Chapter 3 Space

The village secretary nodded with a smile, and Mu Chen and his group built their house on the other side of Lin Chuchu's house.

Once the location was chosen, the village party secretary quickly arranged for people to build the house.

The three didn't want to stay at the educated youth settlement, so the village secretary took them home. Their family consisted of only the two elderly people; their son worked outside as a truck driver, and their daughter was married and didn't come back often.

I received an advance on a month's worth of food from the village; it consisted mostly of coarse grains, along with some potatoes, corn, and other vegetables.

It's summer now, and the work in the fields involves weeding and clearing land.

After finishing her meal and saying goodbye to the hospitable village secretary's wife, Lin Chuchu returned to her room.

The village gave them a day off tomorrow; they need to go to the county to buy daily necessities.

She wanted to see what was inside the package.

There are two sets of bedding, two sets of single-layer shirts, two sets of single-layer trousers, and two sets of single-layer shoes, one pair of cotton-padded shirts, cotton-padded trousers, and cotton-padded shoes, and one pair of gloves.

A kettle, a teacup, some brown sugar and fruit candy, a bottle of malted milk powder, 5 jin of grain coupons, half a jin of meat coupons, and three feet of cloth coupons.

Her decision to go to the countryside was too hasty. The bedding was from home, the cotton-padded clothes and trousers were her mother's, the cotton-padded shoes were a bit too big and should have been Aunt Zheng's, and the rest of the things should have been from Uncle Zheng's house.

Besides the things, there was also money, 823 yuan. As long as she didn't squander it, it would be enough for her to live on for several years.

However, she couldn't just sit around and live off her savings, and she remembered something: the college entrance examination would be reinstated two years later, and she wanted to take it.

Having not studied for so long, she didn't know if she could still pass the exam, but she wanted to give it a try; she didn't want to stay in the village for the rest of her life.

She needs to find junior high and high school textbooks, and also figure out how to make money.

Even if she gets a stipend when she goes to university, it won't be enough money, and she also wants to buy a house.

Lin Chuchu frowned, took out the paper she had brought and wrote down what she needed. She would start cooking herself; there were too many things she needed to prepare herself.

Tomorrow I'll ask the Party Secretary's wife if we can exchange some oil and salt. We're short of everything since we just arrived here. If we can exchange them in the village, we'll do so.

Oh, and I also need to write a letter to Uncle Zheng tomorrow.

As I was writing, I looked up and suddenly saw something in front of me. In my previous life, when I was a ghost, I had also read novels.

Is this space?

The space was gray and empty. Lin Chuchu couldn't contain her excitement. She stared at the pen in her hand and silently recited, "Put it away."

The pen in his hand disappeared, and a thumbnail appeared on the left side of the space, showing the shape of a pen with the quantity 1 written on it.

Great! With this, I can put my important items inside.

Lin Chuchu put all the money, receipts, certificates of educated youth, and other items into the box.

After repeatedly opening and closing the container several times, I finally drifted off to sleep.

The next day, they got up very early because oxcarts were only available in the morning.

The bus ride is free; all the new educated youth are going to the county today.

The group greeted each other and chatted and laughed along the way. The old man driving the cart shook his head with a smile, saying that the novelty only lasted a few days, and that these educated youths would lose their enthusiasm after a while.

When we arrived in the county town, it wasn't very prosperous. There were just a few high-rise buildings, and most of the rest were large tile-roofed houses.

Before Meng Wanyin could speak, Lin Chuchu bid farewell to everyone and turned to leave.

She didn't want to go with them.

Meng Wanyin's breath hitched, and a look of disgust flashed in her eyes, but she quickly concealed it and turned to look at Mu Chen gently.

"Mu, are you coming to the supply and marketing cooperative with us?"

Mu Chen shook his head. "No need, we have other things to do."

With that, she pulled Liu Rong away, leaving only Lu Zhengrong, Wang Zhaodi, and Meng Wanyin, whose face was ashen.

Lin Chuchu ignored the people behind her, slowed down, and kept looking left and right.

The streets were clean, and the people passing by were in a hurry, dressed in green, blue, and black. Some young women wore white shirts or long skirts.

It lacked the prosperity she witnessed in later generations, but possessed a tranquility.

Lin Chuchu went to the post office first, took out the letter, and mailed it out.

Seeing the stamps and envelopes on the side, she bought some as well.

She had thought it over. It wasn't convenient to do anything right now, and she didn't have a formal job, so she might as well submit articles to the newspaper first.

After leaving the post office, Lin Chuchu went to the newsstand. There were only two kinds of newspapers: People's Daily and provincial newspapers. The mailing address was at the bottom of the newspaper.

The manuscript paper, fountain pen, and ink cost her a total of 9 yuan.

After buying everything, I found a secluded spot to store it in my spatial storage before going to a state-run restaurant to buy some steamed buns, mantou, and flower rolls.

She kept two steamed buns to eat, and put the rest into her spatial storage.

Upon arriving at the supply and marketing cooperative, Lin Chuchu bought two basins, needles and thread, a jar of fruit, fruit candy, two baskets, towels, toothpaste, toothbrush, toothbrush cup, toilet paper, and various kitchen utensils.

These things had to be displayed openly, so she had no choice but to carry them back.

The old man who was driving the carriage was waiting there, and Lin Chuchu whispered something to him.

"Grandpa Chen, can I leave my things here with you for now? I want to go to the scrap metal recycling station."

Grandpa Chen nodded with a smile, "Go ahead, go ahead, there's still some time before we leave, no need to rush."

Lin Chuchu quickly thanked her, took out a handful of fruit candies from her pocket, and then took out a steamed bun.

"Grandpa Chen, here you go. Take the candy back for your grandson."

After saying that, Lin Chuchu ran away.

"Oh, this girl."

He smiled and shook his head, broke the steamed bun in half, and didn't eat a single piece of candy.

The recycling station wasn't far away, and she hoped to find some junior high and high school textbooks.

Sure enough, the recycling station still had some stuff at this time; they even had some old newspapers. Thinking about the money I had just spent on newspapers, I clicked my tongue in regret and decided I couldn't buy those newspapers anymore.
