Chapter 290 Class

The bell rang to signal the end of the workday just a few minutes later.

Ding Qiunan and a female colleague who looked to be about the same age walked out chatting and laughing.

Seeing her husband standing at the door waiting, Ding Qiunan greeted her colleague and then came over.

Her colleague glanced curiously at Li Chu, who had an ordinary appearance.

It seems a bit hard to understand why Ding Qiunan, who is so beautiful and has such great skin, married this guy.

However, this also made her realize that her new colleague's partner also worked at the main hospital.

This morning, as soon as Ding Qiunan arrived at the pharmacy, the men there all started to have their eyes gleaming with lust.

Later, when they introduced themselves and said their child was almost four years old, it was like a bucket of cold water being poured over their head.

"Let's go eat in the canteen," Li Chu said with a smile, looking at his wife in her military uniform.

"You've tidied up your office?"

"Uncle Lin has had someone clean it up. I'll give you the key later. After you finish eating, you can go there for your lunch break as usual. I'll be going there to teach at 1 p.m. from now on."

"Don't you take a lunch break?" Ding Qiunan asked in surprise.

"There's no rest; the schedules for those students who come for further training are very tight."

After getting their food at the cafeteria, Li Chu saw that there were hardly any tables available, so he led his wife to a private room at the back.

The main hospital originally had three separate canteens: large, medium, and small.

The small canteen is for hospital leaders, while the medium canteen is for mid-level cadres within the hospital.

However, this is a special period, and all the small and medium-sized canteens have closed, leaving only the large canteen.

However, after getting their food, these leaders, both big and small, no longer had to squeeze into the large tables outside; they could eat in the private rooms at the back.

Ding Qiunan's female colleague had originally planned to squeeze in with them, but she watched helplessly as they went into the back private room to eat. The security guard at the door didn't stop them, so how could she not know that this new colleague's partner was a leader?

After dinner, Li Chu led his wife to his office and gave her a key, telling her to rest there.

He carried a teacup filled with water and a book on the basics of traditional Chinese medicine to the large conference room at the back of the hospital, which was specifically used for teaching.

Many students had already arrived in the classroom. Li Chu did not sit on the podium, but instead sat in the middle seat of the first row near the aisle.

This year, there are more than 130 students who have come for further studies. Half of them have already arrived and are sitting in their seats, reading their books attentively.

The huge classroom was packed with seventy or eighty people, but all you could hear was the sound of pages turning.

People walked briskly into the classroom one after another, and everyone was very conscious of not speaking. Occasionally one or two people would speak softly, and they would only talk about the content of the lesson.

"Comrade, where is your seat? We've already arranged it, haven't we?"

Li Chu, who was reading a book, did not notice that two people were standing next to him.

Upon hearing the sound, he closed his book, stood up, and nodded apologetically to the two female students standing beside the desk.

"I'm so sorry, please have a seat." After saying that, Li Chu walked out of his seat and looked back. The seats were almost full.

Because of the commotion in front, the people reading in the back all looked up.

Li Chu picked up his books and teacup from the desk, walked directly to the podium, and sat down in his chair.

The students below seemed to be stunned for a moment, and the entire classroom fell silent.

Li Chu raised his hand to check the time; it was already one o'clock. He cleared his throat and said, "Alright, it's time. Let's begin class."

“None of you know me. I’m your substitute teacher for this year’s Basic Traditional Chinese Medicine course. My name is Li Chu, and I’m the deputy director of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine at our main hospital.”

As he spoke, he stood up, took the chalk, and wrote his name on the blackboard behind him.

The trainees below were extremely distraught.

So young to be teaching them, and a deputy director at that? This can't be real.

Li Chu's face is so deceptive; he looks like he's in his early twenties.

Judging by his face, none of the students below him are younger than him.

It was the military, after all, and their discipline was very strong. Despite the shock, no one whispered to each other; they all sat there upright.

"Let me ask you something first. Are there any of you who have studied traditional Chinese medicine before? If so, please raise your hand so I can see."

In a classroom with over a hundred students, only three raised their hands.

Li Chu nodded, gesturing for them to put their hands down.

Fortunately, it was within his expectations.

Sitting in his chair, he put the book that had been distributed aside.

"You don't need to open the book we gave you. Just take notes."

The students below hurriedly closed their books, took out their pens, opened their notebooks, and were ready to record what Li Chu said.

"When traditional Chinese medicine diagnoses a disease, we say that we can basically tell the disease by looking at three little fingers, a small pillow, and a small tongue."

As he spoke, Li Chu took out the pulse pillow he had brought and held it up.

"This is the little pillow I was talking about, also called a pulse pillow."

He then raised his hand again: "The three little fingers refer to the index, middle, and ring fingers. As for the uvula, you all have that."

"What are these three little fingers for? They're for taking the pulse. In traditional Chinese medicine, we say that taking the pulse involves these three fingers on the left hand, which correspond to the heart, liver, and kidneys, while the right hand corresponds to the lungs, spleen, and life force."

A single pulse diagnosis can often reveal underlying internal organ problems. This is because Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnoses using the four diagnostic methods: observation, auscultation, inquiry, and palpation. Most people have heard of these methods, and palpation refers to taking the pulse. TCM also uses the Eight Principles of Differentiation to determine whether a condition is Yin or Yang, deficiency or excess, cold or heat. Treatment is as follows: heat is treated with cold, cold with heat, deficiency with tonification, and excess with purging.

Li Chu paused here, took a sip of water, and then continued.

"What does that mean? If your pulse is fast, it means you have heat, and you need to clear the heat. If your pulse is slow, it means you have cold, and you need to warm the yang and dispel the cold."

If you are deficient, then your pulse will be weak, and you need to tonify it. If your pulse is wiry and slippery, then you need to drain it.

Therefore, in the simplest terms, traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis can reveal the deficiency or excess of your internal organs, as well as their cold or heat patterns and whether they are internal or external. A floating pulse indicates an external disease, while a deep pulse indicates an internal disease.

Of course, it's not that simple. I'll explain in detail how to distinguish pulse patterns later.

After taking another sip of water, Li Chu looked at the trainees below and asked, "How are you, comrades? Can you remember it?"

The students below all nodded. He wasn't actually speaking very fast; as long as you paid attention, you could keep up and take notes.

"Next, let's talk about the tongue. In traditional Chinese medicine, the tongue is very important; it's like a diagnostic instrument."
