Chapter 1: Plans Fail

As the train pulled away, Lin Chuchu felt a surge of joy watching the figure rushing towards her from the platform.

In her previous life, her father was a martyr, and her mother worked during the day and pasted cardboard boxes at night to support her.

Despite his young age, his hair had already turned gray.

She lived up to expectations, consistently ranking among the top three in her school's academic performance every year.

He skipped grades and officially graduated at the age of sixteen, in his second year of high school, because university was canceled.

When I got home that night, I found my mother collapsed on the floor.

She lost her father at the age of three and her mother at the age of sixteen.

The factory gave her a subsidy and a work station.

This very workstation became her death warrant.

On the third day after my mother died, my aunt took over the house, and her family of five moved in without any pretense, demanding workstations as soon as they arrived.

Lin Chuchu refused and was beaten until her head bled. She was forbidden from leaving the house, given no food, and forced to work every day.

Finally, unable to bear it any longer, she agreed to give her workstation to her cousin.

That wasn't the end of it. Less than six months later, her aunt arranged for her to marry a forty-year-old man.

She was constantly beaten and verbally abused; she lost both of her pregnancies and was eventually beaten to death.

When Lin Chuchu opened her eyes again, she looked at the familiar room, which was now empty, with every corner still showing the warmth of the past.

Just then, there was a knock on the door. Lin Chuchu, enduring her dizziness, stood up and saw the calendar on the wall, realizing that it was the day after her mother's death.

Lin Chuchu's eyes reddened. Why not a day earlier? A day earlier, she could have saved her mother.

The doorbell rang again. Before Lin Chuchu could think further, she walked to the door and opened it.

The person outside the door was the factory director, who was also her father's comrade-in-arms. Seeing her haggard appearance, he couldn't help but feel sorry for her.

"Chuchu, are you alright? Don't worry, no one will bully you when you go to work at the factory."

Lin Chuchu bit her lip and said in a trembling voice, "Uncle Zheng, I want to go to the countryside. I want to sell my workstation."

In a short time, Lin Chuchu accepted her rebirth and made plans.

Although Uncle Zheng and her parents' coworkers at the factory could take care of her to some extent, just like in her previous life, she couldn't protect her workstation, and her aunt's family wouldn't let her off the hook.

She wanted revenge, but her primary concern was surviving.

Uncle Zheng looked at Lin Chuchu in shock and said with heartache, "Chuchu, going to the countryside is too hard. It's more suitable for a girl like you to stay in the factory."

Lin Chuchu smiled slightly and said gratefully, "Uncle Zheng, I know you mean well, but my aunt's family will definitely not let this opportunity pass. Rather than letting them have it for free, I might as well sell the workstation."

My mother almost severed ties with my aunt, which led to unpleasantness, and they even caused a scene at the factory several times.

Uncle Zheng frowned and remained silent for a long time.

The atmosphere was heavy and oppressive.

"Uncle Zheng, please, it's too late if we wait any longer, they'll arrive tomorrow!"

Uncle Zheng took a drag of his cigarette, his gaze finally settling on Lin Chuchu.

"Okay, Uncle Zheng promises you."

The two moved quickly, and Lin Chuchu followed him to the office, where she sold her workstation.

These days, there are many people who want to sell their workstations. Uncle Zheng took charge and sold one for 600 yuan, which is a considerable sum in this day and age.

That afternoon, Uncle Zheng asked someone to pull strings and got Lin Chuchu registered at the educated youth office.

The next morning, as expected, my aunt and her family arrived. They started crying as soon as they entered the door, saying that they had moved in to take care of Lin Chuchu.

"Don't worry, Chuchu, with your aunt here, no one will bully you."

My aunt spoke with great conviction, but she couldn't hide the greed in her eyes.

Lin Chuchu didn't sleep all night, her eyes were red and swollen, and her eyes were filled with boundless hatred.

She appeared obedient, as if she agreed to whatever the other person said.

The two cousins searched the room thoroughly, even looking through Lin Chuchu's room.

Lin Chuchu knew, of course, that they were looking for money and tickets, but unfortunately, she had already secretly given the items to Uncle Zheng.

She has three more days; she can only depart in three days.

The room was empty, but they found only 5 yuan.

The older cousin curled his lip and cursed under his breath, "Poor bastard."

But money isn't important; what's important is the workspace.

They decided to use a conciliatory approach, hoping to coax Lin Chuchu into handing over her workstation willingly.

Dinner was plentiful, including a large bowl of braised pork.

Lin Chuchu ate very little, watching her two cousins eat quickly like hungry wolves, their mouths greasy. Although her aunt and uncle appeared reserved, they were not slow at all.

That's really unseemly.

Lin Chuchu took a couple of bites, but then couldn't eat anything more. So she put down her chopsticks and said she wanted to go back to her room to rest.

As soon as the door closed, Lin Chuchu seemed to lose all her strength and slowly slid down against the door.

The enemy was right in front of her, but she could do nothing.

But it doesn't matter, they'll get their comeuppance soon.

During the three days, her aunt's family didn't restrict her from going out.

On the third day, around noon, Lin Chuchu offered to give her workstation to her cousin, saying that all the formalities were completed and that they could go find Uncle Zheng themselves.

Auntie's smile stretched almost to her ears as she patted Lin Chuchu's shoulder, "Chuchu is so sensible. Don't worry, from now on, you'll be Auntie's child, and we'll treat you well."

Lin Chuchu kept her head down and didn't say anything. As she watched the family leave excitedly, a cold smile appeared on her lips.

As soon as they left, Lin Chuchu packed two pieces of clothing and went to Uncle Zheng's house.

Uncle Zheng's wife immediately handed her a large package when she saw her.
