Chapter 137 The First Night in the Forest

But at this point, having something to eat is already a blessing; at least you don't have to eat dry rations.

So Lin Chuchu didn't say anything, but don't expect her to lend a hand; the giant snake isn't worthy of her personal attention.

It is possible to start a fire in the forest, but it requires a professional.

As noon approached, everyone found a place to rest. One soldier found a tree hollow, fiddled around inside for a while, and actually managed to start a fire inside.

Lin Chuchu stared in shock at the fact that not a single wisp of smoke was visible outside the tree hole, and that the soldier had even taken out seasonings and sprinkled them on the snake meat.

Lin Chuchu watched in amazement.

"Is your team fed this well on missions?"

The aroma quickly filled the air, and even Lin Chuchu couldn't help but swallow hard, let alone the other men.

The temporary chef, who was being watched by everyone, appeared calm on the surface. Of course, perhaps Lin Chuchu didn't notice, because the other person was dark-skinned and expressionless, and no change could be seen. He just increased his speed considerably.

"For a normal mission, we wouldn't be prepared this thoroughly. But this mission is going on for a long time, and we don't know when it will end. The rations we brought with us are definitely not enough, so we will need to hunt."

"Roasted food without salt tastes terrible. We will prepare some seasonings when appropriate."

The captain answered Lin Chuchu's question slowly and deliberately.

Lin Chuchu nodded, her eyes fixed on the snake meat, which was turning white. She kept telling herself this.

It's okay, it's just snake meat. We'll have to eat it sooner or later anyway, and snake meat is much better than compressed biscuits.

Soon, the snake meat was cooked and handed to the captain, who then waved the signed document in his hand at Lin Chuchu.

The meaning is clear: he's asking, "Do you want some?"

Lin Chuchu took the snake meat, but hesitated to move it for a long time. The others who had received the snake meat were all looking at Lin Chuchu curiously, wondering if she could eat it.

The group didn't pressure her, but they didn't know how long they would be together and that they would definitely be hunting other animals in the future.

Were they eating while Lin Chuchu watched?

Lin Chuchu hesitated for a while, but couldn't resist the aroma of the meat. She closed her eyes, gritted her teeth, and took a big bite of the meat.

They looked as if they were eating something disgusting.

The captain looked at Lin Chuchu with a meaningful gaze and a smile on his lips.

The others were amused by Lin Chuchu's actions and lowered their heads to eat their own portions.

As soon as the snake meat entered her mouth, Lin Chuchu's eyes lit up; it smelled delicious.

The older generation always said snake meat was delicious, and I never knew it was true.

Oh, it's a pity I can't make snake soup.

The python wasn't big, but it fed all eleven people, and they didn't want to eat anything else.

After a satisfying meal, everyone set off again.

Although Lin Chuchu had been to the forest several times, she couldn't tell which way to go.

Every time they walked for a while, the team leader would take out a map and a compass to determine which direction was which.

The air in the forest was humid, and it was especially uncomfortable to have clothes sticking to your body.

Lin Chuchu gritted her teeth and persevered, keeping up with the crowd, and occasionally standing up to straighten her back.

After walking for another three hours, Lin Chuchu finally couldn't help but tell the team leader to take a break.

Seeing the beads of sweat on Lin Chuchu's forehead, the team leader said, "Let's rest for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, we'll walk for another hour to find a suitable campsite."

Lin Chuchu plopped down on a nearby rock, panting heavily. She was exhausted. The thought of spending the next period of time in the forest made her feel mentally drained.

Unfortunately, there's no way she can back out now, and she needs to find Mu Chen.

The captain handed her a bottle of water and a piece of bread.

"Eat something first, don't exhaust yourself."

Lin Chuchu nodded, thanked her, took the bread, and began to eat it in large bites.

She needed to ensure she had enough energy and avoid getting injured, otherwise she would be a burden to the team.

Ten minutes passed quickly, and everyone stood up and continued moving forward.

Finally, before dark, the group arrived at a small lake and quickly took out their water bottles and filled them with water.

Finding a lake in the forest is lucky, at least you can replenish your water. But no one can guarantee that they will find a suitable water source again. So, you should still be careful when you drink water.

They decided to camp here tonight, but not by the lake, so they built a fire on the hillside next to the lake.

Lin Chuchu couldn't help much and could only watch them go hunting. She could only stay with the captain and pick up some dry wood from the side.

"Captain, why don't we choose to camp by the lake? Wouldn't it be more convenient?"

Lin Chuchu asked curiously, as she didn't really understand these things.

The captain answered her questions while he was busy.

“Large animals will come to the lake to drink, maybe bears and tigers. It’s not a good time for us to fight those animals right now, so try to stay away.”

Lin Chuchu nodded to indicate that she understood.

A small iron pot was placed on top of the fire, bubbling and boiling with mushroom and chicken soup, and rabbit meat was placed next to it.

These animals are all natural, green food, and taste delicious. If it weren't for their mission, they wouldn't be hunting in the forest. Even so, they only eat ordinary animals. They wouldn't dare touch those level 2 or 3 protected animals at all.

As darkness fell, Lin Chuchu drank the hot meat soup, feeling the chill in her body dissipate considerably.

After finishing her meal, Lin Chuchu quickly brushed her teeth and washed her face before going to sleep. She slept in a sleeping bag, which the team had specially prepared for her.
