She then turned to her and asked, "Comrade Mu, Comrade Liu, Chu Chu, why don't you come to the educated youth settlement later? I'll treat you."
Mu Chen refused directly, "No need, we already asked the Party Secretary's wife to cook before we came out."
Lin Chuchu nodded, and Liu Rong naturally listened to Mu Chen and said nothing.
Back home, Lin Chuchu was exhausted. She washed her face and lay down on the bed to rest for a while.
I earned five work points today, which isn't much. The maximum work points are 10, and only able-bodied young workers can get the maximum.
Most of the women in the village could earn seven work points, while the educated youth mostly earned around four to six work points.
So you could say she's not bad.
Firewood had to be saved little by little, not only for daily use but also for winter.
However, the biggest harvest today was actually mushrooms. I'll collect more when I go into the mountains more often in the future.
On the first day of work, I was feeling a bit tired. I had originally planned to listen to a lecture, but I ended up falling asleep quickly after lying in bed.
On the third day, the whistle blew, and Lin Chuchu, despite her aching shoulders and hands, struggled to get out of bed.
It's still the same job, always bending over and it's tiring. Today, I saw that their wife treated Lin Chuchu very well, turning a blind eye to her behavior, and even secretly nudging her so that she could slack off occasionally.
People are short of money these days, and even less willing to spend money on snacks. A few pieces of candy can make the children in the family happy for several days.
While working, Lin Chuchu overheard the whispers around her. Meng Wanyin had taken the day off, and the team leader looked so sullen. She had only been there three days and was already taking leave. What a delicate young lady.
In the afternoon, I went up the mountain again. My luck was so-so today; I didn't find anything except some wild vegetables.
They hurried back; their house was finished today, their first house of their own, though it was a little small.
The house wasn't big; it looked almost square. Inside, it was divided into two small rooms. One room had a kang (heated brick bed), which was indeed small. Besides one person lying down, there was only room for a kang table.
The other room is the kitchen, with a single stove. There are some gaps next to it and against the wall, which can be used to store firewood or other miscellaneous items.
The space between the window and the bed is large enough to fit a sink and shoe rack. We can also add a bucket later for convenient access to water.
This is Lin Chuchu's house. Mu Chen and Liu Rong's house is much bigger than hers. It is rectangular, with a partition on the kang (a heated brick bed) to form two private spaces. The kitchen is also bigger than Lin Chuchu's, after all, it is for two grown men.
After seeing the house, the group couldn't wait to move in. Unfortunately, the kang (heated brick bed) needed to be heated and dried, so they could move in in a couple more days.
On Sunday, when the village was closed, Lin Chuchu took the opportunity to move.
There wasn't much stuff; we could get it over in one trip. The firewood had already been moved over, but the small kitchen couldn't hold it all, so we put it under the windowsill near the pit.
They wiped the curtains, laid a straw mat on the kang (a heated brick bed), and then put on quilts. The straw mat was exchanged with an elderly person in the village, and they also exchanged it for a large water bucket and two small water buckets with handles.
The buckets were filled that very day.
