was a large open space here, with nowhere to hide.
Footsteps could be heard coming from the other side of the wall. Wu Xiaoliu realized there was no way to run forward; it was all open space, and people could see him at a glance.
He could only run along the base of the wall for a dozen meters before steeling himself and silently flipping back over. As soon as he flipped over, he lay motionless on the ground.
Fortunately, the two people were only focused on watching from that side, and one of them even climbed over the wall to look.
"Old Fan, did you see anything?"
"No, this is just an open space. If there were someone here, they would see it no matter how fast they ran."
Here's a flashlight, check under the wall for it.
The bearded man sat on the wall, took the flashlight, and shone it over the wall again, but after looking for a long time, he found nothing.
"Damn it, there's nothing here, not even a mouse. What's this dead dog barking about?"
The bearded man jumped down from the wall, cursing and swearing.
"Are you sure there's nothing there?" the salesman asked again, still not entirely convinced.
“You know, there’s a huge open space outside this wall, not even a place to hide. We came out so quickly, how could we not have seen anyone if there really was someone?” The bearded man patted the dirt off his clothes, looked at the dog next to him with a vengeance, and kicked it.
"Get out of here, I'll stew you sooner or later, what are you yelling about?"
He kicked the dog, and it ran towards the house.
"Come on, Lao Fan, let's go inside." The man from the supply and marketing cooperative grabbed the bearded man's arm and led him toward the house.
Wu Xiaoliu lay on the ground, not daring to lift his head, cursing the dog in his mind.
He slowly crawled backward, trying to get as far away from them as possible, since the spot where he was lying was still a bit too close to the two people.
Hearing the footsteps of the two people receding into the distance, Wu Xiaoliu finally raised his head and quickened his crawling pace.
Following the light shining from the doorway, Wu Xiaoliu saw that the two people had reached the doorway and were now tiptoeing back to where he had climbed over the wall earlier.
"How cunning!" Wu Xiaoliu cursed inwardly. Then he lay there, too afraid to move.
The place where he is now lying is more than ten meters away from where he was before, and this place is much safer than the previous one.
He looked up at the two people, but could only vaguely make out their shadows.
The two figures quietly took a few steps toward the wall, then suddenly ran up and jumped over it. This time, both of them climbed over and turned on their flashlights to shine on the other side of the wall.
There really was nothing there.
"I suspect the dog probably saw a mouse."
"Let's go, it's getting late, I should head back. Old Fan, remember to visit Jiang Cheng again tomorrow."
This time, the two of them didn't go inside; instead, they walked straight towards the front door.
"Hoo," Wu Xiaoliu remained lying on the ground, too afraid to move, but slowly turned to look at the gate.
He heard the front door open, then close again a moment later, and saw a bearded man walking back into the house with a flashlight.
Wu Xiaoliu didn't move, patiently lying there waiting.
Half an hour passed, and the bearded man suddenly came out of the house and shouted, "Alright, so much time has passed, now we can be sure no one is here."
Immediately afterward, the voice of the salesman came from the doorway: "It seems I was indeed being paranoid, but it's always better to be cautious."
"Alright, Lao Fan, I'm really leaving this time. Come over and close the door."
Listening to their conversation, Wu Xiaoliu let out a soft sigh of relief; he had almost left just now.
The light by the door was turned on, and two people stood there talking.
Wu Xiaoliu had lost interest in listening any longer. Taking advantage of the fact that the two people weren't paying attention, he quietly walked to the spot where he had first climbed in and climbed out again.
It was very close to the gate from here. After Wu Xiaoliu climbed out, he didn't move. He just stood by the wall and looked in the direction of the gate.
