The group shook their heads; they didn't know what was going on either.
The group arrived at the square, where many teams had already gathered.
Lin Chuchu and the others quickly entered the research institute's formation.
"Comrades, a magnitude 7 earthquake has struck Ontario. We have been dispatched by our superiors to provide assistance. We are about to depart now. Nearly ten thousand of our compatriots are waiting for us."
"Now, listen to my command: those who are only children, step forward!"
No one moved; everyone stared intently at their leader.
The commander frowned. "Didn't you hear me? Those who are only children, step forward."
The soldiers shouted in unison, "Commander, we are not only children!"
"Yes, take us there."
The commander was moved. He slowly walked up to a soldier and kicked him.
“Your mother came to visit the army a few days ago. You’re the only son in your family, so step forward.”
The soldier stumbled from the kick, but straightened up again. "Sir, let me go. I don't want to be a deserter."
"Yes, sir, we don't want to be deserters, I want to go too."
The soldiers shouted one by one.
The country and its people are suffering, and we cannot ignore them.
Hearing their noisy chatter, Lin Chuchu felt a pang of sadness in her heart. These were the soldiers of China, soldiers who loved their country and their people.
A surge of passion was boiling within her, and a sense of mission known as that of a soldier filled her heart.
Although the researchers hold military titles, at the very least, they are researchers.
But at this moment, they also wanted to go and help.
Lin Chuchu wasn't the only one who thought this way; the other four thought the same.
As the troops assembled and boarded the trucks, the researchers took off their lab coats and, still wearing their military uniforms, tried to climb onto the trucks.
The leader saw several researchers in their sixties and seventies squeezing onto the car just like the young people.
The leader's temples throbbed.
“Academician Zhang, Academician Lin, you can’t go with us. If something happens to you, I won’t be able to explain it to my superiors.”
Academician Zhang glared at him, "We're soldiers too, why can't we go?"
"Exactly, are you looking down on us old folks?"
“I run with them every morning, I’m in great health. If you don’t let me go, I’ll report it to my superiors.”
The leader felt frustrated, but he absolutely could not let them go to the disaster area.
He yelled at the people behind him, "Hurry up and pull the academicians away!"
