When Li Chu woke up in the morning, he felt a tightness in his chest. When he opened his eyes, he was surprised to see that Xiao Ding was sleeping on top of him.
Seeing that it was still early, Li Chu gently picked up the girl and put her aside. He then got up, dressed, and went downstairs. He took Xiao Hei out for a run and bought some fried dough sticks and soy milk on the way back.
When he got home, Ding Qiunan was already sitting on the sofa, her face pale and listless. She didn't get up when she saw him come in, but just forced a smile.
Seeing her appearance, Li Chu knew that the girl was about to have her period. She would always start having stomach pains two days before her period. He quickly put down what he was doing, went over to wash his hands, took out the acupuncture needles from his bag, disinfected them, and then had the girl lie down on the sofa before inserting the needles into her.
Currently, Li Chu doesn't really have a cure for this stomach pain; he can only give the girl acupuncture whenever she's in pain to relieve it.
Just a few minutes after the acupuncture, Ding Qiunan felt much better; at least her stomach pain had subsided. Li Chu went into the kitchen and made her a cup of brown sugar water. Although drinking it wouldn't do much good, it would at least provide some psychological comfort.
After the acupuncture was removed, the girl felt much better, and her complexion gradually returned to normal. After the two finished their meal, Ms. Ding rode her bicycle away first because the road was far away.
After cleaning up, Li Chu took the money out of the cabinet and put it away. If she had time today, she would go to the neighborhood office to complete the house registration procedures. She also prepared food and drinks for Xiao Hei before heading off to work.
After arriving at the hospital, he first greeted the director, then went to the hospital office to cancel his leave, before returning to his office. By the time he got there, Dr. Luo had already cleaned up.
"Dr. Luo, you're here early! The two doctors from the countryside next door have returned."
"Good morning, Dr. Li, congratulations!" Luo Qicheng greeted Li Chu with a smile.
"Thank you, thank you, have some candy." Li Chu handed him a piece of candy.
Luo Qicheng took it: "Yes, I'll eat this wedding candy."
The two chatted for a few minutes at the desk, and then Luo Qicheng started reading again. The evaluation was less than a month away, which was related to his salary. He had been reading whenever he had free time lately, and he was under a lot of pressure.
Seeing that there was nothing much to do early in the morning, Li Chu greeted the director and rode his bicycle to his sister's place.
When I got to the neighborhood office, I gave the money directly to my sister and asked her to handle the paperwork for me.
"Qiu Nan agreed?" Li Qin asked Li Chu as she took the money.
He nodded: "I agree. Qiu Nan thinks it's a good thing to buy herself a house."
“I talked to your brother-in-law about this yesterday, and he also thinks it's a good idea to buy it. He told me to tell you what you need when you're cleaning the house, and he'll figure something out. Who are you planning to hire to clean the house?”
"Please thank your brother-in-law for me. I already spoke with Boss Fu yesterday; he's been to this place before."
Li Qin replied, "Okay, you know how skilled Boss Fu is. Once the formalities are completed, you can come and pick it up yourself when you have time. It should be ready in the next day or two."
"Okay, I'll be going now, I still have to go to work."
As soon as Li Chu returned to his office, Dr. Luo told him that the head of the department wanted him to come over. Li Chu found this a bit strange; he had spoken to the head of the department when he went out earlier, and the head of the department hadn't said anything.
With that thought in mind, I didn't stop and went straight to the director's office.
Seeing Li Chu enter, Director Liang said, pointing to the chair in front of his desk. After Li Chu sat down, he went straight to the point: "I just received a notice from the medical office that you will also be participating in the rating assessment this year."
Li Chu's eyes widened upon hearing this: "Director, is there a mistake? I've only been working for two years this year, that's not enough years of service."
"At first, I also thought the medical office had made a mistake in the notification. I specifically went to Vice President Zhang to ask, and he told me that it was correct. It was indeed about you, Li Chu, participating in this year's evaluation. He said that a leader from above had spoken to you. I called you over just to let you know and so you can prepare. Okay, that's all. You should spend more time reading books during this period."
Li Chu, feeling dizzy and disoriented, greeted the director and left, then stood at the door of his office and lit a cigarette.
A leader speaking on his behalf? Li Chu was filled with questions. What was going on? He didn't know any leaders in the health system. His brother-in-law? Impossible. It wasn't that he looked down on him, but his brother-in-law probably wasn't qualified yet. This wasn't just a job transfer; it was practically a promotion. Could it be Uncle Wang? That didn't make sense either. He'd just received a reply a while ago. The letter said he was farming in Hainan Island and that when he returned to Beijing, Li Chu should bring his wife to his home for a visit. It didn't mention this, and Uncle Wang wasn't the type to pull strings.
Thinking of Uncle Wang, Li Chu suddenly realized who had made the request. It must have been Director Chen. No doubt about it, it was him. Only he had the ability to let someone cut in line with just a word.
Once he understood, Li Chu stopped worrying about it. As for the assessment, Li Chu said it was a piece of cake. It was just that he didn't have enough qualifications right now, otherwise getting a senior professional title would be a piece of cake.
The rest of the workday was uneventful. He saw patients when there were any, and read books when there were none. When he finally finished get off work in the afternoon, Li Chu took his lunchbox and bought two meat dishes from a restaurant to take home.
My wife is going to bleed for several days, so we need to give her some nourishing food. We can't cook meat dishes at home, so we can only buy them from restaurants.
When I returned to the courtyard, the women who didn't work were already busy, some washing vegetables, some cooking, and the aroma of food wafted through the air.
Yan Bugui was sitting in front of his house smoking when he saw Li Chu come in. He greeted her, "Little Chu, you're off work?"
Li Chu smiled and said, "Third Uncle, you're back early."
“We came in close together, and I just sat down here to have a smoke,” Yan Bugui said, flicking his cigarette ash.
The two chatted for a few minutes at the entrance.
"Uncle, please sit down first. I'll go back and cook. My wife will be back soon."
Back home, Li Chu first let Xiao Hei out to relieve itself in the yard. He then lit the coal stove in the kitchen and started steaming rice. Next, he turned on the honeycomb briquette stove in the living room, took out a cabbage, and prepared to stir-fry a vegetable dish later. With everything prepared, he waited for his wife to return.
Before long, Ding Qiunan returned. Riding a bicycle was fast, after all; no one else in the courtyard had returned yet.
As soon as Ding Qiunan entered the door, she said, "Li Chu, our Xiao Hei can pick people up now. When I came back, Xiao Hei was waiting for me at the gate. It barked as soon as it saw me and wagged its little tail happily."
Li Chu looked at Xiao Hei following Ding Qiunan in and realized that the little guy could now cross the threshold by himself. "I wonder how many months old this little thing is. He's changing every day these past few days."
As he spoke, Li Chu began preparing to cook the dishes.
