On the way back, Zhang Meng remembered the private job that Wu Yousheng asked her to take yesterday.
"Take it. Next time that person comes to you, tell him we'll take the job."
Zhang Meng glanced at Gu Mingtai who was driving. "Why did you agree to let me take this private job so readily this time? Weren't you mad at me the last time I took that job at the hospital?"
Gu Mingtai smiled and said, "Let's put this aside. Now that you've told me about this, I'm ready to go with you, so I'm not worried about you being in danger. Finally, if I'm not mistaken, there's something in that house that we can't imagine."
Zhang Meng couldn't wait to ask, "What is it?"
Gu Mingtai pursed his lips and shook his head honestly, "I don't know yet. I can only find out after I go there and take a look."
When the two of them arrived at Zhang's house by car, the kerosene lamp in Zhang's house was still burning.
Grandma Zhang, who was mending clothes for Zhang Meng and his sister in the main room, heard the noise and immediately put down the clothes in her hands and came out.
"Grandma, why aren't you asleep yet?" Seeing Grandma Zhang coming out, Zhang Meng got out of the car and immediately ran to her to support her.
Gu Mingtai, who got off the car next, also greeted Grandma Zhang.
"Why are you back so late? Did anything happen?" Grandma Zhang asked them.
"Nothing happened." The two of them came up with this excuse on the way.
"Grandma, you and Xiaomeng go in. I'm going back too." Gu Mingtai walked to the other side of Grandma Zhang and supported her.
As the two generations of grandparents and grandchildren had just entered the Zhang family’s gate, another military vehicle stopped at the door.
A soldier came down, looking anxious, and saluted Gu Mingtai. "Battalion Commander, there's an urgent order from above. There's a flood along the river, and we need to go there immediately to provide support."
Gu Mingtai replied to the young soldier with a serious expression, "I know. We'll set off right away."
"Grandma, Xiaomeng, I'm sorry, I have to go on a mission again. Grandma, I think you may have to worry about my marriage with Xiaomeng."
Gu Mingtai looked at the grandparents and grandchildren with some helplessness and reluctance.
Grandma Zhang said to him gently, "Why bother with this? You're on a mission for the people. Grandma and Xiaomeng are proud of you. Don't worry. I'll take care of your wedding to Xiaomeng. I'll make sure everything is prepared for you so you can marry Xiaomeng as soon as you return."
"Thank you, grandma." Gu Mingtai said with emotion. He had always known that although Grandma Zhang was an old woman from the countryside, her thoughts were not like hers at all. No wonder his master still missed her so much.
Grandma Zhang glanced at her granddaughter and sighed softly. She knew that the young couple must have a lot of private conversations to share, so it would be better for her, an old woman, not to get in their way.
"Grandma went in first. You two, please hurry up and say whatever you want to say." The two of them stood there and watched Grandma Zhang go into the house.
After a while, Zhang Meng looked at the man in front of her with red eyes, "Gu Mingtai, be careful when fighting the flood, and don't try to be brave. I just want you to come back safely."
Her heart was so small, so small that she just wanted the man in front of her to be safe and sound.
"I know. I will take good care of myself, and you should take care of me too. I originally promised to accompany you to see the old house, but unexpectedly this happened. If you want to go to the old house, you can go, but you have to bring your weasel with you."
Zhang Meng nodded, "Okay, I understand. Are you leaving now?" Her eyes became even redder.
When Gu Mingtai saw her like this, he suddenly felt uncomfortable and really wanted to just stay.
"Don't cry. It makes me feel bad when you cry." His voice became gentle involuntarily.
Before he met her, he always thought that he would be a person without desires like his master. When his merits were fulfilled, he would become a monk like his master. But he didn't expect that no matter how much he planned, he couldn't account for the little woman in front of him.
"Okay, I won't cry." Knowing that this man was going to carry out dangerous tasks such as flood control, in order not to make him worry, Zhang Meng quickly forced back the tears in her eyes.
But what she didn't know was that her pretending to be strong made him feel even more distressed.
"Wait for me at home. When I return from this mission, we'll get married."
"Okay, I'll wait for you to come back." Seeing her worried look, Gu Mingtai suddenly thought of what he wanted to do most right now.
He pulled her into his arms with all his strength and hugged her tightly, then quickly leaned over and kissed her on the face.
A youthful and sweet feeling slowly rose in Zhang Meng's heart.
It's as sweet as falling into a jar full of honey.
She slowly placed her hand on her heart. So this is what it feels like to be loved, cared for and spoiled.
This feeling was something she had never experienced in her previous life.
After the kiss, Gu Mingtai's heart was pounding. He seemed to have acted a little naughty towards his fiancée, but he did not regret it. On the contrary, he liked this comfortable feeling.
Seeing that time was running out, Gu Mingtai let go of the little woman in his arms and was about to take a step back. When their faces brushed against each other, a white woman's hand turned his face back, and then he felt something lightly touch his lips.
Looking at the blushing little woman, Gu Mingtai touched his lips which looked as if they had been touched by a dragonfly. He understood something in his heart and his eyes immediately showed infinite surprise. He didn't expect that this little woman would give him such a surprise.
Zhang Meng's face was as red as an apple at this time, and she felt a little regretful that she couldn't help but kiss the man's lips just now.
"Well, don't leave yet. I'll go in and get you something. I'll be back soon."
After making an excuse, Zhang Meng quickly ran into her room.
Gu Mingtai, who was left alone in the yard, laughed foolishly. The moonlight hanging high in the sky cast a halo of light, which just happened to shine on his silly face, making him look a little stupid.
After entering the house, Zhang Meng took several deep breaths, then touched her burning cheeks and packed a large bag of things in her room.
Outside, after waiting for a while, Gu Mingtai saw the little woman who had just run in coming out with a big bag in her hand.
"Here, you must keep these things and take them with you. Don't leave them behind, okay?" Gu Mingtai tilted a corner and took a look inside, and found some talisman papers, some medicine packets, and food.
They were all prepared for him by the little woman.
"Okay, I'll take it." He held it tightly in his hand.
Looking at the night, time was really running out. Gu Mingtai took a deep look at the little woman in front of him and said, "I'm leaving."
