Chapter 81 You can always trust your comrades, Grandpa is critically ill

Lin Chuchu did not see the captain until she returned to China.

After getting off the plane, Lin Chuchu saw several people in military uniforms.

Her eyelids twitched; it was the first time she had ever felt so flustered in front of soldiers.

Several soldiers saluted Lin Chuchu. "Comrade Lin, welcome back. Please come with us to hand over the mission first."

Lin Chuchu opened her mouth, wanting to ask several times, but ultimately didn't.

Sitting in the car, he glanced at the two people next to him out of the corner of his eye, but they showed no intention of talking to him.

Soon, the car arrived at its destination. After getting out of the car, Lin Chuchu stopped the other person.

"Mu... Captain, is he healed?"

She wanted to ask Mu Chen, but didn't dare to ask, so she changed the subject and asked the special forces captain instead.

The soldier in front of her nodded. "You're much better now. As for other things, I can't say. Comrade Lin Chuchu, please go in. The commanders are waiting for you."

The soldier knew what Lin Chuchu wanted to ask, and directly said that he couldn't say.

It's both a rule and a confidentiality agreement.

Lin Chuchu unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief. Although she didn't know the specifics, things hadn't reached the worst point yet.

Lin Chuchu straightened her clothes before entering the room.

The room was dark, and the other person was someone Lin Chuchu didn't recognize.

Lin Chuchu hesitated for a moment, then finally said, "Report!"

The other person slowly turned around, a gentle smile appearing on their face.

"You must be Comrade Lin. I'm the person you're in contact with. There's paper and a pen on the table. Please write down what you know."

His words were gentle, yet carried an undeniable authority.

"How can I trust you?"

The journey was extremely dangerous, with several assassination attempts, gunfights, betrayals by the contact, and Mu Chen on the battlefield.

Everything seemed veiled, something she couldn't understand or see clearly.

Despite being questioned like this, the other person wasn't annoyed. "Comrade Lin can always trust your comrades. As for me... I'm the father of the special operations team leader. Is that enough for you to produce something?"

The captain's father?

Lin Chuchu looked at him with a puzzled expression. There was indeed a resemblance between him and the captain in his features. Seeing that he didn't look sad at all, it seemed that the captain was really alright.

Lin Chuchu nodded. "I'm so sorry, Chief. I didn't mean to target you."

"It's alright, your caution is commendable."

Lin Chuchu no longer hesitated, sat down, picked up her pen, and began to record the ten sheets of paper.

She wrote quickly and without hesitation, as if she were copying from a book.

The leader flipped through the papers one by one. When he saw the names of more than twenty people, a look of surprise flashed in his eyes. He remained silent for a long time before finally putting the papers away.

He said gently to Lin Chuchu, "Thank you for your help, Comrade Lin. There will be no missions for the time being, so Comrade Chuchu can get some rest."

These words meant that Lin Chuchu could leave.

Lin Chuchu stood up abruptly and asked anxiously, "Commander, I want to ask..."

The leader looked at her indifferently, a slight smile playing on his lips, but his eyes held a hint of rejection.

Lin Chuchu bit her lip. She knew that the commander didn't want her to ask, but... she and Mu Chen were husband and wife. Didn't she even have the basic right to know?

Even just a little bit of information would be helpful.

She slumped back into her seat, unable to ask.

A hint of satisfaction flashed in the commander's eyes. "You may leave. Don't ask about things you shouldn't know, but remember my words."

Lin Chuchu walked out of the room in a daze, her mind still replaying the leader's last words.

Remember his words? What words?

She recalled every word the commander had said to her when they met.

"You must be Comrade Lin Chuchu..."

"Comrade Lin can always trust your comrades..."

Trust your comrades?

Lin Chuchu's spirits lifted. Did the commander mean that Mu Chen hadn't betrayed the country? What mission was he on?

Don't ask what you shouldn't know; that means don't let her ask around. There are still enemies in China, and asking questions could be dangerous.

Lin Chuchu bit her lip. Okay, she wouldn't ask anymore. She wouldn't ask anything. She just hoped that Mu Chen would be safe and sound.

Lin Chuchu shook off her earlier dejection and quickened her pace to hurry back.

When she arrived at the gate of her old home, the gate was tightly closed, and the neighbors around her avoided Lin Chuchu as if she were a plague.

Lin Chuchu had a bad feeling.

Pushing open the door abruptly, Lin Chuchu suddenly heard crying; it was Mu's mother and grandmother.

Lin Chuchu hurried into the room and saw her grandfather lying on the bed, his face pale and his eyes staring blankly at the ceiling.

Grandma and Mu's mother sat beside him, heads bowed, weeping.

Even the two children were wiping away tears.

Lin Chuchu's heart tightened. "Mom, what's wrong with Grandpa? Why are you crying?"

When Mu's mother saw Lin Chuchu, her eyes lit up immediately. She quickly walked up to Lin Chuchu and took her hand.

Lin Chuchu's hand was gripped so tightly it hurt.

"Chuchu, a lot of police came yesterday and searched the house thoroughly, including yours. They... they said Mu Chen betrayed the country. Tell me, this isn't true, is it?"

Mu's mother looked at Lin Chuchu with a hoarse voice and expectant eyes.

Lin Chuchu pursed her lips tightly and remained silent. She dared not tell her family that if the enemy discovered anything amiss, her family would be in danger.

Seeing that she didn't speak, Mu's mother cried even harder.

"How could Mu Chen be so stupid? He's a college student, about to graduate, and will be a policeman in the future. How could he suddenly betray his country?"

Mother Mu seemed to have lost her soul, talking to herself.
