Zhou Lichen and Researcher Hou pondered for a moment, then said, "Okay, let's try a different research direction."
Everyone agreed, and while organizing the materials, Feng Tao suddenly spoke up.
"What do you think Brother Tian is doing? Is he so scared that his legs are trembling?"
Feng Tao's words were full of schadenfreude.
Researcher Hou chuckled. "Serves him right. Who told him to be such an idiot and stand someone up at their engagement party back then?"
Zhou Lichen's serious face also showed a smile, "He wants to propose to the girl, so he will definitely have to apologize. However, I hope they can succeed."
Lin Chuchu was also a little worried. What if Du Lingling's family didn't approve of the two of them being together?
Hopefully they can forgive the mistakes Researcher Tian made back then.
Just as they finished their discussion, on the other side of the train, Researcher Tian and Du Lingling were checking the prepared gift list.
There were many different kinds of things, including fine tea brought from Lin Chuchu, clothes and wine prepared for Du Lingling's parents, and pastries, making a total of eight items.
"Lingling, do you think your aunt and uncle will forgive me?"
Researcher Tian was filled with anxiety, fearing that Du Lingling's parents would not forgive him and that they would kick him out.
However, he couldn't not go. The marriage application for both of them had already been submitted, and if he didn't get married, it would be irresponsible to Du Lingling.
Du Lingling gave him a chuckle. "Now you're scared? Don't worry, my parents won't beat you to death."
Killing someone is illegal and you'll get shot; it's not worth it.
However, he couldn't escape a beating.
The train arrived at its destination amidst the researcher's trepidation.
Both families live in the same city.
We didn't know each other before, but later we wished we had never been on a blind date. Even when our families met, we would tease each other a bit.
The kind of relationship where we never see each other again.
Carrying large and small bags of gifts, they arrived at an old neighborhood.
This is where Du Ling's home is located.
Du Lingling, who had been comforting Researcher Tian, was now feeling a little uneasy, and she straightened her clothes.
"Once we get home, no matter what my parents say, you can't talk back, understand?"
Du Lingling turned around and gave Researcher Tian another instruction.
Researcher Tian quickly nodded, "Don't worry, Lingling, I'll definitely take good care of Uncle and Aunt."
The two mentally prepared themselves at the entrance of the residential area before going inside. They stood close together, clearly a couple.
This act was meant for the gossipy folks in the neighborhood, but today there seemed to be an unusually small number of elderly people in the community; I didn't see a single one all the way to the building entrance.
Du Lingling was a little puzzled. She took out her key and opened the unit door. The moment she opened the door, she heard women arguing, and it sounded like there were more than one woman arguing.
It was noisy, and seemed like there were many people there.
Du Lingling's brow twitched; she had a bad feeling.
I walked quickly towards the third floor.
Her home was on the third floor. As soon as she went up the stairs, she saw several people gathered at her door. Her mother was arguing with someone, her hands on her hips.
Du Lingling put her things on the ground and squeezed in, standing next to her mother.
"What are you doing? Why are you in my house?"
Upon seeing Du Lingling, everyone fell silent. Then someone sneered, "Who do we have here? It's the one whose engagement was broken off. If you were my daughter, I wouldn't let you come back. You're such a disgrace."
These days, people who get dumped in a marriage are always the subject of gossip and have to endure being pointed at and talked about by others.
Du Lingling couldn't stand staying at home, so she immediately chose to be transferred out when she had the opportunity.
When Du's mother saw her daughter being criticized, she immediately stood up to defend her daughter.
"What a joke! My daughter is beautiful and has plenty of suitors, unlike your daughter, who almost got divorced because she had two daughters. If your family hadn't made a scene at your son-in-law's workplace, your daughter would have gotten divorced long ago."
Mrs. Du is actually a very good person, but in the past year, she has been gossiped about by these gossipy women and has learned to argue with them.
It would be one thing if the other person talked about themselves, but to make matters worse, the other person was talking about her daughter. How could she possibly tolerate that?
Over time, she became the undisputed queen of insults in the neighborhood.
The woman opposite was hit where it hurt, her face turning pale and then red, and she was about to rush up and scratch Du's mother and Du Lingling.
“I’ll scratch you all to death if you talk about my daughter.”
Seeing that Du Lingling was about to suffer a loss, Researcher Tian quickly stepped forward and stood in front of the two of them.
"stop!"
Researcher Tian's military uniform was quite intimidating, and his loud shout made everyone stop.
The innate awe that ordinary people have for soldiers caused a group of middle-aged women to step back.
"Who are you? This is a matter between us and the Du family, it has nothing to do with you."
The woman couldn't help but say, though her attitude was much gentler than before.
Researcher Tian snorted coldly, "I'm Du Lingling's boyfriend, so her family's business is my business."
Despite his unreliable nature, he suddenly became quite serious, and at least those people didn't dare to approach him anymore.
The group of women finally left, and Du Lingling breathed a sigh of relief, turning back to ask her mother.
"Mom, what's going on? Why are they in our house? Did you and Dad offend someone?"
Du's mother glared at her. "Isn't it all because of you? Those gossipy women always bring up your affairs. I couldn't help but argue with them. Hehe, they couldn't beat me in a verbal battle, so they came back home because they can't accept defeat."
Mrs. Du is an educated woman who used to dislike gossipy women, but she never expected that it would be so satisfying to confront them.
She turned her gaze to Researcher Tian and said with a friendly expression, "Comrade, are you my daughter's colleague? What's your name?"
