Chapter 39 Both Remarry

No matter how much Lin Chuchu tried to persuade her, her mother was still worried and even stopped making clothes for others.

Those families were all bad, so I immediately wrote an anonymous letter to report them.

At this time, there were no Red Guards; only people from the neighborhood committee came to find out what was going on.

Even so, it startled my mother and the others.

After all, we all came from that turbulent era, and we would feel intimidated by these people from the bottom of our hearts.

Fortunately, nothing serious happened. After inquiring, it was discovered that they hadn't done anything illegal or disorderly, and they weren't capitalists. They were just politely reminding someone to make clothes, and then they left.

After seeing the person off, her legs were still a little weak. Turning back to Lin Chuchu, she muttered, "Things are really different now than before."

Yes, things are different now. The country has emerged from darkness and entered the light.

Lin Chuchu was so certain because she had seen some people selling fruit and cakes with baskets at the train station last time.

Both Lin Chuchu and Mu Chen were busy with work, often working until late at night. Lin Chuchu didn't plan to give up her translation work at the newspaper, hoping to earn as much as possible during this time.

Mu Chen went to see his comrades, so Lin Chuchu stayed at her maternal grandmother's house. She wanted to help her mother make clothes, but her mother wouldn't allow it and even told her to go back to her studies.

In the evening, Dad came home, and Mom told him about what happened that day.

He frowned. "From now on, you can do whatever you want without worry. As long as you don't do it too blatantly, no one will investigate."

He works in a government department, so he's naturally the first to know if anything happens at the higher-ups.

"Oh, by the way, could you take some canned eggs with you tonight?"

His colleague's mother injured her leg and was rescued by a woman. If it weren't for the kind person, his colleague's mother would have been in danger.

My colleague's mother is over sixty years old this year. She has good legs and feet and usually enjoys walking around the streets and alleys.

Today, when I went to the supply and marketing cooperative, there were a lot of people. I don't know who bumped into me, but I fell down and couldn't get up for a long time.

No one around dared to step forward to help, for fear of taking responsibility. In the end, it was a woman with a child who helped the person up and took her to the hospital.

Mom quickly agreed, saying that they, as colleagues' family members, should also go and visit.

The mother wanted to take Lin Chuchu with her, but Lin Chuchu refused to move, so the mother went alone.

When we got back, my mother exclaimed that the old lady had met a kind person, saying that the woman had been busy taking care of the old lady for half a day.

Lin Chuchu didn't pay attention at first, but when she heard her mother say that the woman's surname was Meng, her heart skipped a beat.

"Mom, the woman you're talking about isn't named Meng Wanyin, is she?"

The mother was somewhat surprised. "How did you know? Do you know her?"

Lin Chuchu was speechless, wondering what Meng Wanyin was up to.

"Is Dad's colleague single?"

Upon hearing this, Mom immediately understood. "You're not saying that Meng Wanyin is after the old lady's son, are you? That can't be right. The old lady's son is over forty years old and has a son in high school..."

As Mom muttered to herself, in an instant, both Mom and Grandma understood.

Displeasure unconsciously surfaced on his face.

"Who is Meng Wanyin? Is she divorced or is her boyfriend dead?"

Lin Chuchu revealed Meng Wanyin's situation, including that her boyfriend was her classmate and that they had a child together.

"No way, after going to the countryside, she got together with the director of the meat processing plant... How much does she like father-type men? She's so old, she could have been her grandfather before."

The mother frowned. "Should we tell the old lady about this?"

Once you're entangled with a girl like that, you're probably not going to be able to shake her off.

Lin Chuchu said, "Mom, you could also subtly suggest that I think both of them might have problems."

Isn't there a problem? When Dad's colleague came home, he saw a beautiful woman in the house. The woman was often shy and would flirt with him from time to time. The man was almost bewitched.

A few days later, people saw the two of them going in and out together intimately. Later, they were caught in the act, and the man even tried to argue that he had drunk too much.

The two later got married, and Meng Wanyin moved into the man's house with her child. It hadn't been long yet, so she hadn't given herself away, and even the man's child had a good impression of her.

When Lin Chuchu found out, she felt extremely disgusted. "What about her ex-boyfriend? Isn't that bigamy?"

"I heard that Meng Wanyin and her ex-husband divorced a long time ago."

The mother kept rambling on.

Ever since she learned who Meng Wanyin was, she had refused to go to the old lady's house; this was all she had heard about.

She also reminded her father to stay away from his colleagues in the future.

Lin Chuchu wasn't someone who couldn't stand to see others do well. She always felt that if Meng Wanyin found out that Mu Chen was the son of her boyfriend's boss, she would cause trouble.

After returning home, Lin Chuchu and Mu Chen whispered to each other, wondering if they could find a way to let people know Meng Wanyin's true colors.

Before she could figure out what to do, Lin Chuchu started school. On her first day of school, she received wedding candy from a classmate.

The person she married was Meng Wanyin's ex-husband.

Lin Chuchu fiddled with a few pieces of candy in her hand, her face expressionless, while the classmate sitting next to her put a piece of candy into her mouth.

It's a fruit candy, and it tastes good.

Seeing that Lin Chuchu wasn't eating, she asked curiously, "What's wrong?"

What was Lin Chuchu supposed to say? "That she didn't want to eat because she felt uncomfortable with the two of them?"

Lin Chuchu pushed the candy towards her, "You eat it. My tooth has been hurting these past few days, and the doctor won't let me eat candy."

Lin Chuchu watched as she took it, then glanced at Meng Wanyin's ex-husband with a complicated expression. Meng Wanyin had married someone of good standing, so this man must have married someone from a good family, right?
