That day, Lin Chuchu walked forward with difficulty, and in order not to slow down everyone, Xiao Lu also supported Lin Chuchu from the side.
"Everyone be careful, there's a cave ahead, it's very deep."
The people in front came back and informed those behind.
Upon hearing this, Captain Qin immediately walked over and tied one end of the rope around Lin Chuchu's waist.
"Be careful and follow me closely. If anything happens to you, I'll jump down with you."
Then, changing the subject, he grinned, revealing a set of bright white teeth, "If something happens to me, I'll cut the rope before I drag you down with me."
His voice was full of determination and seriousness.
Lin Chuchu's heart tightened. She didn't like the way these people made oaths so easily; it always felt like something bad was about to happen.
Lin Chuchu's expression was tense and serious. "We've made so many preparations, nothing will go wrong. Don't say such things again."
She doesn't want anyone to die for her, so she won't give up if she's really in danger.
Soon, they arrived at the cave entrance. The cave was very deep, and the bottom could not be seen at all. The cave entrance was about ten meters in diameter, and trees were growing below the entrance.
The trees grew horizontally, intricately intertwined, as if time and space were out of balance, seemingly reversed from the real world, indistinct, like an endless abyss.
The road was very narrow, only about one meter wide, and it was somewhat curved, hugging the opening of the cave in an arc shape.
Lin Chuchu's legs were weak, and if it weren't for Captain Qin and Xiao Lu supporting her, she would have collapsed to the ground.
On one side is a bottomless cave, and on the other side is a valley that is comparable to a cliff.
Whether a person survives or falls to one side is uncertain.
Originally, Captain Qin offered to carry her on his back, but Lin Chuchu refused no matter what. The feeling of her body dangling in the air and her feet leaving the ground was like not being able to control her own life or death, which was even more terrifying.
"Comrade Lin, don't look down at your feet, look forward."
As Xiao Lu walked carefully, he comforted Lin Chuchu.
Although Xiao Lu is younger than Lin Chuchu, he has been in the army for several years and is bolder than Lin Chuchu.
He still has the mood to comfort Lin Chuchu.
Lin Chuchu nodded. "I understand. Don't say anything, watch your step."
She didn't want Xiao Lu to be distracted by talking to her, so she gave him a word of advice.
It didn't look far, but it felt incredibly long. Finally, she reached the other side and quickly walked to a wider section of the road.
Standing among the crowd made her feel a little better, and Lin Chuchu picked up her water bottle and took a couple of sips of water.
The leader next to him was very close to the cave entrance, almost only a meter away. He leaned forward and craned his neck to look down.
Lin Chuchu didn't even dare to speak, afraid of disturbing the leader, and if she fell, there would be no way to save her.
She'll feel so guilty then.
The other person seemed to have seen enough, and then walked over and sat on the ground just like Lin Chuchu.
His gaze fell on the soldiers who were still cautiously approaching.
"Comrade Lin, do you think there might be something in this cave? Could it be related to a secret base? Is there any ancient tomb or anything like that inside?"
When ancient tombs were mentioned, Lin Chuchu thought of her last experience in one, and she was speechless, but still gave a fair assessment.
"The history of this country is very short, unlike the long history of China. I don't think there will be any large ancient tombs."
Civilization has only existed for a few hundred years. Before that, they were probably just savage tribes, and funerals were simple burials, with very few funerary objects.
As for whether it's related to a secret base, even large machinery can't reach that kind of place, so it seems unlikely.
Upon hearing this, the leader thought about it and realized it made sense. Although it was secluded enough, it was located at the intersection of several countries. If he were the superior, he wouldn't have chosen such a location.
Once all the soldiers had crossed, they weren't sure if they would be going back the same way, so they made ropes out of vines and tied them to both sides to make it safer for them to cross.
The team set off again, and on the fifth day, just as they were about to cross the mountains, they suddenly heard the sound of exploding shells, and an armed conflict broke out ahead.
The two countries' teams have started fighting. The commander is getting anxious. Could it be that the other side has discovered the entrance to the secret base? Is that why a robbery is taking place?
So, what about the Chinese soldiers? How did they fare?
The commander made some arrangements: most of the people stayed here to hide and be stationed, while he led a hundred men to find the other personnel who remained behind.
The sounds of battle seemed far away and wouldn't affect this area for the time being, so everyone looked for the best positions to attack and defend.
Lin Chuchu couldn't offer much help, nor would she offer any unsolicited advice, so she simply did whatever the soldiers did.
Taking good care of herself and not holding others backāthat's the goal she set for herself.
At night, we dared not light a fire and ate the dry rations we had prepared beforehand.
Although Lin Chuchu was worried about the leaders, she had to force herself to sleep in order to ensure she had enough energy.
The next morning, the commander and his men returned.
Lin Chuchu saw the group of soldiers dressed in foreign uniforms, more than fifty in total. Their faces were covered in camouflage, and their clothes were well concealed in the forest. If viewed from a distance, they would immediately be mistaken for people from another country.
Lin Chuchu asked curiously, "What's wrong?"
The commander slapped the soldier who stayed behind on the back of the head and said irritably.
"He led his men to create a false clue, making them think that the entrance to the secret base was in that place. Before they could even confirm it, a chaotic battle broke out."
