Lin Chuchu didn't plan to go to the cafeteria for lunch. Instead, she asked the guard to get her lunch. After eating, Lin Chuchu went straight to bed and took a nap.
Without catching up on sleep, Lin Chuchu felt she couldn't take it anymore.
When people are extremely tired, they easily fall into a deep sleep, which helps them recover their energy.
Even just ten minutes of deep sleep can make a person feel much better.
Lin Chuchu was in this state.
After her afternoon nap, when Lin Chuchu woke up again, she felt incredibly energetic, and her translation efficiency increased significantly.
After getting off work, Lin Chuchu walked out of the office and immediately saw the leader standing at the door.
The leader frowned, as if he were pondering some difficult problem.
The leader seemed startled by Lin Chuchu's sudden appearance.
"Comrade Lin, how's today's work going?"
Lin Chuchu nodded, "It went very smoothly. I believe it will be all finished in a few more days."
"Sir, what can I do for you?"
The leader hesitated for a moment, but still decided to tell her.
“They called you from Beijing. It wasn’t a family member, it seems to be the Public Security Bureau. They want you to call back.”
Lin Chuchu was taken aback. The Public Security Bureau? Could it be that there was news from Mu Chen's side?
Anxious, she put the lunchbox in her arms into the guard's hand, saying, "Get me a meal later."
After saying that, he walked towards the elevator.
She felt a vague sense of unease, her biggest fear being that something would happen to Mu Chen.
The leader quickly followed, and in the elevator, he whispered to comfort him, "Maybe it's not a bad thing, Comrade Lin, don't think the worst."
Lin Chuchu forced a smile; how could she not be anxious?
She was afraid, afraid of receiving bad news from Mu Chen.
The guard escorted her to the phone while he went to get food for Lin Chuchu.
It's safe here, after all, the leader is right next to Lin Chuchu.
Lin Chuchu handed the phone number to the staff member, her palms sweating with nervousness.
The waiting was the hardest part. More than ten minutes passed before the food was finally delivered and the call finally went through.
"Hello, this is Lin Chuchu."
"Hello, Comrade Lin. I am the director of the Beijing Public Security Bureau. I am here to inform you that Comrade Mu Chen has completed his undercover mission..."
There was a pause on the other end, and Lin Chuchu knew just as well that what followed was the most important thing.
"And then...?"
"Comrade Mu Chen was injured during his last mission and his whereabouts are currently unknown..."
Boom~~
Lin Chuchu felt as if something in her mind had collapsed, leaving her stunned and unable to recover for a long time.
"Comrade Lin... Comrade Lin, are you still there?"
Lin Chuchu licked her lips, her eyes instantly reddening, and her hand holding the receiver trembled slightly.
She took a few deep breaths. "Yes...I'm here, Director."
"Our personnel and the military are doing their best to search for him. After analysis, we believe that Comrade Mu Chen has not yet contacted us. It is highly likely that he has amnesia, or that he was rescued by someone but has been held up by other matters."
"Because you are Comrade Mu Chen's lover and the person who knows him best, I hope you can come and help us find Mu Chen."
Lin Chuchu wanted to agree immediately, but she still had a mission to complete, and it wouldn't be appropriate to leave at this time.
Just as Lin Chuchu hesitated, the commander took the phone from the side and said in a deep voice.
"Hello, I am Comrade Lin's current military commander. We will arrange for Comrade Lin Chuchu to board the plane tomorrow."
The two leaders exchanged a few polite words on the phone before hanging up.
The commander turned and glanced at Lin Chuchu. Seeing that she was still in a daze, he knew that this incident had been a huge blow to her.
"Comrade Lin Chuchu, it seems you'll be working overtime tonight. I'll have your mentor assist you and assign two more people to translate the most difficult parts of those manuscripts."
Lin Chuchu nodded, choking back tears as she thanked the leader.
"Thank you, sir. I will do my best to complete the mission today."
She made up her mind: she wouldn't sleep tonight.
After dinner, Lin Chuchu returned to her office, where the old professor and two researchers were.
Seeing Lin Chuchu nod solemnly at her, all three of them had signed a confidentiality agreement, and none of them were allowed to talk about what happened in the office today.
The old professor patted Lin Chuchu on the shoulder, "Don't worry, Comrade Mu is a hero. He'll be safe and sound."
Lin Chuchu nodded, "Thank you, teacher. I know he'll be alright."
Everything will be alright, Lin Chuchu thought, and this belief sustained her.
The group selected all the important translations, one for Lin Chuchu and one for the old professor, with two others assisting.
With one more person, the process was much faster. It was the old professor's first time working with these translations, and he had to ask Lin Chuchu about some of the unfamiliar words.
Fortunately, there was space to assist.
Everyone had been working all day and was barely managing to work overtime. The old professor couldn't take it anymore and slept for a while on a small bed nearby around midnight.
The other two also took turns resting.
The room grew quieter and quieter, with only Lin Chuchu writing furiously. After finishing, she checked her work using the space.
Not only should I check my own copy, but I should also check the copy prepared by the old professor.
At this moment, Lin Chuchu did not feel sleepy at all; on the contrary, she was very energetic and didn't even drink much coffee.
The old professor only slept for three hours before getting up again to work with Lin Chuchu.
In the few days after Lin Chuchu leaves, the old professor will take over. It's best to get to know as many people as possible during this time.
