People from their military hospital also arrived, setting up new tents nearby and treating the wounded.
"I knew it."
The doctor muttered to himself, and Lin Chuchu could hear the helplessness in his voice.
The doctor worked extremely quickly and finally stitched up the wounded soldier's wound. Now, only Lin Chuchu and another researcher were able to hold on.
"Can you two keep going? We're really short-handed."
Lin Chuchu nodded. "Doctor, I can manage."
The other person nodded as well.
"By the way, doctor, why are we out of anesthesia?"
Lin Chuchu asked curiously.
"The hospital was right in the epicenter of the earthquake. Most of the hospital was destroyed, and the pharmacy was also destroyed. Most of the medicinal materials were buried."
Lin Chuchu sighed, "Doctor, go ask our commander later when the follow-up supplies will arrive."
The doctor nodded.
With Lin Chuchu and the others' help, the doctors were able to treat the wounded much faster.
Lin Chuchu didn't know how the rescue operation was going, only that wounded people were being brought in, along with some medicine.
Lin Chuchu saw a little girl with a wound on her chest. The little girl was not very old, and she stared with frightened eyes, calling for her mother.
Lin Chuchu glanced at the steel bar stuck in the little girl's chest and couldn't help but tear up.
Looking at the doctor expectantly, the doctor took her pulse, examined other areas, and shook his head slightly at Lin Chuchu.
Lin Chuchu could no longer hold back her tears. She gently hugged the little girl and said in a choked voice.
"Mom's here, Mom's here."
The little girl died in Lin Chuchu's arms. She seemed to really believe her mother had come when she died, and she passed away peacefully.
Lin Chuchu could no longer hold back and ran out of the tent.
The feeling of powerlessness made her chest feel tight, and she slowly squatted down, panting heavily.
The little girl was so young, and she died just like that.
Her eyes were vacant as she stared at the ruins in the distance, ruins that held countless lives buried beneath them.
Lin Chuchu saw a middle-aged man holding a child and crying bitterly, but the people around him didn't even have time to comfort him.
They are still digging through the ruins, hoping to rescue as many people as possible.
She also saw a mother holding her child, overjoyed at surviving the ordeal. At that moment, they were grateful that they were still alive.
The doctor inside coldly shouted, "Are you done being sad? Hurry up and come help save people. There's no time for your sadness now."
Time is of the essence now. They don't have much time to grieve for the dead because they have to save the living and ensure that the living survive.
Lin Chuchu wiped away her tears, stood up, and walked resolutely toward the tent.
Their rescue efforts continued into the night, during which the soldiers took turns resting.
Even so, each person only slept for three or four hours, and after waking up, they continued to dig through the rubble.
Lin Chuchu couldn't hold on any longer, so she went to eat something and then found a place to lie down and sleep.
I didn't sleep well; I kept hearing desperate cries in my ears.
The voice seemed to be saying, "Why didn't you come to save me? Why are you still sleeping? If you sleep any longer, we'll die."
Lin Chuchu woke up with a start, suddenly feeling the ground shaking. She cried out in terror, "Earthquake! Get up!"
The shouts woke up many people, and those who came to their senses ran toward the open space.
Stumbling and falling, as if on a trampoline.
Lin Chuchu was running alongside when she suddenly saw the tents. She bit her lip and ran into one of the tents.
Seeing Lin Chuchu's reckless actions, the guards gritted their teeth and followed her in, one after another.
Lin Chuchu didn't know what she was thinking, but when she came to her senses, she was already holding a child in her arms and carrying another one on her back.
The ground was still shaking, and Lin Chuchu felt her body swaying uncontrollably, as if she were drunk.
Lin Chuchu gritted her teeth and ran out of the tent. The guard took the child from her back. Lin Chuchu only relaxed when she saw the others rushing in as well. She quickly carried the child to an open space.
The aftershock lasted for a full five minutes, and half of the medical tent collapsed. Fortunately, the patient was rescued in time, and there were no casualties.
Lin Chuchu glanced at the collapsed tents with lingering fear, and the place where she had slept before had also collapsed. If it weren't for the things in her dream that made her sleep restlessly, she might have been crushed to death when the aftershocks first started.
A feeling of relief washed over me.
The guard, with a stern face, pulled Lin Chuchu to a secluded spot.
“Comrade Lin, you are a researcher, you should know the importance of your position. Why did you rush into danger by yourself? You could have just called out to me and I would have gone in.”
The guard's heart pounded. Although she was also afraid of dying, her mission was to protect Lin Chuchu. If anything happened to Lin Chuchu, she would feel guilty for the rest of her life.
Lin Chuchu shook her head. "But I can't just stand by and watch them get into danger."
The guard was speechless. The Lin Chuchu she knew was calm and wise; she never expected Lin Chuchu to have such a passionate side.
"You are not allowed to act alone from now on. Also, I need to tell the commander about this."
Lin Chuchu could only nod with a bitter face.
Although she did a good thing, and given the previous warning, she might be rewarded later, but she will definitely be criticized.
Lin Chuchu was very obedient after that, doing whatever they asked. The leader took a moment to come over and gave Lin Chuchu a stern lecture, then affirmed her behavior, praised her, and that was the end of it.
